OVERVIEW

Desktop BBE for guitarists, bassists and keyboard players.

The BBE 282i Sonic Maximizer is a two channel signal processor that will benefit any recording or sound reproduction system. Whether you purchased the Sonic Maximizer for your home studio, P.A., DJ system, or instrument rack, you will find the Sonic Maximizer’s rugged construction and careful electronic design a welcome addition to your sonic arsenal.

The 282iR featuresfeatures unbalanced ¼” phone connectors making it ideal for interfacing with guitar, bass or keyboards.

The 282’s smaller chassis makes it ideal for DJ systems, DAW-based recording environments and space challenged live systems, as well as desktop applications, where space is at a premium and there’ s no 19 rack space available. However, the 282 series delivers exactly the same performance as BBE’s world renowned rack-mounted Sonic Maximizer products.

BBE High Definition Sound compensates for phase and amplitude distortion, restoring the brilliance and clarity of the original content material. The BBE High Definition Sound process begins by applying a linear phase shift across the full frequency range of the signal, which allows the speaker system to reproduce the transients and harmonics in the correct order. The BBE process then compensates for speaker amplitude distortion by progressively boosting lower and higher frequencies, and doing so within the context of the phase correction process. This efficiently creates a fuller, richer sound without excess equalization.

If you are reading this, you know what they do. I had one high end full rack space BBE just for my Live stereo main speaker system then decided I wanted to have the same sonic quality for my monitors but was one rack space short. I bought two of these. One for stereo mains and one for 2 channel monitor mix. There is a little quality loss in comparison to any of the full rack versions but not near enough for most to tell. A real good solution to conserve rack space and cover both mains and monitor mixes on a budget. Plug in, Turn on, Set knobs to 12 o'clock, Engage BBE, and forget it.

I've used 282IQ for a few applications and so far haven't hit on any that really sell me. Admittedly it could be in the said applications - so far I've tried Yamaha S90XS, Korg X50, and media play through to Roland KC 350 and JBL monitor/PA. Possibly because all my speaker use so far is powered?

I've still more homework to do with the device and will re-review if I hit on success.

Package is neat, all inclusive and arrived quickly, but I didn't get any magic from it when used with keys or recorded tracks.

It is always nice to have a BBE sonic maximizer in the signal chain. Guitar and keyboard practice are much more enjoyable, and it always makes a PA sound much better. This is a fast, easy, reliable fix for blah sound.

Comments about BBE 282iQ Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Unbalanced 1\\4" Connections:

An inexpensive fix for inexpensive sound systems, or deteriorated tape recordings, and other types of problems. The two channels can be looped back from left to right to double the process in mono applications or be used in standard stereo. The high low boost with phase correction can give a real nice sound to a over done mid range sound. a metal box well constructed, however the two channels are sharing the same control knobs, over all it works well. I would not use it for every sound application, but I do like what it can do.

I've been using Sonic Maximizers on all of my gear for years(stereo and guitar) and they just simply open up your sound to a point where it's more intelligible. BBE users have heard this B4, it's like taking a pillow away from the front of your speakers! The 282iq has ganged stereo outs so I use it on my Fender Blues Deluxe and Fender Mustang III simultaneously for massive tone. Use sparingly for huge results!

I bought 2 of these, one with XLR and one with 1/4 inch unbalanced inputs. They do make a difference both with vocal clarity and with my Acoustic electric Ibanez. Be careful not to turn up the 2 controls past 12 o'clock positions.

Every decibel counts when you are recording. This gives you the extra volume and tone without spending a lot. I don't think this is described as a preamp but it might as well be. I use this in conjunction with Voicelive Play, MXL condenser mic and stand alone phantom power. This setup is recorded with a Zoom R16. Mastered with Cubase and monitored with Yamaha monitors and Shure sh440 headphone monitors. For forty this little unit is hard to beat. As always, Musician's Friend was awesome.

My live sound setup includes 2 Kustom PA-112S's and 2 Kustom PA-50's, plus my new Yamaha MG124-cx mixer from Musician's Friend. This little box made a big difference in the sound by smoothing out the highs and, to my ear at least, making the bass more "velvet-y". (I do standards and light rock.) It works great!

                    You need this.
You might not think so, but you do.
From Home audio to recording, to the guitar effects chain, this thing does its magic.
Lows become richer, highs sparkle, without making concessions
Operation is similar to simple bass and treble controls, with no technical layers to deal with. Anyone can use it to great effect.
It is surprisingly heavy in build. It might withstand being used to bludgeon stage divers if necessary.
