OVERVIEW

The BBE 282i Sonic Maximizer is a two-channel signal processor that will benefit any recording or sound reproduction system. Whether you purchased the Sonic Maximizer for your home studio, PA, DJ system, or instrument rack, you will find the Sonic Maximizer’s rugged construction and careful electronic design a welcome addition to your sonic arsenal.

The 282iX features XLR balanced input and outputs, and +23dB of output headroom. Perfect for studio, or professional live sound applications. Its smaller chassis makes it ideal for DJ systems, DAW-based recording environments and space-challenged live systems, as well as desktop applications, where space is at a premium and there’ s no 19-rack space available. However, the 282 series delivers exactly the same performance as BBE’s world-renowned rack-mounted Sonic Maximizer products.

BBE High Definition Sound compensates for phase and amplitude distortion, restoring the brilliance and clarity of the original content material. The BBE High Definition Sound process begins by applying a linear phase shift across the full-frequency range of the signal, which allows the speaker system to reproduce the transients and harmonics in the correct order. The BBE process then compensates for speaker amplitude distortion by progressively boosting lower and higher frequencies, and doing so within the context of the phase correction process. This efficiently creates a fuller, richer sound without excess equalization.

Pro connections for a desktop BBE.

I bought this unit to replace a older full width model BBE that only had the 1/4 plugs and not the balanced XLR's this unit has. Wow, what a difference. This unit really punches the low end out alot more then the older unit did as well as giving the system a large volume boost. I guess the only flaw I can think of is I wish it came with removeable flanges for rack mounting. I ended up using double stick foam tape to sanwich it in between other rack mounted components.

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

I am a mobile DJ who purchased the BBE 282iX to use at events (weddings, holiday, birthday, and cocktail parties) in small to mid-size venues to add a simple boost to my sound system (SRM 450s or K12) without having to setup my subwoofer(s). I own and have used the 482 and 882 in the past, and I had confidence this very compact, easy to setup and use device would do the trick (it helped that it was on sale). Simply put: the control knobs "processed" the sound of my lows and highs sufficiently. I appreciate the construction is metal and not plastic. I prefer standard IEC power cables for several reasons, but I'm managing with the bulkier DC power supply, otherwise this is a 5 star product. If you are familiar with BBE and favor their products, I believe you will enjoy this little boost box.

Love the sound , BBE enhances all my music projects , running my recordings thru a BBE and then checkin it on a RTA gives me such a better quality of recordings. My home theater sound is so much better thru a BBE all my keyboards are run thru BBE's and vocals not sure why anybody would not use them

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

The great BBE Sonic Maximizer processor, in miniature. I have been using BBE maximizers for over 20 years. This model represents an incredible value, especially if you catch it on sale! The XLR model with the 15V AC supply has the most headroom for professional applications. The other models excel as channel inserts (1/4") or for home studio (1/8" / RCA).

You will find negative opinions about BBE Sonic Maximizers, mainly from mis-application (not for guitar amps) or over-application (the knobs go all the way, but YOU shouldn't).

The LO Contour is perfect for making up bass at low volume, otherwise the 12 o'clock position is just right. The Process control is just right at 1-2 o'clock, more or less depending on the system. I find with modern active speakers that noon on both is good. The processor is time- and phase- aligning the frequency spectrum to compensate for the shortcomings of all but the highest quality sound systems. If have spent $20K plus on amps and speakers, congrats: you don't need this box. For everyone else, this is the single most cost-effective way to improve your system!

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

A source of the BBE sonic maximizer sound with professional balanced XLR in & out, in stereo, for very little money. How can you go wrong?! Unlike the rack units, there are no level meters and both channels share a single pair of ganged controls. But if you're doing mono source or stereo bus processing, you don't need separate controls. The only frustration of the sonic maximizers is the fixed 5kHz and 50Hz process/boost frequencies. Some other exciters allow frequency adjustment.

Loud pops start-up, power on. Be careful. Turn Amps on last ...and careful with the power cord to the BBE.

I use the 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer after my BOSS ME-80 Guitar processor through my Focusrite iTrack Dock.
It significantly improve the low end strings and took the edge off of the high strings on my acoustic guitar in a way that no EQ setting could do. My Jazz guitar took on a whole new depth of dimension that I did not expect.
The 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer is a "Phase EQ" for Low and High frequency bands that add clarity without EQ the EQ "Combing" effect.
It is an EQ for Time rather than frequencies and is truly amazing!
