An improved power-to-weight ratio thanks to Class D technology.

Like its fellow EUROLIVE D Series loudspeakers, the EUROLIVE B212D PA speaker system features Behringer's special Class D amplifier technology and internal switch-mode power supply to provide a much better power-to-weight ratio than other active speakers. To put it simply, you get all the power without the backbreaking weight.

Due to the high-efficiency design, the EUROLIVE B212D cranks out 450W of the cleanest, punchiest audio you've ever heard from a compact PA speaker system. The integrated sound processor provides total system control, along with dependable protection of the LF and HF transducers, thanks to the built-in active high-pass filter, which virtually eliminate distortion—even at extreme operating levels. In addition, it features an ultralow-noise mic/line input with LEVEL control and a dedicated two-band EQ (bass/treble) for easy control.

    Intelligent by design
One of the coolest things about active loudspeakers is the lack of backbreaking racks of amps, crossovers, and EQs that are often required to make passive speaker systems sound almost as good. But that comes with a trade-off&mdash:;that extra weight is transferred to the audio speaker, making it difficult for a single user to heave all that mass onto the top of a speaker stand.

Behringer's EUROLIVE D Series' "Intelligent-Design" merges the best features of active loudspeakers with significantly lower weight by using switch-mode power supplies and Class D amplifier topology. Hidden deep inside the enclosure is the equivalent of an active two-way electronic crossover, graphic EQ, parametric EQ, mic preamp, limiter, and 2 Class D power amplifiers, yet the overall weight is less than a comparable loudspeaker system. These components work together seamlessly to provide optimum sound quality—and it all takes place automatically, without you having to touch a single knob.

Class D Amplifier Technology delivers high power with low weight
Instead of operating relatively continuously like Class A/B circuits, Class D amps switch on and off thousands of times per second, delivering power only when needed. In other words, the amplifier is either fully on or fully off, which significantly reduces the power losses in the output devices. This is simple in theory and complex in practice, which is why there are so many different Class D designs. Without boring you with terms like PWM Generation and Gate Drivers, let's just say that to realize the benefits of a Class D design requires compensating for a lot of potential problems that can cause audible distortion. BEHRINGER didn't invent Class D technology, but their R&D department has been working for years to perfect their own version with all the benefits of reduced weight and cool running, yet without the drawbacks. That's why they invested more than a solid year of research time eliminating pitfalls like quantizing errors and excess dead time, selecting just the right switching frequency (and other equally tech-y terms). It's also why they spent an equally long time testing individual components to ensure they will stand up to the rigors of the real world.

When combined with switching-mode power supplies that replace heavy toroid transformers, these new designs provide more dynamic punch since the higher switching frequency reloads the supply's capacitors much faster. And, because they are so much more efficient, the D Series loudspeakers run cooler and don't require huge and heavy heat sinks. The resulting speakers systems are much lighter, making them easy to transport and set up. BEHRINGER's no-compromise design means your EUROLIVE B212D active speaker system will deliver full power and incredible fidelity all night long, with no need for rest cycles.

    Instant PA system
With just a single EUROLIVE B212D PA system and a microphone or MP3 player, you can set up an instant sound system. Thanks to the built-in preamp section, you just connect a dynamic mic and raise and lower the volume with the Level control. Plug in your sound source, place the speaker on a tabletop or stand, and power up. It's just that easy. And if you need more coverage, simply use the convenient LINK OUTPUT XLR connector to add more active loudspeakers.

    Stereo music system
You can use two EUROLIVE B212D enclosures for stereo playback of your MP3, CD, or old-school cassette deck without any additional hardware. Just plug the appropriate stereo breakout adapter into your deck's output jack and run the cables to the 1/4" inputs on each loudspeaker. Set the Level and EQ controls the same on both enclosures, and you've got an instant party.

    Marvelous monitoring
Thanks to their trapezoidal design, the D Series cabinets can be laid on their side providing the ideal angle for onstage monitor wedge applications. Hookup is simple too, requiring only a single XLR or 1/4" cable from the monitor send on your mixing console and, of course, power. Additional monitors can be chained together via the XLR LINK OUTPUT jack on the rear panel.

    Custom-designed transducers
The transducers (woofers and tweeters) are the only part of a sound system you actually hear, so Behringer didn't cut any corners. They custom-design and build their transducers from scratch. Not only do they wind their own voice coils, they process the paper pulp into cones and even machine their own back-plates. This enables Behringer to control the quality and make better components, like the long-excursion LF transducers and state-of-the-art 1.35" compression drivers deployed in each EUROLIVE speaker enclosure.

    Low-frequency response
The EUROLIVE D Series speakers were built with extended low-frequency handling in mind. With a tuned port, internally braced, injection-molded enclosure, each model's custom-designed LF transducer (woofer) really cranks out tight low end.

    Accurate non-fatiguing midrange and treble
Even if your particular application doesn't include booming bass, you'll love the sheer accuracy of the EUROLIVE B212D system. Over a year of design went into an exponential horn/aluminum dome compression driver combination that could do justice to loud hard rock or dance music—yet could also satisfy audiophiles with its musical timbre and attention to detail. For spoken word, singing, or acoustical instruments, the D Series loudspeakers are able to articulate complex harmonic details.

    Processor controlled output
Dynamic processing is one of the best ways to maximize output without sacrificing sound quality. The EUROLIVE B212D's built-in circuitry automatically adjusts program content, allowing the loudspeaker to operate at extreme levels. It accomplishes this by reducing bass output slightly as you approach the limit of the transducers. This frees up LF amp and transducer resources, so that higher overall volume can be realized. It's like having a tiny soundman inside each cabinet constantly monitoring and changing output parameters. By making subtle changes to the crossover frequency and the audio content, the system is able to crank out more sound&mdashwithout the slightest hint of distortion.

    Massive power-to-size ratio
Cutting-edge technology and high-fidelity speakers are not all it takes to get your message across&mdashyou need power, and lots of it. At the heart of each Behringer EUROLIVE B212D loudspeaker is two high-current amplifiers with a total output of 550 watts. They're capable of driving the speakers to their maximum with no distortion—and without speaker damage, thanks to active internal protection circuits. Put simply, they will astound you with their massive punch, smooth mids, and articulate top end.

I read all these reviews about how terrible 212's are. Well, I've gone back in time a little bit and reviewed the 4 EuroLive 212A's I bought about 8 years ago. I recently had a problem with one, which prompted me to check out B212D's. If they're similar, and I think they are, this review should help with your decision.
My 212A's have been with me through 4 bands over 8 years, proving they're much more reliable than flighty lead singers. I've used them for keyboard monitors, floor vocal wedges, drum monitors, and even stuck one up on a pole when one of our high dollar JBL's decided to take the night off.

I don't ask for a whole lot of features out of an active speaker. I subscribe to the "garbage in, garbage out" theory of sound reenforcement. All my bells and whistles are in the keyboards, the samples, the rack effects; the speakers just need to deliver accurate, flat sound. I make certain I don't turn the 212's up to "11"; I check before start time to see if they limit/clip the signal I'm sending, and back it off. I can get 125 db of clear keyboard from 6' if I need to. 212A's can make keys a little bassy sometimes, and I compensate with between -1 to -6 db's on the bass EQ control.
Durability is not a problem, the hard plastic case is unbreakable, even after 4 bands tossing them from trailer to stage to trailer again. The speaker grates do get scraped up, and are not easily removed to spray paint. Get out the brushes and dab, not stroke, on the black Rustoleum. I did lose a knob on one, but it was just the knob, not a broken stem. I've read reviews about broken off knobs, and can't imagine rougher handling than what my 4 bands put my 212A's through. What are you guys doing? Be more careful.

I mentioned a problem with one of my 212A's earlier. Here's the problem:
I lost the horn on one, leaving everything to go through the 12" woofer. No highs. I got a REAL long Phillips screwdriver and opened it up for one last stab at a miracle fix. What did I find? A speaker lead hanging off the horn. Crimped it back on, and closed it up; works perfectly. I'm blaming my lead singer for dropping it. Again. One problem with one speaker out of 4 in 8 years? Pretty good percentage, if you ask me.
I carry one in each hand. Hookup is a power cable and a 1/4" audio cable. (Literally) dropping these speakers doesn't hurt them. Considering these were a new concept (speaker & amp in one enclosure) when I got them, I feel these were worth every penny.

I read a few reviews here about these speakers and I must say that I disgree with a number of them. First off I have owned a pair of these for about five years now. I finally got tired of "lugging" around a rack and two QSC amps to play clubs. I decided to try a pair of active powered speakers and bought the Behringer B212 which I pole mount. This immediately eliminated two of the speakers I was carrying and one of the QSC amps. The sound was very impressive. Two years ago I bought a pair of Mackie Thump 15's when they were introduced at a price point very near the Behringer 15 inch active speakers which I was planning to buy. This and eliminated my two 15 JBL cabs and the other QSC amp. My back is greatful. While my Behringers look a little beat up, they work like the day I bought them. I do not abuse my equipment on purpose but since I am a regular player (at least twice a week) things just happen. These Behringer B212 cabs have tumbled off of my hand cart several times and become scratched and nicked in the process but they still work great. Nice clean high end (actually better highs than my Mackie's) and very reasonable low end.

I am not sure where Behringer got an undeserved reputation for "cheap" "low quality" products, but I have lots of Behringer stuff and it all works great. I have several Behringer rack mount units (patch panel, compressor, sonic enhancer) in my 24 track digital home studio and they sound great. I have also never had to return or repair any of my Behringer stuff. I can't say that about some other well known products I have had that cost twice as much and cost me even more in repairs.

If I had one complaint about these speakers it would be that the knobs on the rear of the speaker stick out too much and (though it hasn't happened to me yet) I am afraid that one or more will be broken off one day. Behringer should recess these knobs. I use my Behringers on stands with my Mackie 15's on the floor. The sound is very big, clean and loud. In addition my band often plays a club that has it's own permanent house system (not too bad either). We take along the Behringers and use them as extra powered floor monitors and they work great.

After five years of use playing and unintentional abuse these Behringer speakers have continued to work well. If money is not a problem, go for it and buy JBL, Community or other high end speakers. They are great and deserve their reputations. On the other hand, they will cost at least two to three times (or more) as much as the Behringers. You decide if it is actually worth it for your playing situation.

We purchased 2 of the powered 12" behringer speakers to use as monitors. They worked well eliminating the need for an outboard eq. Until the first one quit at about a year. The replacement didn' t last that long. Clicking, feedback, reset. Both the same. Also, as a monitor, it rests on the cable connectors. Would not recommend.

I've owned all the expensive ones, sold them and bought the Behringers and had a pocket full of money left over. Sorry, but there has been no noticeable difference. LOUD and CLEAR sound. A pair makes a great STEREO keyboard amplifier, and the two combined weigh less and are louder than any comparable keyboard amp Combined they still cost less money. For most gigs I only need one.

Using this speaker for an acoustic duo in small bars and restaurants it is awesome! The sound is loud and clear. We use one speaker on a stand and a Behringer mixer. This speaker has an amazing clear high end and we use the built in tone knob to add a little bit extra low end. This is the best speaker I've ever owned and plan to buy a second one or possible the 15" version.

I purchased 2 of these in april of 2012. I've used them for karaoke maybe 6 or 8 times. one of them quit working. i contacted MF about it. They said sorry. They couldn't help me. I had to coax a Behringer warranty contact number from the so called MF service rep. the closest Behringer service center is in Chicago. 3 hours away. now i have to purchase a shipping carton and pay shipping costs to get it there. I'm guessing that'll be costly to get it repaired. I thought I was saving money by getting this product. Was I ever wrong! Needless to say I have bought my last Behringer product.

We bought these so we didn't have to load in our large SP-2 speakers for our acoustic gigs and they perform fantastically! Easy to carry in, put on the stands and the sound was great for vocals and guitars with tons of headroom. They will also double nicely as monitors for the full band. Highly recommend these if you're looking for a good speaker with a good price point and you don't have to break you're back loading them in and out of a gig.

I own 6 of these. I use them as monitors for live sound. I have owned these for over a year without problems. I own multiple sets of QSC K series and Mackie SR450's V1 that are generally used for mains depending on the size of the setup. These speakers of course will not match the K series but do come close to the Mackies with subs. However, I only use them as monitors for large setups and for small rental setups. I use them as monitors with DBX notch filters and graphic Eq. For the money they work pretty good. You could easily spend more money and not get any better sound. They are not going to blow you away but, I think they are a steady workhorse and a good value. That's why I started with 2 and now have 6.

These speakers sound good, but lack deep low end bass. You will want a subwoofer to go with these speakers unless your using them for vocals only. The sound quality is good and they are very loud, definitely worth the price.
