    Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

I had no problem installing the driver and firmware update from the Behringer Website in Win XP, and they work flawlessly. Both the ASIO and WDM drivers have low latency. I've recorded up to six audio tracks at once with no drop outs. The sound is very clear with low noise. Using the rear tracks 5 - 8 requires additional preamplification, such as a mixer or preamp, since they require line input level signal. The gain on the front four mic inputs is high enough for ribbon mics. The MIDI has no problems. I haven't tried the digital inputs. If I were buying another interface the FCA1616 would probably be my first choice.
When using USB you have to press the digital select button the first time you turn it on, and USB then becomes the default rather than the original Firewire default.
I use Sonar when recording but I've also used the FCA1616 with various other applications and never had any problems.
Overall, the FCA1616 is a great value in my opinion, and it's designed to fit in a rack, or you can take the "ears" off and use it without a rack on your desktop. I use it in a rack.

    Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

While this versatile little unit has it's limitations, I think it's really a solid value. In firewire mode, it doesn't require external power but needs the extra juice when operating across a usb line. With the drivers available on Behringer's web site I've used it with Adobe CC, Reaper, and Cakewalk Producer so far. It has a solid build, smooth pots and ample headphone headroom. I trust the mix via the headphone out more readily than the headphone out on my Roland monitors. This is a great unit to have around to knock out spontaneous ideas, archive some old ADATS or take board feeds from a live show with some room mics. On the down side, I was never able to get channels 9/10 to function (s/pdif). That might be my old dat machine rather than the fca1616. And there lies the downside. I ran some old dats to pc via the xlr pre, pad engaged, volume pots all the way down. There was noticable coloration of the mix. I have not run white noicse through, but it sounds like there is a bump up below 100htz, between 2-4k plus a dip between 200-400htz. That said I would probably find this coloration desirable with a microphone.

FCA1616 FirePower No Good with ProTools9

    Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

First, I have to say I am a fan of Behringer products. I own many of them but this one was a disappointment simply based on the fact I could not get it to work with ProTools 9.

I called Musicians Friend and asked my primary question "will this work with Pro Tools 9" which I was told "Yes." Well, I could never get it work not for my lack of trying. This is where my biggest complaint is the lack of a manual or other how-to materials. Downloading the drivers was easy enough but I could never get playback in ProTools. I got signal in to the interface but I couldn't get in to ProTools. I searched the web, reached out to Behringer with no response, and watched every YouTube video I could find about the product but alas I was unsuccessful.

Another deceiving aspect about the product is that it claims that there are 8 channels but I couldn't bet more than 6. Again, I think the products biggest issue is the lack of a manual. In our techonology age, I don't see why they would release a product without more resources to be made available.

It is a shame because it was an extremely well built product. I wish I had something to help me to actually use it. I returned it after a month of trying to make it work.

      Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

We bought this as the beginnings of an in-home studio. I have been real impressed with the simplicity and the capabilities that it has to offer. We use Reaper recording software and the two work real well together. There's still more for us to learn, but this will only allow us to improve our recordings.

      Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

For the price this is a great unit. You get 8 inputs and outputs, 4 of the inputs are for mic balanced connectors and allow phantom power. There are individual preamps with gain controls on inputs 1-4 to maximise the input signal to the DAW.

Coming from a Tascam US-122L this is a good step up for me allowing lower latency and more simultaneous recording channels.
I used this for the first time to record a friend and his duo partner and the sound is very clear with no latency whatsoever. I was able to track 3 instruments and vocals into 5 tracks simultaneously with only an hour or so playing around to set it up.

It did take me some time to work out how to switch to USB mode and what settings to use to get 96kHz and 24 bit recording. This is were a decent and comprehensive manual would come in. I also struck problems working out what inputs to plug the instruments into and outputs to use to get additional headphone feeds to the artists. Again, a manual would help there.

As I'm in Australia, post ordering this device I realised I hadn't considered the power situation. No problems because the transformer is 110/240 volts. The AC cord is separate from the transformer (2-pin plug in) and I was able to use a spare cord from an old laptop transformer as the supplied one had US style pins.

        Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

Sounds as good as a Focusrite Scarlet. All the buttons are useful. The headphones can be very loud when turned up to 3/4 and when the main output is turned up to 3/4 - which somehow does not cause the playback meter on my DAW to distort. Very low recording noise such as hiss and hum. My DAW record meter is at or near bottom when record button is on. Zero problems downloading the driver and zero problems installing it. This interface is very easy to use. I am not one to leave reviews, but this product is so well thought out that I wanted to give Behringer a well deserved pat on the back. If you buy this unit, you will like it, use it, and keep it.
