Desktop BBE for your studio.

The BBE 282i Sonic Maximizer is a two channel signal processor that will benefit any recording or sound reproduction system. Whether you purchased the Sonic Maximizer for your home studio, P.A., DJ system, or instrument rack, you will find the Sonic Maximizer’s rugged construction and careful electronic design a welcome addition to your sonic arsenal.

The 282iR features RCA and 3.5mm connections which makes it suitable for use in DJ systems where RCA interfacing is used, or in desktop playback systems.

The 282’s smaller chassis makes it ideal for DJ systems, DAW-based recording environments and space challenged live systems, as well as desktop applications, where space is at a premium and there’ s no 19 rack space available. However, the 282 series delivers exactly the same performance as BBE’s world renowned rack-mounted Sonic Maximizer products.

BBE High Definition Sound compensates for phase and amplitude distortion, restoring the brilliance and clarity of the original content material. The BBE High Definition Sound process begins by applying a linear phase shift across the full frequency range of the signal, which allows the speaker system to reproduce the transients and harmonics in the correct order. The BBE process then compensates for speaker amplitude distortion by progressively boosting lower and higher frequencies, and doing so within the context of the phase correction process. This efficiently creates a fuller, richer sound without excess equalization.

Comments about BBE 282iR Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Unbalanced RCA and 3.5mm Connections:

BBE's claims about the Sonic Maximizer Series are not a bit exaggerated, even for this entry-level model. (Its big brothers use the same technology to benefit professional recording engineers.) For restoring brilliance and accuracy to any recording, old or new, this may be the magical, instantaneous "silver bullet" for achieving better sound in just about any listening environment. The Maximizer is much more than simply an EQ; it actually clarifies the sound across the musical spectrum, rather than simply increasing or decreasing the volume in a specific tonal range. With a simple press of a button, the highs become startlingly crisp and brilliant, and the bass notes become punchy and clear, not "muddy." The clearer bass allows the midranges (where most of the music occurs) to come through unfettered and clean, so that every nuance of the vocals and instruments may be heard and appreciated. (By the way, the Sonic Maximizer also noticeably improves the sound of amplified instruments! It would be a great enhancement for either performance or recording.) The one time I might recommend bypassing the Max is when one is listening critically for flaws in a recording; it corrects so well for those flaws that they are not likely to be noticed. However, if you simply want to hear your favorite music as it was intended to be heard, this product delivers on that promise!

Comments about BBE 282iR Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Unbalanced RCA and 3.5mm Connections:

Having experimented with several different audio setups, I find the BBE most suited to improving sub optimal playback situations. While having a minimal effect on my class A tube setup in the den, it works wonders on my push/pull amp in my workspace, bringing a brilliance to dull highs without making them thin or screechy.

Comments about BBE 282iR Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Unbalanced RCA and 3.5mm Connections:

I bought a Blackstar HT-5R amp (see my review) and it's sound needed something more. I use BBE Sonic M's with my other gear and tried it through the Blackstar's effects loop. Now the Blackstar sounds great!
Trouble is, the Blackstar is supposed to be a "grab 'n go" amp and I don't want to bring a rack to practices or gigs. Then I saw this desktop model on Musicians Friend's Black Friday list and velcro'd it to the back of the Blackstar (see pics). My Fender Blues Jr amp cover fits over it just great and the amp sounds awesome, thanks to my BBE Desktop 282iR.

Item works as it should. The over-all size is smaller than advertised and the knobs are different than what it shows on the box but it works. It works great for home music systems. Not so great on individual instruments if you try and record them through this unit.
This would work great for a DJ setup.

Comments about BBE 282iR Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Unbalanced RCA and 3.5mm Connections:

Spec lists this a around 12" by 10" x 2". I e-mailed BBE before I bought to ask about this and they were a bit embarrassed at the error. It is more like 6" x 5-3/4" x 1-1/2". My only complaint, and it is minor, is that it did not come with the knobs as pictured but instead with the knobs that I assume were left over from the old 264 model (smaller, black with a white indicator line).
