OVERVIEW

6 In / 10 Out, 24-bit/96kHz FireWire/USB Audio/MIDI interface with MIDAS preamplifiers.

Due to its small size and low-latency operation, 6 In/10 Out architecture, plus two highly-acclaimed MIDAS designed mic preamps, the FCA610 is a dream come true for traveling musicians who record and edit on their laptops. The portable FCA610 can receive power from your computer's 6-pin FireWire bus or via the included external power supply. Built-in MIDI I/O allows you to connect keyboards and other outboard MIDI hardware. All standard I/O formats are supported including analog and S/PDIF (both coaxial and optical). The half-rack-space FCA610 stows easily in your travel kit.

Get yourself connected
On the rear panels of the FCA610, you'll have ports that give you the choice of using FireWire and USB 2.0. Inputs are balanced 1/4" jacks that accept a wide range of line-level devices. Outputs accept both balanced and unbalanced 1/4" connections. The two headphones jacks are conveniently located on the front panel, with a dedicated volume control.

The tech-y side of things

Both FIREPOWER FCA610 interface feature state-of-the-art, high-resolution 24-bit A/D-D/A converters, supporting up to a 96kHz sampling rate. Reliable Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 drivers and Mac OS X support ensure ultra-low latency operation.

Bundled software

To take full advantage of your computer's recording, editing and podcasting potential, Behringer offers a software download that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). This mask you ready to go live on your PC or Mac right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio.

One more thing you get is TRACKTION 4 Audio Production Software. TRACKTION 4 puts the fun back into the creative process. This powerful, yet easy-to-use music production software is unlike anything you've seen before, putting everything you'll need on your desktop, on a single screen - without the sea of drop down and hidden menus common to most other DAWs. And TRACKTION doesn't limit the number of tracks you can record, or the number of effects you can use. In fact, the only limitation is your Mac or PC computer's processing power. Recording and editing couldn't be easier; simply drag, drop, cut, copy or paste. Once your magnum opus is finished, share it with other "Tracktioneers" so they can listen, collaborate and edit.

Comments about Behringer FCA610 Firepower/USB Audio Interface:

Cannot really recommend it. I had it for 2 days and returned it.

On principle everything worked fine. Windows 8 driver install was no problem. Recording with Sonar X3 Producer was fine. I tried the RCA digital in coming from my Axe-Fx II digital out (have to go to 48kHz for that, Axe limitation), fine too. I ended up using the analog in though because of the 48kHz switching.

Two problems I could not live with however. The device makes quite loud pops when turning power on/off. The big one however was that the headphone volume is linked to the master volume, meaning if you turn down the master volume the headphone goes down too. I searched around for the longest time and the workaround found on one of Behringer's moderated pages was to create a separate headphone mix in the DAW and route it to one of the outputs that is not regulated by the Master volume. That worked, however in that setting the direct monitoring was not working at all, i.e. I could only hear the input signal with the usual latency going to and coming back from the computer. That was about 20ms using ASIO, not really bad, but I did not want to put up with such an inferior setup.

Just got the Focusrite 2i4. No digital in/out, but don't really need it. It's perfect and has neither of the two problems above. Sorry Behringer, otherwise you'd have a decent product there.

Comments about Behringer FCA610 Firepower/USB Audio Interface:

I'm running on Window 7 64bit and the drivers are rock solid. I was running it in Sonar X-2 but have since moved to PreSonus Studio One and this delivers the goods.I purchased this to replace a Quad Capture that never delivered on the mic pres. The mic pres in this are clear and they bring the punch. There are no onboard DSP but I didn't want any. I wanted a straight signal path (that was the main reason of leaving the Quad the DSP introduced noise. This has none so no noise and introduced artifacts. Take some time with your mic placement the mic pres in this will reveal subtle differences in not only where you place the mic in the room but also the axis that you hit the diaphragm from. Experiment a bit and you can get some very professional sounds.

Comments about Behringer FCA610 Firepower/USB Audio Interface:

I have been playing for a long time and recently decided to start recording. I have many other Behringer products and so naturally I chose this interface since I know and trust the brand. It is very cheap for an interface, but it sounds like something you emptied your wallet for. It is very simple and easy to use. If you have firewire there is absolutely no latency; with USB it is a little off, but still hardly noticeable. It is easy to learn to use as well as the Traktion 4 software included. There is no better deal on an interface than this one here. If you are an amateur wanting to record, this is definitely something to put on your wishlist.

Comments about Behringer FCA610 Firepower/USB Audio Interface:

I did wait for a while to get fw interface from Behringger and it's here. After few cards that are not working fine under Win 7 64bit, I found one which is very good and stable. I didn't record anything on it yet but for DJing in Traktor and ABleton Live, this card is working great job.

Comments about Behringer FCA610 Firepower/USB Audio Interface:

The FCA610 is good value for money and the parts of it that work seem very reliable after 2 months fairly continual use. Where I feel let down is in it's limited compatibility with Macs. My Mac is cursed with the horrible Thunderbolt port...this piece of nastiness Apple came up with is hardly Behringers fault, but when I asked their support line why it kept not connecting via a Firewire/Thunderbolt adaptor they said straight off that they couldn't recommend trying to use Thunderbolt and I should stick to USB. If anything else goes wrong with the machine, the firmware needs to be updated which can't be done on a Mac at all. You'd need a PC for it. So I'd recommend it for PCs but not Macs...even less the latest laptops.

Comments about Behringer FCA610 Firepower/USB Audio Interface:

I needed an interface with multiple outputs that would let me split my computer's backing tracks, processed guitar, and vocals for live performances (sound guys like it when you're able to split your channels). Within 20 minutes I was up and running and the FCA610 worked exactly as I wanted it to. The sound is crisp and clean, and the input options are fantastic. If you're a one man band, this is the perfect interface for live performances.
