OVERVIEW

12 Inputs, and a USB audio interface with built-in FX.

The Behringer XENYX QX1202USB mixer is made to handle live gigs, and provide you with the tools necessary to capture professional-quality recordings. Along with its built-in USB/audio interface, "one-knob" mono channel compressors and KLARK TEKNIK FX engines, the XENYX QX1202USB mixer comes with enough recording and editing software to turn your computer into a complete recording studio. The largest of the XENYX Q Series, The XENYX QX1202USB is built for versatility and tone, and is equally at home at your live gig or in the studio. This compact mixer provides 4 mono channels with phantom-powered XENYX mic preamps, neo-classic 3-band British-style EQ, plus 4 stereo channels.

KLARK TEKNIK FX
Nothing adds the finishing touch to a live or recorded performance like really good effects. Designed by the world-renowned KLARK TEKNIK engineering team, these high-end FX processors feature 32 studio-grade presets with dual addressable parameters, Tap function and storable user parameter settings. Complete with its own dedicated level meter, these effects provide a wide range of enhancement options, from sweet and mild to absolutely wild!

XENYX Mic Preamps
All XENYX mixers have one thing in common; great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. XENYX preamps offer 130dB of dynamic range with a bandwidth that extends from below 10Hz to well above 200kHz. As a result, XENYX mixers can reproduce a cleaner, transparent performance.

British EQ
The British consoles of the 1960s and ˜70s changed the sound of rock and roll. Without them, the British Invasion might not have even happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQs on all XENYX mixers are based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to saturate signals with warmth and character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit forgiveness and superb audio quality.

USB Audio Interface
Modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. But how do you get all that music flying around your brain into a computer? Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable. Now any signal source connected to the mixer can be recorded straight to your hard drive.

Included Software
Behringer has put together a massive software download that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). You're ready to go live on your PC or Mac right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio.

First, the bad. This has got the worst power supply connecter I have ever seen! The plug is identical to an S-VHS plug. It is incredibly fragile, difficult to align in the dark, and does not fit tight, allowing it to wobble in the socket causing the power to cut in and out if the mixer is moved.

Even if you take exceptional care of your equipment, I can't see this connector lasting very long. Especially since you have to unplug it to power down the mixer, because there is no on/off power switch.

Come on Behringer! Surely you could do better than this? This would have gotten 5 stars if not for the power cord.

That said, this is a great sounding, well laid out little mixer for very short money.

I do an acoustic solo act, playing 6 and 12 string guitar. The sound through this mixer is extremely clean, the reverb sounds good, the EQ does what it should, and the compressors! Wow! The 4 onboard compressors! They fatten up the sound without turning it to mud. Sonicly this mixer is a solid 10 out of 10!

I normally run JBL Eons for mains, but have a pair of small Altec powered stage monitors with a 6 inch and a horn. I was too lazy to lug a JBL in, so I tried it out with an Altec. The sound just blew me away! Clean, smooth, and punchy! Can't wait to hook up the JBLs, although the Altec sounded so good I may use them as mains on smaller gigs!

Haven't tried recording through it yet. When I record gigs I run splitters to a Tascam US 1800 and record everything to seperate tracks through Pro Tools, so it may be a while before I try it. It's nice to have, but wasn't really a consideration in my purchase decision

How the power cord survives gigging remains to be seen, though. That is the Achille's Heel of this otherwise perfect mixer.

I bought this mixer because I needed something inexpensive to run my POD HD500x into and my acoustic and mic setup. The mixer would be used to have better control over the sound/volume going to the active speakers.

I like the mixer just fine. It's effects sound good and are plenty.

The one thing, and IMO it's a major thing, that I am so disappointed with is that where the power supply plugs into the mixer, it uses a "S -Video" type connection. Yeah. I aint kiddin. It looks just like the old S - Video plug. The plug is loose in it's socket and breaks contact - and sends pops to my speakers - every time I've bumped it. I'm debating sending it back or coming up with a work around. I hate sending stuff back unless it's just downright false advertising junk as gold.

It's not the case with the mixer. Other than the power adapter issue I'm satisfied with it.

You are getting what you pay for however. It's limited in it's audio sending ability. If you want separate controls for head phones and control room this don't do it.

I do like it's USB to my laptop where it will send and receive sound from it. This saves me having to run 1/8" from my laptop into the mixer and still allows me to transfer the audio recordings from my multi-track through the mixer into my laptop where I just hit record on Audacity. Like this I can use the mixer and the multi-track to adjust parameters in real time instead of having to do a mix down. Of course I get a quiet hiss when using Audacity but it's no issue just uploading to soundcloud or something. Not trying to pass this stuff on to David Geffen or anyone haha.

Comments about Behringer Xenyx QX1202USB Mixer:

First I have to say this model (QX1202USB) is a nice and powerful tool but there is a major issue the associated manuals do not address and it is a HUGE DRAWBACK when recording/playback via the USB to your DAW. The issue is - I could not hear via the headphone jack the previously recorded track and a new track being recorded at the same time. When using the corresponding buttons you can either listen to the previously recorded track (turns off the record send) or turns off the previously recorded playback. After contacting Behringer USA and talking to a very knowledgeable service rep (Sam) I was very disappointed. Sam confirmed my plight that this model WILL NOT allow you to listen via the headphones to a previously recorded track from your DAW while recording and expecting to hear the new recording track at the same time. Sam explained the only way to accomplish this (to hear both tracks simultaneously) was to use powered speakers through either the main mix out or the control room out (not headphones) which defeats several issues in quality recording and adds to the recorded latency effect. Sam assured me that the more expensive model (QX1204USB) would correct this deficiency as both the previously recorded track and the track being recorded at the same time could be heard in the headphones simultaneously w/o having to connect powered speakers/monitors as the mixer had additional buttons (see QX1204USB pictures) that allowed the controlled mix via the bidirectional USB to push the previously recorded track and the current track being recorded to the headphones. Problem solved, minus the additional cost for this feature and the additional return charges. I contacted Musician's Friend and they took care of the exchange so in the morning the QX1202USB is going back and the QX1204USB will be here in a few weeks (I hope - may be on back order).

This is an excellent buy, especially considering the price!
The in-line compression works well, and it is plug and play with windows 7!(not sure of other OSs)

The only problem I have is that the power connector seems kind of loose, and so you need to make sure that it is plugged in the whole way or else you get nasty noise.

The sound quality is absolutely top-notch, with next to no white noise. And with someone speaking, you don't notice the noise at all.

      This gets my thumbs up!
