I bought 2, so I have 8! :D These things are great. The gates & limiters alone are worth the money. The comp is very intuitive. Threshold and ratio are the only things you really need to control for MANY applications. I am using them for all of my vocals, kick & snare, and the guitar and bass mics. AWESOME!I sent Beringer an email asking how to run this comp through my board using the sub-groups. they responded with a great answer within 8 hours. It's nice to know the support is there if needed. Documentation could be better. They try to use the same manual for 3 comps, and it just doesn't work well. In fact there is no explanation of the dynamic enhancer at all for the 4600. But the product is solid for live and/or studio applications

We bought 2 Behringer Multicom PRO-XL units for our project studio, trying to save a little money. They have never been used on the road, but they did not last. 2 channels have died in each unit, so they actually ended up costing us much more. We also have much older dbx and Alesis compressors that HAVE been on the road, and they are still cooking. For good performance at not-a-lot-more expense, I would recommend a pair of Alesis 3630s over one of these. You'll save in the long run!

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

I have had the DMS 4600 compressor for 3 weeks and have use it so far for recordings. I recorded the same song twice, once without using the compressor and once with the compressor. I have a 4 track digital Fostex recorded with built in CD. I recorded with electric guitar bass keyboard and vocal. The compressor did its job making the sounds from the final CD crisper, full and well balanced. Good job Behringer

    Behringer 4 channel multigate

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

The lights would not work on all channels. Channel 2 was bad and you could feel resistance when you turned the knobs. Sent it back. MF was very nice over the phone.

    tough to beat

    By steve field

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

If you need to do some signal squishing get one or two. I have two to compress after an eight channel mic pre.
The multicom is a very handy array of compressors. Even though they aren't full featured, they give you enough dynamic prossessing to cover most applications. I use it mostly for recording but the gates work well for miking drums live.
As with all Beringer gear the controls are a little flimsy and I wouldn't suggest cranking them hard but that said I own quite a few of their products and have never had a problem with moderate care. The great thing is how quiet they are.
Price compressors ( 4 mono or 2 stereo) and it's clear you can't beat the price.

    Does the job nicely

    By pspagnolia

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

I needed a limiter to keep drummers and vocalists with bad mic skills from peaking pre's in live situations and the limiters do this nicely. I'm not using the compressors just the hard limiters and the unit is silent in this situation. No noise added to my system and to be quite honest. I'm recording live bands and need as good a signal coming in as I can get and only 3 or 4 of the 16 mic's get limited as the others simply dont need it...however..for the ones that do, this unit works flawlessly. It's been on 13 sessions thus far and all of them on the road and racked so it's not banged around too much. All channels work ok and no probs. A good value for my uses.

Not bad at all for the price!

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

I have to say that despite some bad reviews this is a pretty good unit. Although I dont think I would record with it, it's very good for live PA situations. My band does a lot of three part harmony stuff and it makes our vocals sound full and balanced. Plus the kick drum is is very punchy at tight. We had one of these for about 2 years and it crapped out so we bought another about a year and a half ago and have had no problems with the new one yet. After our first one took a dump we bought a couple of the cheaper dbx ones and they did not sound as good so we sent them back a got one of this again. We play about 30-40 gigs a year so they get their use.Yeah they are cheap but they sound good for live stuff. If you have the extra cash to throw around then go ahead and buy the high dollar stuff but if you dont than this will do you just fine.

    Behringer compressor rates tops!

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

Bought one of these units about 10 years ago for my live rack and it has performed without incident under heavy touring commitments since that time. Amplified sound has always been superb and I have used this with much other Behringer rack gear for album productions that have been complimented by internationally renowned mastering engineers and studios. Behringer certainly know how to build great gear at amazing prices - I'm about to grab a B2 studio microphone for my own studio as I have found them elsewhere to be superb units also.

    No Problems

    By Till the Dawn

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

I bought our first Multicom Pro-XL MDX4600 almost 2 years ago to compress live vocals. Several weeks ago we added a second one that we are using on a kick drum, drum overheads, and a keyboard. When we lost a singer, we started using the first one on a guitar cabinet. We have had no problems at all with the units and though I am no sound engineer, they seem to do exactly what I want them to do, to keep the channel strips out of the red, and by playing around with the threshhold and trigger controls, I have a great kick drum sound! I am probably going to add a third one soon for another vocal mic (new singer), bass cab, and acoustic guitar DI.There seems to be alot of Behringer bashers out there, but I have had no problems with any of their products. We use a Behringer 24 channel mixer, 4 channel direct box, and a 10 channel mixer for recording, and have never had a problem with any of them. Wish I could say that for all of our equipment!

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

The Behringer Multicom pro-xl mdx4600 is one of the simplest and best compressors I have ever used and it works fine for me.(Note to those who get noisy unusable signals. Make sure the button on the back controlling the input and output level is set correctly otherwise you will get an unusable signal) :). This is simply one of the best products I've used.

    More Junk from Behringer

    By Opus the Cat

    from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Behringer MULTICOM PRO-XL MDX4600 Processor:

I owned this piece of gear and one of the channels is so horribly distorted and noisy that you can't put anything through it, the other three channels are noisy and thin. I've owned several Behringer products due to their low prices when I wanted to build myself an in-home studio. All of their stuff is noisy (from the mixer to the headphone amp) and it's only a short matter of time before something on it breaks. Everything from the cheap knobs and button to the thin and noisy signals you'll get from their products is not worth the low prices unless you couldn't care less how crappy your recordings are and don't mind throwing your money away. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more to get something that works.
