I work for the audio department at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. We own 10 of these DI's and use them HEAVILY (2-4) times per week - year round. I've read some complaints about failure, but in four years, we haven't had a single problem with any of them. One of our reps actually hooked all the DI's he sells to a scope and the Behringer beat out many of the higher priced Whirlwinds and Radials in terms of frequency accuracy (I know that doesn't necessarily translate to fidelity). Now, if your doing a priceless recording and need pristine audio quality, then I'd go with something in a higher price range. But if your doing live work, you really can't beat this DI.

A direct box is one of those pieces of gear you should have to rarely replace. There isn't a whole lot to them electronically to go wrong other than cheap switches and bad contacts. I work as a live sound engineer for a local city in a couple of facilities in addition to doing freelance studio recording and I have lost all confidence in this product. We have 4 of these boxes and one stereo radial direct box and just recently I did a sound setup with 2 keyboards, and 2 drum triggers. I had to use 2 of these for the triggers and neither one worked. I switched the boxes around so the radial was on the triggers and it worked perfect. These direct boxes tend to be incredibly picky of the cable you use to feed it. If it does actually work you have a 50/50 chance of it sounding distorted. Invest a little bit more money and get a direct box you can count on for the rest of your career. Buy Radial.

Great DI for the money!

By bigcam_us

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

The Behringer Ultra ? DI 100 is hard to beat for the money. The professional multi-purpose features are great! And yes it does have gold plated XLR and ? connectors. I play 5 string bass, and no problems on the low B or in the 7th position with runs and licks up into the cutout. Soundmen are just awed at it performance. It?s as rugged as the high dollar units. Actual these DI?s have lasted longer for me since the high-end units seem to grow legs and walk away. The high-end units don?t have anything over this unit. I still have my 1st Ultra DI 100 in service and it was purchased in 04/2006. Just bought the 2nd one a year ago to make switching rigs at gigs easier.

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

Great features and price, but using it every now and then at church, it broke within 3 years--it distorts whether on phantom or battery power.

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

Had trouble with a passive DI getting enough bass signal to FOH. Bought this and the thump was back. Do not need the battery with phantom power.

    Good sound, but not durable

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

I use 4 of these DI's as sound tech in a large church. I also use other brand DI's. I like the Behringer prices and features, but two of the four Behringers have quit working with phantom power. Since they are less than 2 years old, I don't feel that we've really got our money's worth, even though they are less expensive than some DI's. On the positive side, electic/acoustic guitars really sound good using this DI box. I suggest Behringer put a little more effort into quality control and durability. They have some great products, but they don't have a good reputation for durability, in my opinion. I have other Behringer equipment as well.

    Great for limited useage

    By SarahS

    from Litchfield, MN

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

Initially, I really liked this product. It had some great features and wonderful external durability. The greatest drawback was the battery. If you don't physically turn it off, it will drain your battery before your next concert/practice. The other problem was that the wires for the 9-volt connection head eventually broke off and we had to replace the connection. We have had this direct box for two years.

Quiet. Intuitive. Noise floor is awesome

    By 16xx24xx

    from Lake Oswego, OR

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

I used phantom power to power this unit and it sounded awesome. Very low noise and hiss. Added alot of punch to this bass track I was laying. I used to go direct into the recorder with the bass but now I use this brand of direct box (chose them because they were cheapest and I could always return it) The bass recordings are, no joke, 10x better. It went from blah low-punch, low-response to BOOM - sounded just like the bass from the Billy Idol mix of Mony, Mony. THAT bass exactly. I was very impressed. Matter of fact, it's plugged in right now...

Great DI box for small bucks!`

    By jmikek

    from GA

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

I have had this DI box for about 2 months now, and have used it in several shows. It does a great job and holds up very well. To tell you the truth, it surprised me how clear and powerful this thing is. I would recommend it to anyone. It has worked for an electric, acoustic, and a bass and hasn't given me a reason to complain yet!

    weekly worker

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

Mine does weekly duty in a live setting, I've used it for a year and a half now, and no glitches. It might be different if I were traveling or had to use batteries, but in a stationary placement, no kicking around, and run with phantom power it has shined every equivalent-priced box. It even pulled our bass player away from his trusty whirlwind. Mine is used exclusively for a Gibson CL-40 with a passive pickup run through a fishman preamp, a boss chorus, and a boss delay/echo box. For that application, the DI has been basically transparent, clean, and trouble-free.

    Every studio should have one

    By Josh-igWhx

    from Fort Collins, CO

Comments about Behringer ULTRA-DI DI100 Direct Box:

This is an indespensible tool. For recording I use it to DI my bass, which I mix with a mic on the cab, so I can get just the sound I want. For tracking drums I use this for guitar or bass to plug straight in and play along with the drummer.
