Comments about Behringer 8-Channel Microphone Preamp AD/DA Converter w/MIDAS:

I hate wordy reviews but you do need some basics to go on. I'll try to keep it short-
ME: I've been in the recording biz since 1986 with DemosMasters recording. The one thing that has been a constant is that music sales people will tell you that you need X, Y or Z to get a good recording, when in fact, you need a good song and a good sound to start with to get a good recording.
I've only had this thing for about a week and I have only used it on drums.
It reproduces my drumset very well and true across the entire spectrum of sound. All of it sounds natural and there is enough clean headroom to push some distant mics I use with no noise. In other words, this is a super good unit for a dirt cheap price.
I have owned and/or used everything the tascam US-whatevers to the most expensive. Most are very good and some are excellent or above. These days it is hard to get bad sound. I have paired this with a Focusrite 18i8 and most would agree that unit is outstanding. These converters/pres match up close enough I cannot tell them apart.
The issue with Behringer, for me, has always been longevity as well as quality. TherTheir equipment often has a short use life and sometimes is good for amateur recording only - so time will tell. This appears to be built well. It looks great. It feels solid. It sounds really good. At the price I got it at, I cannot see any reason to complain if I have to replace it in a year or two anyway so I definitely am happy with my purchase.

Comments about Behringer 8-Channel Microphone Preamp AD/DA Converter w/MIDAS:

    Good construction.
Converters are a bit harsher on highs than Steinberg or Audient, etc. but still very clean.
    Hooks up easily, works well.

Comments about Behringer 8-Channel Microphone Preamp AD/DA Converter w/MIDAS:

I own a rather large and nice studio wit a total of 48 digital inputs at once. I don't need that many but the way it is setup, the good stuff has no outputs that I want to use as main outs -so, I bought an ADA8200 for that purpose.
The unit actually has nice sounding preamps, locks up smooth and is the only unit that actually has a way to direct sound out to mains and monitors. The Octopre does not. The TubeOpto does but I use those outs to monitor the performance coming from the inputs to avoid latency. The choices left are very expensive or this unit at a super low price. AND - While it works, it is really good.
Here is the issue. I bought one. I didn't use it for about 5 months. Once I plugged it in, the unit had issues within about a week. I called Musician's Friend and they started the return process which took about 3+ weeks before Behringer got back to me. The day they did get in touch, I sent the unit out for repair. SIX weeks after that, I got the unit back. There was no update email which prompted me to waste hours trying to track the unit down one day.
I bought another unit in the meantime and it was still cheaper by a long shot to own 2 of these than once reliable unit.
Again, they do sound good. If you were a home studio and could afford the downtime, this would be a really excellent recording input. I run a Motu 24Ai with TubeOpto's making up a 48 channel studio. I monitor the live portion with an Allen and Heath GL2800 and I have an automated board for mixdown. This unit is comfortable in that setup and if I needed to use the inputs, I don't think I'd bat an eye at the idea. It really does sound surprisingly good.

Comments about Behringer 8-Channel Microphone Preamp AD/DA Converter w/MIDAS:

When I bought this I tried it out on drums and acoustic guitar since that would pretty much cover all the bases. The sound quality of this is actually surprisingly good. Transients are fast and the sound is rich and detailed. SO - Why the one star, you ask?
I used this for a day and then didn't need to turn it on for a long time. Then I turned it on and it worked fine for a day before giving me nothing but glitches. The 3rd day, it did not rise again. I got nothing but static in a metronome count of about 60bpm. I tried new power plugs, a new conditioner, you name it. It was broken.
Well within the warranty period, I called MusiciansFriend to start a return. They started it and to date, it has been weeks with no manufacturer's response.
Standing behind your product with a fake warranty is more aggravating that not having one at all. If Behringer will not even contact me when I try to get a unit fixed, they might as well have none at all.
Did I get a lemon? Most likely yes. Will yours work if you buy it? Maybe, roll the dice and find out. The difference between worth the money and not worth the money comes down to the people behind the promise. Behringer fails.
