Sounds as good as a Focusrite Scarlet. All the buttons are useful. The headphones can be very loud when turned up to 3/4 and when the main output is turned up to 3/4 - which somehow does not cause the playback meter on my DAW to distort. Very low recording noise such as hiss and hum. My DAW record meter is at or near bottom when record button is on. Zero problems downloading the driver and zero problems installing it. This interface is very easy to use. I am not one to leave reviews, but this product is so well thought out that I wanted to give Behringer a well deserved pat on the back. If you buy this unit, you will like it, use it, and keep it.

Did the job…for 3 months. Firewire connection began generating screaming line noise. Switched to USB and smoke came out of the front. Spend the extra money for a better quality unit.

      Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

While this versatile little unit has it's limitations, I think it's really a solid value. In firewire mode, it doesn't require external power but needs the extra juice when operating across a usb line. With the drivers available on Behringer's web site I've used it with Adobe CC, Reaper, and Cakewalk Producer so far. It has a solid build, smooth pots and ample headphone headroom. I trust the mix via the headphone out more readily than the headphone out on my Roland monitors. This is a great unit to have around to knock out spontaneous ideas, archive some old ADATS or take board feeds from a live show with some room mics. On the down side, I was never able to get channels 9/10 to function (s/pdif). That might be my old dat machine rather than the fca1616. And there lies the downside. I ran some old dats to pc via the xlr pre, pad engaged, volume pots all the way down. There was noticable coloration of the mix. I have not run white noicse through, but it sounds like there is a bump up below 100htz, between 2-4k plus a dip between 200-400htz. That said I would probably find this coloration desirable with a microphone.

          Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

Works great after I spent over 3 days trouble shooting and tweaking my system. The only way I could get this to work without massive dropouts, random clicking and popping (regardless of buffer size) was downgrading back to 8.1. If you are on a Windows 10 system you may want to wait until Behringer releases official drivers for Windows 10. Having done all that the system works like a charm especially with the additional ADAT functionality giving me 16 channels to work with at a time. I can work at very low latency and record multiple channels at once even with a couple live auditioned. and my pc is over 5 years old.

All the audio I've done test recordings on sound crisp and clean and have been very satisfied with the results.

A big fault I do find is the absence of a power switch. I have found that using the usb drivers for functionality works good on PC, whereas I use the firewire cable to power the device instead of the ac adapter. This allows me to shut the unit off when I set my PC to sleep mode. Otherwise it is on all the time unless you unplug it.

            Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

I had no problem installing the driver and firmware update from the Behringer Website in Win XP, and they work flawlessly. Both the ASIO and WDM drivers have low latency. I've recorded up to six audio tracks at once with no drop outs. The sound is very clear with low noise. Using the rear tracks 5 - 8 requires additional preamplification, such as a mixer or preamp, since they require line input level signal. The gain on the front four mic inputs is high enough for ribbon mics. The MIDI has no problems. I haven't tried the digital inputs. If I were buying another interface the FCA1616 would probably be my first choice.
When using USB you have to press the digital select button the first time you turn it on, and USB then becomes the default rather than the original Firewire default.
I use Sonar when recording but I've also used the FCA1616 with various other applications and never had any problems.
Overall, the FCA1616 is a great value in my opinion, and it's designed to fit in a rack, or you can take the "ears" off and use it without a rack on your desktop. I use it in a rack.

We bought this as the beginnings of an in-home studio. I have been real impressed with the simplicity and the capabilities that it has to offer. We use Reaper recording software and the two work real well together. There's still more for us to learn, but this will only allow us to improve our recordings.

I wanted to expand my recording capability to be able to record mutiple tracks simultaniously using DAW Software. This unit is good for that. I would say for the money you cant go wrong. THis unit works as well as units that cost twice as much. If your a musician on a budget that wants or needs a mutitrack interface. This is the ticket.

                Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

I have had this interface for 2 years now. It's the first interface I've ever owned so I don't have much to compare it to, but the sound seems to be fine (I do get a lot of noise in my recordings but that could either be the budget microphones or room ambience) and it has a lot of features. However, a couple problems have come up over the years: 1) About 6 months into owning it, the sound started sporadically turning horribly distorted after 30 minutes or so into using it (which made me jump a couple times :p). It's super inconvenient but it goes away if I close and reopen Studio One so it hasn't been a major issue. 2) I now hear very audible, intermittent popping sounds when monitoring that started a month ago. Aside from those, it has been a pleasure recording with this thing and, as a beginner, I have no regrets buying this! Our time has come to end, however, and I will be replacing it as soon as possible. This has been my experience with it. It may work perfectly for decades for you. It may blow up after a few months. It's a cheap interface.

                Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

First, I have to say I am a fan of Behringer products. I own many of them but this one was a disappointment simply based on the fact I could not get it to work with ProTools 9.

I called Musicians Friend and asked my primary question "will this work with Pro Tools 9" which I was told "Yes." Well, I could never get it work not for my lack of trying. This is where my biggest complaint is the lack of a manual or other how-to materials. Downloading the drivers was easy enough but I could never get playback in ProTools. I got signal in to the interface but I couldn't get in to ProTools. I searched the web, reached out to Behringer with no response, and watched every YouTube video I could find about the product but alas I was unsuccessful.

Another deceiving aspect about the product is that it claims that there are 8 channels but I couldn't bet more than 6. Again, I think the products biggest issue is the lack of a manual. In our techonology age, I don't see why they would release a product without more resources to be made available.

It is a shame because it was an extremely well built product. I wish I had something to help me to actually use it. I returned it after a month of trying to make it work.

                Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

For the price this is a great unit. You get 8 inputs and outputs, 4 of the inputs are for mic balanced connectors and allow phantom power. There are individual preamps with gain controls on inputs 1-4 to maximise the input signal to the DAW.

Coming from a Tascam US-122L this is a good step up for me allowing lower latency and more simultaneous recording channels.
I used this for the first time to record a friend and his duo partner and the sound is very clear with no latency whatsoever. I was able to track 3 instruments and vocals into 5 tracks simultaneously with only an hour or so playing around to set it up.

It did take me some time to work out how to switch to USB mode and what settings to use to get 96kHz and 24 bit recording. This is were a decent and comprehensive manual would come in. I also struck problems working out what inputs to plug the instruments into and outputs to use to get additional headphone feeds to the artists. Again, a manual would help there.

As I'm in Australia, post ordering this device I realised I hadn't considered the power situation. No problems because the transformer is 110/240 volts. The AC cord is separate from the transformer (2-pin plug in) and I was able to use a spare cord from an old laptop transformer as the supplied one had US style pins.

                Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

I bought this to preemptively replace a DIGI 003 Rack that will be unsupported when Pro Tools 13 comes out. Has similar I/O etc...so I picked it up because on the surface it seems like a versatile little interface for the price: it has all the connectivity I use in my studio, including sends, ADAT, S/PDIF, and cue mixes, multiple monitor outs, etc. Bottom line, I'm sending it back. Firewire connectivity is spotty at best and totally unresponsive the rest of the time (USB seems to work better, but still nowhere near perfect). When it does get recognized, this interface crashes pro tools, or the computer, or both, far more frequently than any other interface I've had. The preamps are plenty hot, and sound decent, but have a lot of color and low headroom; A/B to others I own (presonus, ART) showed the others to be way better sounding. ADAT connectivity is totally unreliable, will only talk to my Digimax D8 about half the time, which is about half of what I need (I tried every clock source configuration there is), and doesn't work at all when connected to the computer via firewire. The MIDI connection only receives data from controllers about half the time as well, the rest of the time it just doesn't respond. The interface just plain doesn't work, really...can't be having something that works half the time, which I can't predict, in a paying client studio. I know these are standard complaints about a lot of interfaces but this one is especially bad. Seems like a great deal for what you get at the price, but just do yourself a favor and spend the extra 100 bills for a presonus, focusrite, or audient.

                    Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

I bought this to record 4 or 5 different synths at a time, (live jam sessions with volcas etc) and for that it works quite well. I also use it to record small bands, and multi mic various instruments. Setup was simple enough. All the functions are fairly straight forward. Works well with Ableton live. One thing that I absolutely do NOT like is the lack of a power switch. For USB at least, you have to use the included power supply, and physically unplug it to turn it off. A simple power button on the front panel would have gotten this a fifth star. It can record in up to 96khz, but I haven't tested it at that high of a setting yet. Like most audio mixing equipment, the name is misleading, you don't actually get 16 channels out of the box, you get 4 combo mic/line and 4 more line inputs. (I knew this going in and its more than enough for me, but its still annoying when shopping for consoles/interfaces) You also get a bunch of inserts which is cool. If you actually want the 16 channels, you need an expansion. The first 4 channels include Midas Preamps which sound great, as well as a low impedance mode for guitar, phantom power, and a Hi-pass filter. All in all I am quite happy with it.

                    Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

The Behringer FCA1616 provides crystal clear inputs for turning your home into a great sounding recording studio, and equally as crystal clear outputs, so hearing your recordings on playback is a satisfying experience. My FCA1616 is connected to my PC via USB and experiences extremely low latency. Latency is not zero, but it is low enough that it is not a bother. Of course, depending on your system specs, your mileage may vary. The only complaint I have, hardware-wise, is regarding initial setup. Apparently, the FCA1616 is defaulted to use FireWire. To switch to USB, there are a few hoops through which one must jump. These hoops are noted in a hard-to-find spot on page 14 of the instruction manual. Other than that one hiccup, setup was a breeze and I went from nothing to producing something within minutes.

Unfortunately, I am less impressed with the bundled software that comes with the FCA1616. There are no value-added titles bundled with the FCA1616. Instead, you get a collection of free software that can be downloaded, online, without the purchase of a FCA1616. Some of these non-valuable software titles include: Audacity, Podcast, a ton-load of free VST instruments and effects, and some VST hosts that cannot even be used, if you plan on actually selling the music you create with it, as doing so would go against at least one of the VST hosts' license agreement. Thankfully, you do not need to use the included software in order to use the FCA1616. I opted to just ignore the included software and just use the FCA1616 with the software DAW and VST instruments/effects that I already had loaded.

In summary, the FCA1616 looks and sounds incredible and is capable of recording clear, professional-quality audio. But, if you are looking for an audio interface that comes bundled with a rich selection of software, you will be disappointed with what the FCA1616 offers.

                    Comments about Behringer FCA1616 Firepower:

The Behringer 1616 does not have the tone nor volume that I was getting from my 2 channel PreSonus Audiobox interface. I have to crank the volume up half way to get the same volume as the PreSonus set at 1/4 volume. When I plug my guitar in the Behringer 1616 front inputs while running first through my guitar processor, I do not get a full tone nor volume.
I have only had the Behringer 1616 for a couple of weeks, so I have not had the opportunity to really try running it through its paces as I have been out of town a few days and had other pressing projects to attend to. However, I did do some basic recordings and they were fine. I have to crank up my PA for a proper playback volume. The Behringer 1616 received high reviews from the tutorial demonstrations on youtube that I checked out. I believe it will produce a good quality recording and after I become more familiar and proficient with the Behringer 1616 I will be more satisfied with it. I think it is a good value for the money.

Bought this as a cheap card to play around with at home. The converters sound good, the options for in and outs is great. The headphone monitoring section is not good. All knobs in this section are dependent upon one another. I bought the extra replacement insurance since it's a Behringer, hopefully it stays working.

I would recommend buying a cheap headphone amp and run it to an extra set of outs.

I'm using this on an old imac using the Firewire connection.
