OVERVIEW

Pro connections for a desktop BBE.

The BBE 282i Sonic Maximizer is a two-channel signal processor that will benefit any recording or sound reproduction system. Whether you purchased the Sonic Maximizer for your home studio, PA, DJ system, or instrument rack, you will find the Sonic Maximizer' rugged construction and careful electronic design a welcome addition to your sonic arsenal.

The 282iX features XLR balanced input and outputs, and +23dB of output headroom. Perfect for studio, or professional live sound applications. Its smaller chassis makes it ideal for DJ systems, DAW-based recording environments and space-challenged live systems, as well as desktop applications, where space is at a premium and there™ s no 19-rack space available. However, the 282 series delivers exactly the same performance as BBE' world-renowned rack-mounted Sonic Maximizer products.

BBE High Definition Sound compensates for phase and amplitude distortion, restoring the brilliance and clarity of the original content material. The BBE High Definition Sound process begins by applying a linear phase shift across the full-frequency range of the signal, which allows the speaker system to reproduce the transients and harmonics in the correct order. The BBE process then compensates for speaker amplitude distortion by progressively boosting lower and higher frequencies, and doing so within the context of the phase correction process. This efficiently creates a fuller, richer sound without excess equalization.

I bought this unit to replace a older full width model BBE that only had the 1/4 plugs and not the balanced XLR's this unit has. Wow, what a difference. This unit really punches the low end out alot more then the older unit did as well as giving the system a large volume boost. I guess the only flaw I can think of is I wish it came with removeable flanges for rack mounting. I ended up using double stick foam tape to sanwich it in between other rack mounted components.

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

    My set up: Mac>Apogee Duet 2>BBE 282ix>Stereo

First, I'm not a professional musician, DJ (hang 'em all), or programmer. I'm an amateur guitarist and music enthusiast. I didn't want to add an eq to my signal chain or spend a lot of money.

I was looking at the 882i. It's way more expensive; so that scared me off. And I'm glad it did. The 282ix's controls are much simpler. I would've hated having to make adjustments to both channels opposed to the one set of controls on the 282ix.

Love the simple on/off button. Great for comparison. This thing is very quiet. A sign of quality for sure. But I really love the dynamics it (not adds, but) lets loose. Night and day difference!

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

I asked a professional sound engineer friend about this unit and he told me that unless you have a really high end p.a. system the Sonic Maximizer would make a big difference. I ordered one, hooked it up to our church sound system... what an improvement! Our Galaxy monitors actually sound good, and our E.V. house speaker cluster has a clarity I've never heard before. I highly recommend this unit, especially for vocals.

great little tool. does everything the larger rack mounted models do. I am out of rack space..so this works out just fine. I would buy it again...made this mix standout better with more clarity.

Comments about BBE 282iX Desktop Sonic Maximizer with Balanced 3-Pin XLR Connections:

The great BBE Sonic Maximizer processor, in miniature. I have been using BBE maximizers for over 20 years. This model represents an incredible value, especially if you catch it on sale! The XLR model with the 15V AC supply has the most headroom for professional applications. The other models excel as channel inserts (1/4") or for home studio (1/8" / RCA).

You will find negative opinions about BBE Sonic Maximizers, mainly from mis-application (not for guitar amps) or over-application (the knobs go all the way, but YOU shouldn't).

The LO Contour is perfect for making up bass at low volume, otherwise the 12 o'clock position is just right. The Process control is just right at 1-2 o'clock, more or less depending on the system. I find with modern active speakers that noon on both is good. The processor is time- and phase- aligning the frequency spectrum to compensate for the shortcomings of all but the highest quality sound systems. If have spent $20K plus on amps and speakers, congrats: you don't need this box. For everyone else, this is the single most cost-effective way to improve your system!

LOOK GUY OR GALS I HAVE BBE 882i 'S IN MY PRO AUDIO RACK. GREAT FOR STEREO AND BEST FOR ME AS A SUB BBE XLR BALLANCED PROCCESSER. I GOT 1 OF THESE TO TRY OUT ON STEREO USE. WHOA!!! THE SAME GREAT RESULTS, BUT EVEN BETTER ONLY 1 SET OF KNOBS CONTROLS BOTH STEREO CHANNELS. NO SLIGHTLY OFF ON 1 SIDE OR ACCEDENTAL BUMPS TO A KNOB. PLUS I CAN USE 3- SIDE BY SIDE IN A 19" 1 RACK SPACK SHELF. I USE 2 AMPS FOR STEREO,RUNNING 4- MAINS ON EACH AMP. 2 OF THESE MAKES EVERYTHING SO MUCH EASIER. KEPPING 2 -BBE 882i'S FOR ADDING MORE SUBWOOFERS. BBE HAS THE BEST SOUND PROCESSING IN THE BUSINESS,GOING BACK TO MY CAR AUDIO DAYS INSTALLING AND COMPETING,ALMOST 20 YEARS AGO. DON'T EVEN THINK THIS ISN'T THE REAL DEAL . "BUY IT YOU'LL SEE" EASY TO DISCONNECT AND THEN POP INTO YOUR STUDIO RACK SET UP. VERY VERSITALE. SO BUY ONE BEFORE TEHY GO UO IN PRICE. NOONE ELSE CAN ENHANCE YOUR SOUND LIKE BBE!!!
