The MDX2600 is a good compressor. It works great for live sound reinforcement and I have used mine to level out the vocals on demo recordings. Like any other compressor you have to LEARN HOW TO USE IT. Too many people write reviews blaming the gear when the prooblem is their own lack of knowledge and experience. I have owned two of these units, and currently have one in my PA rack, and it does a great job. I use one channel to level out the lead singer's vocal peaks and the other channel for gating and compressing the kick drum. The MDX2600 does a great job for both applications. I plan to buy another soon for use as an overall compressor / peak limiter to protect my PA amps and speakers. I know Behringer gets a bad rap sometimes, and sometimes they may deserve it, but not for this product. This is a solid compressor at a good price that a working band can afford.

I think for the money, this is decent. The tube button warms things up a bit (good live). The Enhancer is also ok for live work. If your looking for something for guitar or bass go buy a stomp-box. I use this in my home studio, and I also use it live (I'm a house engineer). It hasn't really failed me. It is very transparent, It gets the job done. I personally like The Presonus Blue Max for the pricerange. If you have the money,go for something by ART. But overall, this was a good buy. I wouldn't buy another one though.

Very nice unit, does exactly what it says it will do. I use it in an apartment studio and it works great. Of course if you spend more money the dbx is superior (I own both) but not by much. Behringer does a good job of giving good value for the money

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

I do a solo with backing tracks from different sources so I wanted something to help even out the volume disparities, and especially extreme dynamics. I was constantly riding the background volume controls.

I am no audio engineer, so at first this was out of my league. I crunched on the manual, called a recording engineer and pretty soon I was riding with the big dogs.

Everything I have purchased so far from Behringer has exceeded my expectations. A quality piece for a good price.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

Surprisingly easy to use given the amount of buttons and knobs this thing has. I like how it gives you an option of using the TRS and XLR inputs and outputs. And the knobs have a nice tactile clikiness to them. One note of warning though for those that use a mic with the compressor: be sure to get a mic preamp first!Without a preamp, the mic's signal is too weak for the Behringer to compress! I did not know this when I bought the compressor along with an SM58. I went ahead and got an M-Audio DMP3 preamp and it made a HUGE difference. They work beautifully together. If you have a mixer with a decent builtin preamp, that would work, too.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

This thing works magic on music. It is a compressor, an expander, and a gate all in one. It has some EQ built in, or you can loop your EQ through it through a side-chain. Looping an EQ allows you to adjust those frequencies that are overpowering to prevent the compressor from dropping the level of everything if one frequency gets too high. Pretty simple to use and there are several buttons and knobs to let you adjust all your settings (attack/release/threshold, etc.) There is also an Auto button that lets the Composer decide what the attack/release times are based on the music that you are playing. This thing can be used as a gate with the push of a button, or it can be adjusted to be a soft or hard compressor. I use it on Auto mode, and it works great. This was definitely a great buy, and my whole band agrees that we sound much better now, oh - and since we can crank the volume now without damaging everything we got - very much LOUDER!

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

We play multiple venues from outside festivals to smaller bars. We have some serious power and 3 different speaker set ups from bi-amped EV's to double 15 JBL's. Our problem was getting a tighter sound when everthing was miked. A band memeber bought this and it was up to me to make it work. The first time out I threw it in the rack off the mains and set it to auto. Bang, instant improvement with no adjustmen. Since then we have fine tuned it and got further improvement. It is the lowest cost piece in the rack and I wouldn't be without it now. Don't let the low price fool you. Behringer has made a price believer out of me.

Very happy with the MDX2600...not only works as its suppose to, it simply adds to a better overall sound on my recordings. I have a 31 band equalizer in line after the composer and there is new life to my songs. I never used compressors or a limiter before so this is nice along with the added Desser.....Bassman

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

When I first got the unit, it was working great. I bought this to use as part of a church sound system. The first time we used it in a live worship band setting, one of the channels went out and caused a bad "Zipper" sound. When it was working, it was great, however, when it wasn't, caused some serious issues.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

We had two of these at the church when I started working there. One of them was noisy and one of the channels went dead so I had to stop using it. The other one is so noisy that I will be replacing it soon. The features it has are nice, and depending on what you are using it for it can function well. However, it is noisy and will not last forever.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

Feature:It has an AUTO function for the attack and release functions that works very well and eliminates unnecessary knob twisting.Quality:For the money, this is a good value. I like how the power supply is built in which means no wall-wart PSU. The dancing LEDs are beautiful when in use. The lights are not just for show either. There are lights that show when the expander/gate, compression interactive knee, de-esser, and peak limiter are active. The more the lights dance, the better you have it dialed in. The LEDs in the switches are bright, maybe too bright, because some light leaks into the switches that are off and not supposed to be lit.Value:I think this unit is an EXCEPTIONAL value.Sound:Using the Interactive Knee feature, this thing is invisible!Support:So many languages! If this is your first experience with a dynamics processer, you may be a bit overwhelmed at first. The manual is bare minimum.Overall:I bought this unit for recording/broadcasting so I could use my Alesis Nanocompressor elsewhere. It has met my expectations 110%. If I could change one thing, I would have phono-plugs for the input/output instead of the 1/4" jacks. Maybe that's an engineering decision Behringer made because there is another market out there that would be upset without them.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

I purchased this unit because I needed an additional stereo gate/compressor and honestly it was cheap.Like the title says this is classic behringer, cram as much as possible on one unit and make it affordable. In all reality the quality suffers for it but if you're in the market for a really cheap one (but don't expect too much) your choices are this unit or the Alesis 363 if you have some compressor experience go for the Alesis, if you need all the help you can get buy this unit.If you have a little bit more money the next step up would be the DBX 266xl (and even further up DBX 166xl)You get what you pay for.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

This is a strait forward, fast fuction compressor. I like that this compressor is not condesending like some of the lower end stuff from the name brands. anything with a button for "type" or compressors that have very few controls are garbage; they are basicly saying "don't you want our signiture sound? We know how to use a compressor and you don't." The only thing this compressor really lacks is an adjustable knee knob. the button is ok but it would be better to have some control over it which will limit the style of compression. I really do like it as a bus compressor though.

Comments about Behringer MDX2600 Composer Pro-XL Compressor:

I've used many different compressors over time in my studio. The behringer 2600 pro has the most features at the absolute lowest price I've seen on simular products with the same number of features in it's line. I own four and run two of them after the Behringer mic 2200 tube pre to mic acoustics all the way up to Randall XLT cabs. One very suprising feature, which I didn't think I'd ever use, is the TUBE button. I was wrong, it adds some really nice upper harmonics that work well to brighten muddy and warm cabs in the studio. Hats off to Behringer, I'll be looking into more of their products to try in the future.
