These are really awesome when they work... I've had problems with the bypass relays where the connectors in the relays weren't making full contact with the pads in normal effect mode (non-bypass). All the other parts are great quality, but those mechanical relays just cause too much trouble. It's not hard to fix or even bypass the relays all together (maybe that's why they call them bypass relays) but they are supposed to just work right? Solutions: On mine I found the plastic around the relays to be a little warped so I cut away the plastic and pow! It now works every time without the nasty noise and drop in level. Since I have an engineering background it was easy for me to fix, but for others it may be more difficult. If you have one of these or are planning to buy one and find the sound quality on one or both channels to be horrible, then find a skilled tech. All that needs to be done is to 'carefully' cut away the plastic around the relays. The problem is most notable when 'all' the effects are off and you switch the main bypass mode on and off. You can hear the relays click in the back and sometimes they fix themselves, but hopefully Behringer has learned from this and fixes it in later products or provides some sort of fix for current users.

The spectrum from around 40Hz to 16KHz seems rather true, but beyond, forget it. Yes, the digital processors do make some clicks and pops on occasion, and I even have power conditioners. I feel it is an internal design issue. I personally went back to Linear Analog EQ to avoid all that A/D D/A converstion and keep the signal as pure as possible. Yes, it is a very nice / pretty looking device with all the light show in the RTA mode, but if you want a TOOL, then you may consider something like AudioControl, Rane, Audio Precision, Linear X, for RTA's that have calibrated Mic's and have a prooven performance track record in the industry. Yes, they will cost considerablly more, but, you get what you pay for. There is no "Free Lunch" in a nut shell. For a beginner on a budget, not too concerned about LAB Grade results, it will suffice. For a Serious Sound Engineer, I would reconsider alternative brands.Overall, I can't really condem Behringer, they do give you a value and tons of features. The thing is that, almost every company uses the word "Professional", and I feel that until you have spent the money to have it in hand to evaluate, the word itself dose not hold a lot of weight alone aside from a marketing phrase.I hope my views and experiences will aid future buyers from being more informed with their future purchase(s).

Great tool but with standard Behringer gremlins

By AzDude

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

I really like the usefulness, sound quality, and low noise of this device. It's Auto-EQ function solved some major issues for my studio. But I've noticed a trend in each of the digital Behringer units that I've owned. They crash frequently until you unplug all the internal connections and clean and reseat them. I spray them with Caig D5 Deoxit and have not had any repeat issues. If you're technical enough to do this, Behringer gear is reliable and cost effective.

Chunk of crap!

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

Well I just tested my 4th one and it has the same issue. When using the DEQ the sound field totally changes putting the majority of the sound into the left ear by dropping the "M-Gain" by 1 DB. I had 3 that all did this error and the other unit wouldn't even turn on. I have no clue how no one else have not noticed this. Don't waste your time buying this because you will return it after adjusting the "M-Gain" level on the DEQ.

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

When these things work, you get features that you can't get in another EQ that's X10 the price. Unfortunately, this is the 3rd one I've gone through in 5 years.I'm using this in a studio to balance the system to the room. The first one, the right channel gave out. The other two have had the left channel give out.I'm not pushing them hard and I'm not running them hot. They are racked (and never moved once in place) with conditioned power running to them.

Behringer Hits A Grand Slam

By Danny-LHVdv

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

This is an excellent unit with great features. Having an entirely separate EQ and feedback destroyer module is worth the entry cost. The most beautiful thing is having a feedback destroyer that improves over the original stand-alones by allowing you to lock the filters entirely with a couple of button presses (much better than tedious setting of all filters to parametric mode on an individual basis). The dynamics module is very, very useful, even though I question the usefulness of an expander/ gate in a "full mix" situation. On the downside, the "width" function seems a little bit superfluous, and I've never had a use for dynamic EQ (I would have preferred that they save the DSP for an additional parametric EQ section). The RTA (and accompanying auto EQ) are more interesting than useful to me, but others seem to find them very useful. Behringer did a good job on the interface, but it does do some counterintuitive things at times (though once you get used to the small quirks, they fade into the background). A usable EQ in your rack can make the difference between a mediocre PA sounding good, and a good PA sounding great, and this unit goes far beyond mere usability.

This device never worked correctly! After blowing 4 very expensive sub-woofers I removed it from my rack. I forgot to return it during the warranty period so I am stuck with a expensive device that I cannot use.

      Nice Idea but..........

      By jbplayer-fmjLg

      from Los Angeles

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

The Behringer DEQ2496 is exactly what I like in a system processor with the Parametric and Graphic EQ. But it suffers in quality. The internal chips run far too hot and I get crashes that require a power down reset. Somewhere, Behringer decided to save a few dollars in the power supply or heat sinking which makes the unit unreliable.

      Awesome Signal Prossesor!!!

      By Chrispynoise

      from Montauk, NY

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

It is astounding how so much capability is packed into such a reasonably priced box! I started using one for FOH and after a week I ordered three more for a monitor rack. I?ve use it for about a year. Out of four units out for a year I?ve had one lock up on me on an out door show (rebooted has not repeated since) and recently the same unit started making static at very low volume. Three of the units have worked flawlessly and I LOVE the DEQ and having the ability to sweep a parametric while using a graphic. There are other features that are equally cool. All in all it does a lot of things well in one rack space, and for what you pay it almost free.

      So Much for So Little...

      By Chiphed

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

I am a basement studio hobbyist. I have been drooling over the single rack-space mastering processors I see in magazines. The price (frequently well over 1,000.00), however, makes me sick. LEAVE IT TO BEHRINGER to give us the opportunity to own a mastering processor which is not only effective, but way affordable. Best of all, the price is "wife-approved"!

      Great Audiophile Tool

      By QuietCave

      from Omaha, NE

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

I'm not a musician but an adiophile/hobbyist. I bought the DEQ2496 to use as an in-room spectrum analyzer to even out some bass standing waves in my media room using the Behringer mic. Works like a charm! It boggles my mind that so much capabilty is packed into such a reasonably priced device! However, if you leave it on the mic input to display a spectragraph for more than a few hours it locks up and must be powered off/on to restore. It also can't be used as an RTA at the same time it's EQing. Doesn't tolerate heat well.

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

I cant really agree with the other comments below. I have been using more than 10 DEQ's in fixed installations and they have been performing flawlessly over the last three years. In fact I am about to order another 4 units for a new project. This DEQ is really good and there is nothing out there that comes close in terms of performance and features. This is a fine unit and I can only say well done Behringer.

Comments about Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor:

I use this to replace analog parametric EQs in fixed house of worship installations. I've probably installed 20 or more. Although there are more features, I only use fixed filters. I manually find feedback nodes, notch them out, and walk away knowing it will stay. I have had quality issues. One came "new" but someone had sloppily replaced ICs. Behringer factory service was fantastic, fixed it up under warrantee. Another quit working after a year in service. Only clue feedback, thanks to automatic bypass. The ROM lost its memory.
We liked the DSP filtering so much, we incorporated the parametric filtering into our own mixer. Although the DEQ2496 is a good product, I probably will not be buying many more.
The user interface on the DEQ2496 is not easy to use. Once you get the hang of it, it does function.
Overall, a lot of product for a reasonable price.

It does amazing things given u figure out how to use it. Discription of functions is terrible.

Buy a new one. First I got was not working out of the box. I learned to expect that from beghringer, not very reliable. But at this price u can afford to buy 5 before u get to the cost of other comperable eqs. Musiciansfriend overnighted a replacement guys are ausome.

Auto eq is pretty good always have to ajust after a bit though to avoid loosing the charactor of sound coming through.

For the money nothing even comes close.

Bump up the reliability a bit and it would be a 5 star all day long. For now 4 is all it gets.

i like the flexibility for the price but am very disappointed to find out how Innacurate the units RTA is. Try running individual Frequencies from a test disc and be surprised how off the RTA is. Yes I am using the behringer mic with it and it is set at the recommended setting. My 1K was popping out at 4K- wow, there seems to be shift in every frequency- very disappointed, the whole idea behind a RTA is to be able to locate Frequencies, good thing I have trained ears. Stick with a DBX Drive Rack

I use this device as part of my home audio system to EQ out room effects. VERY easy to use (much more so than the 8024), flexible. The ADC and DAC aren't dead quiet, and channel separation on analog is less then perfect. But using it within the DIGITAL domain is great.
