OVERVIEW

Ideal accuracy in close confines!

The Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair have all of the great features of their stablemates in a compact cabinet! This is a high-resolution, active 2-way reference studio monitor that is perfect for near field monitoring applications in small mixing environments or multichannel surround setups. Despite its small size, the B2030A can achieve a peak output level in excess of 113dB SPL. Powered by separate 75W and 35W amplifiers with an active crossover, these monitors provide ultralinear frequency response from 50Hz-21kHz. A long-throw 6.75" woofer with a special polypropylene diaphragm delivers smooth, deep bass, while an extremely high-resolution HF driver reproduces highs that are crystal clear and full of detail. The unique Behringer wave guide and the extremely low-distortion crossover network produce an absolutely linear phase response with excellent sound dispersion and stereo imaging. The B2030A is equipped with servo-balanced inputs on XLR and 1/4" TRS connectors to handle a variety of audio sources. Thanks to its compact size and magnetic shielding, the TRUTH B2130A can be placed near video monitors, computer displays, or digital audio workstations.

Having read all the wonderfull comments about these monitors I decided to give Behringer a chance and judge by myself. I wanted a decent pair of monitors for a low price. And I have to say that I'm satisfied. They sound very good and their features like room compensation, etc, are unusual in this price range and certainly you will appreciate them. I only found one bad, but significant con. When I was tracking a hard rock bass player suddenly a very unpleasant buzz or ringing came out of both monitors when played low G note, I realized that the buzz was mechanical not the speakers. So I introduced my finger in the small ports next to the driver and the buzz stoped. Thus I knew it was a mechanical resonance in the speaker ports. I decided to remove the speakers and found that the plastic ports are poorly glued to the MDF cabinet. I unmounted them and reglued again with enough silicon seal, let them dry for two days and placed the speakers again in their place, and the sound was better than new!!! I think the german design of this monitors is great but the chinesse manufacture is not the best. If you experience the same and you are handy with tools and screwdrivers you can fix them by yourself and enjoy their great sound.

Best in its price range

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

I did a monitor shootout in December 2007, using these ones, and competitors such as M-Audio, Yorkville, Tapco, KRK, and Event. The 2030A's don't flatter the music (such as lowend multimedia speakers do) but are sounding very natural. I tried them out using Cd's from Kraftwek, Dolly Parton, and a few more well-produced albums - they all responded eally well. There _was_ a noticeable difference when compared to monitors costing USD 3000, but in the price range, there's simply no competition. Let me spare you the (admittedly fun) hassle of trying our monitors yourself and go for these ones.

Very Surprising

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

I bought a pair of these from a local store. They sounded "OK" at best on the floor. They were significantly better when I brought them home. I have used a pair of $800 Mackies in the main studio and I can get the same quality mix out of a pair of these, although could just be a trained ear, for hundreds less. The only downfall is I think they could have done a little better with their low frequency response.

Solid Value

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

To start with, it's quite obvious that you are getting quite a good product for such little money. Build quality is very sturdy, and they should be very reliable for a long time as long as you treat them right. What's nice about the amps is that they come with torroidal transformers, which helps keep things from getting to muddy in the low-mids as you crank them. Soundwise, they aren't up to the standards of Genelecs, Adams, or evn the Tannoys....but for sound designing and editing for films/tv (which is what I do), they provide everything you will ever need. The sound is plenty clear and clean, with excellent stereo imaging and good headroom. At normal tone settings, they are a bit bright because of the titanium tweeters, but for specific sound designs, this helps you hear some of the subtleties in your sounds/effects. I would suggest eq-ing down the highs a tad for prolonged music listening. Both balanced XLR and bal/unb 1/4" inputs allows versatile connections, and the cabinet is robust enough not to let resonances get in the way of the sound. I heard no chuffing or turbulence through the lateral front ports on bass-heavy material. As for the low-end...there are those who say that these don't produce anything below 80-100Hz. I did a lot of test-tone level readings in a fairly anechoic space and got good readings down to 60Hz, with a drop of about 3-5dB at that point. Still could use a subwoofer, but you don't need to set a crossover any higher than 70-80hZ, and you'll still get good low-end transients.Basically....these are very good reference monitors at an insanely good price. They are no-brainers when it comes to small- to mid-sized video/film editing systems, where the majority of your budget is put into video equip., and some folks still use those 40-watt-sub-and-3" speaker-sattelite set-ups (!!). If anything else, they would be a very respectable budget monitor while saving up for something like the above-mentioned industry leaders. They are not small/light speakers by any means (again...that big transformer), so you'll some desk space or stands. The Auralex MoPads do help tighten the sound, too.My only real gripe is tha there is a substantial pop when turning the monitors on...whether from a power strup/conditoiner or the actual power swithes on the monitor. The 'clip' led's come on for a split-second when you turn them on, but this is no different from a lot of older power-amps. I guess soft/delay-startup amps are a bit too much to ask for at this price range. Luckily, there's no excessive cone excursion on power-up, sand no ill-effects that I can determine, o it seems to be normal. Magnetic shielding is excellent (right next to a CRT video monitor), and the only stray noise that comes into play are...strangely...when a cel phone rings somewhere close to them.If you can afford Mackie's or Tannoys, then by all means get them. But if you're budgeting out an entire system, or part of one, these should be high on your list. If I were outfitting an facility with multiple systems, again, these would be a top choice because of their price and quality.

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

I was a bit aprehensive about buying these since I'd read a couple of reviews that were less than flattering. After having used them for a few weeks I have to say, they're great! They have a very smooth response curve to my ear, and they have an enormous amount of power. They're intended as near fields I guess, but can easily be used as mains. Plus, they make great stereo speakers for a home system on the cheap.Ten stars!

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

I couldn't bring my old (junk) speakers or powered mixer with me when I moved, so I bought these and I am very pleased with them.Together they take up about as much room on my desk as my computer monitor. They are heavy, they feel solid, the connections feel good.I get no hiss when there's no sound. I have noticed however a slight crackle at some frequency but I wasn't sure if it was the recording or the speaker. I also don't like that the monitors pop when I turn them on.I don't really know what to expect as far as features go, but a trim for the input and the xlr and 1/4 inputs are all I need. I have to have them pointed at my ears to get a good mix, so I suspect that's why some people have complained about the bass lacking. Sorry if that sounds obvious but I can't think of another reason. For the price, I'm very happy with them.

I have had these monitors for 3 years. I run a Digital Audio Workstation with my PC. I have an Edirol UA-1000 hooked up to my PC, and I run my Roland V-drums, Vox Tone Lab, Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro, M-Audio Midi Keyboard through the Edirol and then to my monitors. I have never had a problem with them and they sound great! If you are looking to build a small home recording studio on a budget, then these monitors are absolutely perfect!

Great Buy

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

I bought these at Guitar Center about two weeks ago. I'm using the balanced XLR connectors to my Firepod and have had zero problems with any type of interference. For me, the "mid" clarity that I have seen in some of the reviews is a bit excessive, but you just have to adjust to it. The bass response is great, and truth be told, I'm hearing things that I haven't heard before. These are well made, great sounding monitors...in this price range, you're going to have to make some adjustments, but just use your ears and you'll find out that this is a great deal!

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

I just purchased a pair of these about a week ago, received them yesterday and hooked them up after taking my JBL 4208's down. I am very impressed with these. I have worked quite a bit with the Genelec and Tannoys and these monitors are definitely in their league of reference monitoring. Very natural. I have also heard several different Mackie models and have not been even nearly as impressed with those as the Genelec, Tannoys or these Behringers. I've only heard one set of Mackies that I liked and they are way over priced. The Genelec and Tannoys areR excellent as well, but I can't get past the price of the Behringers b2030A's or the B2031A's. These sound every bit as good as the others and the price is much more friendly. They are also built very well and look like they could last quite a while. They got a little weight to them. I hope that Behringer keeps this kind of product coming. It's definitely turning my head.

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

I didn't know what to expect from these monitors considering the low price. I was really settling because they were in my price range at the time and were the size and look I wanted. From the moment I pulled them Out the box. I got the feeling that I had stumbled on to something. Nice wood Cabinets BiAmp heavy and Solid to the touch. Many features to adjust for various room size conditions and They Sounded Great when I got them Up and running. Couldn't believe what was happening really. In fact Over the Five years I've had my studio. The only Consistently reliable things in there have been These monitors. Have Nt failed me yet and they Have clearly been Under the most pressure throughout the time.

Great Monitors

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

In one of my digital audio/recording classes at UVU last semester, we had a "monitor off". Someone brought in a set of Mackie HR824's some JBL's and a set of these Behringers. We played all sorts of music through them. I have to say, the Behringer Truths sounded great! They are less then 1/4 of the price of the Mackies, and they are almost identical. The JBL's were the best, but they cost about $1,300.00 a pop, so yeah.

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2030A Active Monitors - Pair:

From what I've seen and heard, you can't get a better monitor for this price. Sound quality rivals monitors in the $ each range. A definite essential to any home recording studio. Frequencey response is totally flat from 50hz to 21khz. I can't hear any distortion at loud volumes or at whisper quiet volumes. All around, the best bang for the buck.
