OVERVIEW

An affordable high-resolution, active 2-way reference studio monitor.

Behringer makes TRUTH B2031A Reference Monitors to speak nothing but the TRUTH. When it comes to your studio recordings, you want honesty. In fact, considering how important your art is, you should demand it! Oh, they still sound great hooked up to your stereo or your video surround system, but they were really built with the studio in mind—where every note you play or sing is "under the microscope."

Built on the Behringer Legacy
Behringer TRUTH B2031A audio monitors have been so wildly successful that they've sold thousands upon thousands of them to some of the most critical ears on the planet. Due to their high-resolution performance, B2031A active 2-way reference studio monitors are perfect for nearfield monitoring applications: from small mixing environments to multi-channel surround setups.

Ultra-Linear Frequency Response
The TRUTH B2031A is a serious contender capable of achieving output levels in excess of 116 dB SPL. Powered by separate 80- and 25-Watt built-in amplifiers with an active crossover, these monitors provide ultra-linear frequency response from 50 Hz to 21 kHz.

Behringer Calls it a Speaker Graduation Diploma
After final assembly, each B2031A spends up to a half hour with a Calibration Engineer being meticulously tweaked to ensure ultra-linear frequency response.

When you buy a TRUTH B2031A monitor, you're truly getting a hand-calibrated unit. Behringer ship a calibration certificate with each B2031A that shows the actual frequency response of your monitor, as tested at the time of manufacture.
After all these rigorous tests, only then is the speaker granted its own Graduation Diploma.

Rock-Solid Bass
Bookshelf-style home stereo speakers can really fool you when it comes to bass output, mainly because they are not designed for critical listening applications. That's why recording engineers and producers listen to projects through studio reference monitors or studio-grade headphones. The B2031A's long-throw 8.75" polypropylene-diaphragm woofer delivers smooth, deep bass all the way down to 50 Hz. Bass content that isn't exaggerated, as it can be in home speaker systems. Rock-solid bass that is an honest representation of the recorded sound, full of subtle nuance; the sound of fingers on the strings, or the rush of air through the long pipes of a cathedral organ, etc.

Non-Fatiguing, Wide "Sweet Spot"
B2031A's HF (High Frequency) content comes courtesy of an ultra high-resolution 1.0" ferrofluid-cooled tweeter mounted on Behringer's proprietary wave-guide. While some of Behringer's competitor's studio monitors have a highly focused "sweet spot" (the optimal listening position for a pair of loudspeakers), Behringer's wave-guide is designed to create a much more generous, broader listening zone. That means you won't wear a hole in the carpet in that one spot where everything sounds great. You are free to move around inside the stereo image to find the ideal spot in the mix for subtle instrument or effects placement opportunities.

You also won't suffer the ravages of "monitor fatigue-syndrome," an ailment that comes from listening to harsh high-mids and treble content for hours on end, even during those all-night mix-down sessions that can really test your nerves.

Expect the Best
Behringer packs 105-Watts of bi-amped technology (including a time- and phase-optimized active crossover) into every B2031A, ensuring that you have the enormous power reserves you'll need to drive them really hard. The unique BEHRINGER wave-guide and the extremely low-distortion crossover network produce an absolutely linear frequency response with excellent sound dispersion and stereo imaging.

Designed to Work in Your Environment
The ideal environment for listening is a room that is “flat,” neither too reflective (echoes) nor too absorptive (where the sound is muffled). But since all rooms are not the same acoustically, all TRUTH monitors come equipped to function in a wide variety of situations. Switches are provided to adapt the monitor’s low- and high-frequency characteristics for optimal performance specific to your listening environment.

Suited for All Placements
Placement is also critical. Ideally, all loudspeakers should be placed away from walls to ensure proper bass response. But fear not, B2031A monitors feature Room Compensation switches so you can place them against walls, or even in corners. Walls tend to enhance low-frequency content, and corners exaggerate bass even more, but your TRUTH monitor can be custom-tailored to provide honest bass response for your situation, with the simple flick of a switch or two.

Please Standby
Since placement of studio monitors can significantly affect their performance, often they are placed in a manner that makes it inconvenient to get to the power switch on the rear panel. Not to worry, the B2031A provides a simple solution to breaking out the stepladder or climbing onto your desk. The B2031A features an AUTO power switch that, when activated, powers up the system as soon as it detects an input signal. If no signal is detected, the system automatically switches into standby mode after five minutes of silence.

XLR and 1/4" Inputs
The B2031A is equipped with servo-balanced inputs on XLR and º" TRS connectors to handle a variety of audio sources. Thanks to its compact size and magnetic shielding, the TRUTH B2031A can be placed near video monitors, computer displays or digital audio workstations

I have had a pair of these monitors as my go to desktop setup for going on 7 years. I use them for many purposes, although the one I need them to really shine for is sound mixing for independent film production. I have found them to be great for this purpose. I have them routed through an 8 channel Mackie mixer that is connected both directly to my computer as well as through a separate Protools setup. In both cases they work wonderfully. The sound quality is excellent and there is no distortion, noise, hum, or artifacts. The best part is that the response is so incredibly flat. I find that the mids are solid, bass is full and highs are crisp. The sweet spot is good for a desktop setup, but not great if you want to use these for an entertainment center or to dominate a room. You need to be within a few feet of these to get a good balance with the sound. I have mixed several films on these and the mixes have always worked well in a variety of setups, from a home theater to a full size theater. Nothing will work as well for mixing as an in theater mixing studio, but for an incredibly reasonable price these got me awfully close.

When I'm not working, these are just plain wonderful to listen to music on. They sound amazing from jazz to dubstep. The sound is just so amazingly clean. You can hear every nuance in the recording and the instruments. Volume is more than adequate. You could certainly damage your ear drums with these if you weren't paying attention.

I can easily recommend these as some of the best monitors in their price range. I listened to a host of other monitors (including many that were hundreds of dollars more than these) and they were the clear winners for my taste in sound. I was actually stunned that many of the more expensive speakers didn't sound as good. I am not crazy about a lot of Behringer products in general, but these I would buy again in a second. I will be crushed when (and if) these ever die on me.

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2031A Active Monitor (Single):

I love the fact that you don't need a subwoofer with these. Adding a sub to these during the mixing stage will take away from what these things can really do. I even let a producer who has been in the business for twice as long as i have hear one of my mixes and he is now ready to retire his Events for a pair. I read a review where someone pointed out that the 2031as can go as loud as you want them to and I agree. I dare anyone to turn these up to the max and still be able to hear afterwards.
The fact that they adjust and tune to room size and positioning in a room!.. Not to mention been able to tweek the response levels of the low and high frequencies for that perfect sound.. they cover all the basics. A minor improvement would be putting the volume knobs in the front..
I came from roland DM2100s. I admit not the best in the world for mixing but they are great for listening to the final mix afterwards. The clarity in these monitors are crazy. If you can make it sound good on these it will sound good anywhere.
For what they can do. the solid wood box that the speakers sit in. WELL WORTH THE PRICE

Very Very Suprising

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2031A Active Monitor (Single):

You have to buy them.
I went into a local store to test out some monitors in my price range, just to get a feel for what I wanted to buy. I had my eyes on JBL Lsr 2325 monitors, KRK Rokit 5's, and Mackie Mr5Mk2's. I first listened to the Mackie's, they had way too much bass and not a clear treble. the Rokit's were accurate, but there was no power so it was intense listening, the JBL's were accurate as well, just more bassy than the latter. I then listened to the Behringer B2031a's and was blown away, they were the best compared to monitors twice their price range. the sweet spot is huge like they advertise, the power is twice all the other monitors making each sound very accurate and easy to hear. The frequency was unbeleivably flat, even the sales people were impressed. I then wanted to compare these to a higher end model, so I turned on the JBL 4328p monitors, and the Behringer's were suprisingly similar. Of course the JBL's sounded a lot better, more power, and a slightly more defined sound, but in terms of frequency they were both very flat sounding. Behringer's are the best speakers you can get in or above their price category. Buy them and you will be amazed.
Despite what hundreds of reviews say online, I bought these and found them to be very sturdy. The reviews online also are not monitor owners, they are previous owners of mixers and compressors and etc..
Best monitors for your money, without a doubt.

I Love em ! Well I bought a pair when they came out, very impressed in ALL areas. I recently had a sump pump put in the basement, had to move the studio. I put these in the living room, hooked up to a K2000. I goofed around a bit, turned it all off.. I thought.. left one monitor on by mistake.. it has been a couple of months since, I found out today I left one on, yikes ! covered, it was luke warm, and works like a champ, still, lol, I never heard a peep out of it for months ! Sitting there "on", no crackles or pops, I LOVE THESE MONITORS :)

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2031A Active Monitor (Single):

    Overview:

I purchased these speakers when they first came out knowing absolutely nothing about them. In fact, I bought them so long ago that I paid MUCH less for a pair because at the time they were not sold individually. Like many before me, I was a bit reluctant because Behringer can be hit or miss when it comes to quality control Having said that, I have owned a really great 12 channel mixing board they made back in the 1990's that I used to mix old tapes with my Tascam 38 recorder. That board still works perfectly so I decided to take a chance on the speakers. Keep in mind, these babies were virtually untested when I bought them and I figured if they were going to fail it would be within the warranty period.

For the price I wasn't expecting much. I was, however, quite surprised when hearing them for the very first time. The sound quality was very good (not perfect) and they packed one heck of a punch when it came to volume. My recordings sounded great, but there are a few things you need to know in order to achieve your desired result. As with any studio monitors, they have a "sweet-spot". Depending on your studio space you will have to figure out the positioning for maximum performance. Another thing you will have to deal with is bass response. When mixing, you might feel like you have to punch a ton of bass through the monitors to get the sound you want. While the speakers hold up very well under high bass/volume conditions, if you push the low end too hard your master will sound horrible. All you have to do to remedy this situation is run through a few practice mixes and tune your ears to where the desired low end response is.

I have probably owned these since 2000 and they are just starting to show some signs of failing. (They sometimes kick off even with no levels running through them.) I keep turning them back on and after a while I'm good to go.! I think 16 years is acceptable seeing that I gave less than three c-notes for the pair

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2031A Active Monitor (Single):

These monitors are really clean, clear, and crisp - the low end is very sufficient and the high end is nice as well. Only problem is, ordered two of these from Musician's friend, one worked out of the box and one took some work. One wouldn't power on until I had popped the fuse out and popped it back in, and the positive cable running to the tweeter was also disconnected. Pretty simple stuff to troubleshoot, probably came loose during shipping, but still, just expect to plug these in and have them work? These are good monitors for the home-studio.

Don't be fooled by the competitor's prices!

    By Cory

Comments about Behringer TRUTH B2031A Active Monitor (Single):

These monitors are the most VALUBLE pieces of equipment in my setup. They are accurate and full throughout the entire frequency spectrum. I had bought a much more expensive competitor's pair, and was immediately dissatisfied, so they were returned. I had some Behringer mixers and liked their sturdiness and value, so I said, "Why not give their monitors a shot. The other highly acclaimed pair were all low and high end with no midrange." I bought the pair thinking I was going to have to return them. But when I plugged them in, adjusted the many different settings on the back to best desired, I was BLOWN AWAY! These monitors do speak the TRUTH, with a flatness throughout the entire spectrum. I've mixed epic club rap beats, with 40-60hz bass, as well as indie rock music, full or midrange and punchy guitars and bass. These monitors are an extreme value. Don't be fooled into buying something you can't afford, and in the end, not being satisfied. If you're looking to make high quality industry standard mixes, then get these! You won't regret it! I did give the quality a lower mark because one of the monitors I originally bought had an internal buzz when producing certain frequencies. Something had come loose while handling, so I switched it out for a new one after I had decided I loved them. Have had my pair for a year and a half, and have had no further problems. Amazing value!

B2031A's .. actually quite difficult to review !! I have had a pair for a few years now , so here are my thoughts .. ( for what they are worth ) I will try and be very concise .
    ++
    1. the sound is excellent , and very, very (!) loud .. I doubt there is any other budget studio out there that can match sound quality , Db;s for price ..
    (in fact , I know there aren't any ..)
2 . they are suitably heavy !! .. I mean they are literally heavy , it is reassuring .. it counts !!
    3. after many years of use , both mine still work !! ( but see below ..)
    -
    1. after initial purchase one monitor had to be sent back Behringer for repair ... good news is they did it easily and without hassle .;)
    2. then the second one failed !! but it turned olut to be a simple wiring fault , literally the wire fell off the connection .. I just put it back in !
so i am questioning the quality of the wiring/electrics ..
    3. they are very heavy , bass heavy !! , some people may like this however .. some people may not ..
Overall : I think you take a calculated risk with these monitors ...
on the + side they genuinely sound great and are fantastically, superbly loud ..
on the - side , the wiring is not so great .. you may experience a few problems ..
but hey , 116db for this price ?? (after all they are modelled after a much, much , MUCH more expensive monitor .. so for us on a budget , its a Godsend ..)
    ... can't be too fussy ..;))

I have now produced four ep projects on these speakers. They are not over complimentive speakers which is what you want. I have a pair of Tannoys as well but found them to bright and force my mixes to be dull. I also use a sub (Yamaha YST 150) since the bottom end is weak on these speakers. They are not Yamaha NS10 but they are decent for the money and will reflect what most listeners will hear on there personal systems. For this, I give it a great rating. I use Izotope Ozone for mastering with these speakers and they seem to work well with my small studio.

I've had my pair for about five years and they still sound outstanding! That's because I don't abuse them. Delivers accurate respresentation of what has been played/recorded. To be honest, when I told my fellow producer affiliates that I had researched these monitors and was considering purchasing them, they laughed at me. But when I got them and they heard them, their mouths dropped and they all had egg on there faces (not literally of course). Since then, a few of them have considered and purchased these babies and are thoroughly satisfied just as I am! These are definitely a bang for the buck!
