OVERVIEW

Desktop BBE for your studio.

The BBE 282i Sonic Maximizer is a two channel signal processor that will benefit any recording or sound reproduction system. Whether you purchased the Sonic Maximizer for your home studio, P.A., DJ system, or instrument rack, you will find the Sonic Maximizer’s rugged construction and careful electronic design a welcome addition to your sonic arsenal.

The 282iR features RCA and 3.5mm connections which makes it suitable for use in DJ systems where RCA interfacing is used, or in desktop playback systems.

The 282’s smaller chassis makes it ideal for DJ systems, DAW-based recording environments and space challenged live systems, as well as desktop applications, where space is at a premium and there’ s no 19 rack space available. However, the 282 series delivers exactly the same performance as BBE’s world renowned rack-mounted Sonic Maximizer products.

BBE High Definition Sound compensates for phase and amplitude distortion, restoring the brilliance and clarity of the original content material. The BBE High Definition Sound process begins by applying a linear phase shift across the full frequency range of the signal, which allows the speaker system to reproduce the transients and harmonics in the correct order. The BBE process then compensates for speaker amplitude distortion by progressively boosting lower and higher frequencies, and doing so within the context of the phase correction process. This efficiently creates a fuller, richer sound without excess equalization.

Comments about BBE 282iR Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Unbalanced RCA and 3.5mm Connections:

Great little product. Was frankly skeptical after reading the reviews of people who expected some huge, panoramic change in the sound quality, but gave it a go and am very pleased with it. The effect on the net sound is, indeed, subtle, and in my case, the range settings on the controls didn't act like traditional tone controls (as in, "turn it to the right an you get more something"). Again, subtlety in action. So I went with close to midrange settings and left it alone....I use mine in a serial application with my EQ for the home stereo...and I hear things I haven't heard before. Still can't exactly pin down what those things are...it's not "more bass" or "more presence", it's a more defined separation of tones. It does sound crisper, if that's an acceptable audiophile term for what otherwise be known as simply "magic".

With RCA and minijack inputs, this unit can also be adapted to working with instrument cables with appropriate adapters, and I plan to experiment with that, if I can ever decide to unplug from the stereo.

My only suggestion for improvement is to move the power switch to the front panel. My AC power to it is not switched, and the adapter is buried behind everything...just a thought for next year's model.

All in all, a very happy surprise, and the super deal promotion with low price didn't hurt, either.

Comments about BBE 282iR Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Unbalanced RCA and 3.5mm Connections:

I do some sound work for non-profit organizations. I get paid nothing, so I can't afford to lay out a lot of cash for the sound system which I tote around. I've been running a SoundCraft, Gig Rack, powered mixer into a split Yak Stack. The Yak Stack is supposed to be a single column, designed for "square dance" callers. I've found it sounds pretty good split in half; as the left and right column for my P.A. Now, it sounds even better. The Sonic Maximizer (adjusted well) makes the system reveal a lot more detail in the sound. I would say it makes the sound more vivid, more 3 dimensional, and less muddy. I bought the Sonic Maximizer at a SDOTD price, and it sounds like I somehow got much better speakers for a very good deal. I still don't get the bass which I'd like to out of these column speakers, but they are a rather old technology, so I feel like I'm doing pretty well. The Sonic Maximizer did improve the bass, somewhat. With the columns I'm using, it would not be fair to expect more. Perhaps one day, I'll run across a cheap, powered sub-woofer. Then, my cheap little system will "kick!"

It really didn't do what I bought it to do. Long story. So, figuring there was nothing to lose, I chewed up less than 30 seconds of my day and connected this little black box to my desktop stereo. The one I THOUGHT had good sound. I was wrong. How long had all those sounds been hiding inside my music? Where did that warm, round bass come from? And what's with that crispy sharp top end?

            Yep. I'm a believer.

Been using BBE Sonic Maximizers in both hardware rack gear (guitar and digital drumkit rigs) and sofrware plugins for my DAWs when I first discovered them for over 10 years now.
This 282iR is being used for my PC audio. And at the sale price,I bought two.( gave one as a gift to two new fans)
I like the description " Like lifting a blanket off your speakers"

I actually stuck this behind my 65" flat screen to run my soundbar audio through. Made everything sound so much better. I've run BBE in between my audio sources and a Bose Acoustimass system and it makes the Bose audio sound better. I recommend running BBE processors between any audio source and speaker. Makes it all sound so much crisper and fuller.
