Comments about Behringer XENYX XL1600 Live Mixer:

I bought the xl1600 - BIG MISTAKE! The board was great out of the box and I came to the conclusion that no one with good experiences rate things - just the ones with problems, which is what the Behringer enthusiast said.
Like others, after a few months I started having channel problems. Behringer folks were great to talk to on the phone, but after sending the board in for repairs three times I decided it was time to count my losses and cut loose. I live in a rural area, so it meant shipping the thing into a service center each time. It ran around $50/pop. The last time it went to Behringer who either repaired or replaced it - I never found out which. When I would get it back it would work for while , then the same problems, just different channels. I finally had it long enough that the warranty ran out anyway. I ended up selling it on Craigslist for parts.
I could have bought an Allen and Heath Zed or several other quality mixers for that kind of money without the headaches, time without the board and fear that it would make it that it would make it through the show.

Don't ignore or minimize the bad reviews. I did and it cost me dearly. Maybe other stuff Behringer makes is okay, but this board is not one of them. What I read over and over about Behringer is that if you can get a product that consistently works, it is a good value for the money. But it seems that a lot of people out there are basically saying, it's cheap - take your chances - but don't be surprized when it fails.
The multitude of features are irrelevant since this board won't consistently work
1 is actually too high - a zero needs to be an option
IF the thing worked, it would be a great value.

2nd one is down

Comments about Behringer XENYX XL1600 Live Mixer:

This is an update from my review in March 2010. With all the problems I had with my first board, Behringer replaced it with a new one. Had the second (new) board for about a month and one of the channels died, never to return again. Just worked around it but last week my left main out died. Contacted Behringer and they are having me take it in to have checked out. The service folks are great but it is really trying my patience now. Each time I have to take this board to the company they recommend, I have to drive 1.5 hours plus pay a $20 toll. Love Behringer but hate this board. Would love to just get my money back an buy something I can rely on. Would not recommend anyone buying one of these boards until all the bugs are worked out.

Channels go out

Comments about Behringer XENYX XL1600 Live Mixer:

I love this board - when it works. The first one had channel problems. They would work, then wouldn't work - then work again. Drove me nuts. Behringer replaced it, however the replacement had obviously been taken apart. When I pointed this out I was told it was so they could do "enhancements". Well, now one channel is flat gone. The first board lasted almost a year - this one lasted about 4 months.

channel problems

Comments about Behringer XENYX XL1600 Live Mixer:

Only had this board about 3 months. Love Behinger and never had a problem but in this case I've been disappointed. In short time I've had it I've had problems with 3 channels, like they have a mind of their own. They'll just stop working. Took it to the place recommended by Behinger and they couldn't duplicate the problem. Got it back and started having the same problem with two of the channels I had before I took it in for repair. I've talked to the techs and they say I have a definite problem and to bring it back to them. This will be my second trip to take for repairs. I'm very worried when we play out now cause I'm always wondering it any of the channels will die during the gig.

Lots of features!

Comments about Behringer XENYX XL1600 Live Mixer:

Behringer XENYX XL1600 - I run a live music venue usually with 1-4 in each act. My other (last board) was a Behringer UB1832fx. I always received compliments even with that board. I run good mics - Shure 87c, Beta 57a, Beta 58a, KSM109 and that helps a lot.The XL1600 is a significant upgrade. I have had two musicians tell me that they have not thought much of Behringer mixers, but after playing through mine said their opinion - at least for this board, changed. It is packed with features. The preamps sound very nice - I don't really touch the EQ on mics unless the musician wants something other than a very natural sound. 12 actual channels with xlr inputs - full EQ on 8, 4 without high mid and low mid frequency adjustment (these 4 a stereo channels). 2 monitor mixes, 4 aux (2 set up as FX - but no FX onboard) 4 groups, 2 headphones, dedicated talkback xlr, individual channel control for phantom power. It just goes on and on. You have lots of possibiliies.Behringer DOCUMENTATION IS TERRIBLE! I own a lot of Behringer products and I haven't seen a good manual with anything I own. On the other hand, telephone tech support is free and they welcome your questions. Their documentation assumes you already know how to use all the features of the equipment. As a self-taught amateur, more explanation would mean a lot.I have not regretted this purchase and would replace with the same if something happened to mine.
