Pro connections for a desktop BBE.

The BBE 282i Sonic Maximizer is a two-channel signal processor that will benefit any recording or sound reproduction system. Whether you purchased the Sonic Maximizer for your home studio, PA, DJ system, or instrument rack, you will find the Sonic Maximizer’s rugged construction and careful electronic design a welcome addition to your sonic arsenal.

The 282iX features XLR balanced input and outputs, and +23dB of output headroom. Perfect for studio, or professional live sound applications. Its smaller chassis makes it ideal for DJ systems, DAW-based recording environments and space-challenged live systems, as well as desktop applications, where space is at a premium and there’ s no 19-rack space available. However, the 282 series delivers exactly the same performance as BBE’s world-renowned rack-mounted Sonic Maximizer products.

BBE High Definition Sound compensates for phase and amplitude distortion, restoring the brilliance and clarity of the original content material. The BBE High Definition Sound process begins by applying a linear phase shift across the full-frequency range of the signal, which allows the speaker system to reproduce the transients and harmonics in the correct order. The BBE process then compensates for speaker amplitude distortion by progressively boosting lower and higher frequencies, and doing so within the context of the phase correction process. This efficiently creates a fuller, richer sound without excess equalization.

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

This can really give life to any source that sounds a bit dull. On vocals after a preamp it's great. It makes an ordinary mic sound full and rich. For the price it cant be beat.

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

great little tool. does everything the larger rack mounted models do. I am out of rack space..so this works out just fine. I would buy it again...made this mix standout better with more clarity.

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

      My set up: Mac>Apogee Duet 2>BBE 282ix>Stereo

First, I'm not a professional musician, DJ (hang 'em all), or programmer. I'm an amateur guitarist and music enthusiast. I didn't want to add an eq to my signal chain or spend a lot of money.

I was looking at the 882i. It's way more expensive; so that scared me off. And I'm glad it did. The 282ix's controls are much simpler. I would've hated having to make adjustments to both channels opposed to the one set of controls on the 282ix.

Love the simple on/off button. Great for comparison. This thing is very quiet. A sign of quality for sure. But I really love the dynamics it (not adds, but) lets loose. Night and day difference!

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

I bought this unit to replace a older full width model BBE that only had the 1/4 plugs and not the balanced XLR's this unit has. Wow, what a difference. This unit really punches the low end out alot more then the older unit did as well as giving the system a large volume boost. I guess the only flaw I can think of is I wish it came with removeable flanges for rack mounting. I ended up using double stick foam tape to sanwich it in between other rack mounted components.

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

Four stars only because I can't ACTUALLY rate this, as I haven't actually used it. I bought it as a gift for a friend.

When it arrived, it had basic plastic knobs. This may not be an issue for you, but since this is a gift for a friend I wanted it to have the same look as other BBE gear.

I emailed BBE support, and they sent new knobs right away. Unfortunately one of the replacement knobs is missing an insert, so I can't use it... But I have contacted them again and hopefully they will send me the insert. Altogether great customer service by BBE so far, and as long as I receive the knob insert before christmas (when I am giving the maximizer to my friend) I will not hesitate to buy other BBE products.
