OVERVIEW

Now you and your audience can enjoy the same sterling, high-definition sound!

The L1 Model I Single System/Dual Bass Package includes one Bose L1 Model I Cylindrical Radiator Speaker, one Bose L1 Model I Power Stand, and one Bose B1 Bass Module.

Hear the same quality sound your audience hears with the award-winning L1 Model I system. Based on over 10 years of groundbreaking Bose research, this all-in-one amplification system features the unique Cylindrical Radiator loudspeaker. Its proprietary, vertical design helps fill the room with clear sound like no ordinary speaker can.

Wide, uniform coverage--throughout the room

The innovative Cylindrical Radiator loudspeaker has a line array of 24 small drivers mounted into a vertical enclosure for wide, horizontal sound coverage. In comparison to a conventional speaker, volume and tone diminish very slowly over distance.

The loudspeaker's wedge-shaped dispersion pattern sends very little audio up or down, preventing much of the room reverberation that can muddy your sound.

In contrast to a conventional setup, an L1 system lets you, your fellow musicians and the audience hear the same sound. You don't need any other stage monitors, mixers or PA speakers. Your L1 system replaces them all with one sleek, powerful setup.

Built-in amplifiers, mixer and ToneMatch presets

The L1 Model I power stand includes built-in amplifiers to drive the loudspeaker and up to two B1 bass modules. It also has an integrated four-channel mixer with two XLR and two line-level inputs.

Onboard ToneMatch Presets--another Bose exclusive--let you quickly optimize the tone of up to 100 specific instruments and microphones, at the touch of a button. For more inputs and a suite of effects and tone-shaping tools, add the optional T1 ToneMatch audio engine.

L1 Model I Cylindrical Radiator Speaker

The L1 Model I Cylindrical Radiator Speaker is an integral component of the from Bose L1 Model 1 system. The unique Cylindrical Radiator loudspeaker comes in two sections and has a line array of 24 small drivers mounted into a vertical enclosure for wide, horizontal sound coverage. This proprietary design helps fill the room with clear sound like no ordinary speaker can. In comparison to a conventional speaker, volume and tone diminish very slowly over distance.

The loudspeaker's wedge-shaped dispersion pattern sends little sound to the floors, upper walls and ceilings, minimizing room reverberation and increasing clarity. In contrast to a conventional setup, the L1 system lets you, your fellow musicians and the audience hear the same sound. You don't need any other stage monitors, mixers or PA speakers. The L1 system replaces them all with one sleek, powerful setup.

The L1 Cylindrical Radiator loudspeaker features a two-piece, interlocking design for quick and easy transport, setup and breakdown. Each section of loudspeaker is 43 1/2" (1.1 m) high. It includes an interlocking bayonet with center and bottom latches.

L1 Model I Power Stand

As well as being the mechanical support for the Bose L1 Cylidrical Radiator loudspeaker, the Bose Model I Power Stand houses the amplifier and mixer for the 4-channel system L1 system. This innovative system eliminates the need for conventional monitors, mixers, and PA speakers. It is the ultimate in fidelity and is extremely lightweight and portable. Features of the PS1 Power stand include:

Integrated power amplifiers:

Provide clean, precise amplification for L1 Model I loudspeaker and up to two B1 bass modules. Musicians can play soft or loud with confidence the system will accurately amplify their performance.

Four-channel mixer:

Primary mic/line input channels 1 and 2 accept XLR and 1/4" TRS connections; they feature ultra-low noise preamps, two-stage clip lights, trim controls and XLR line-out channels. Secondary input channels 3 and 4 accept 1/4" unbalanced line-level sources like keyboards, sequencers, mixers and MP3 players.

ToneMatch presets:

Proprietary ToneMatch presets optimize L1 system to match intended natural sound of specific instruments and microphones on channels 1 and 2. Select presets independently for these channels using pushbutton controls.

Channel inserts/effects loops:

Connect channels 1 and 2 to external effects and processors via 1/4" TRS line input/output connections. Use a stereo plug to connect the send and return signals with one cord.

Bass module out:

Delivers amplified bass output signal to one or two B1 bass modules. L1 system automatically adjusts equalization appropriately when bass modules are connected.

Bass line out:

Post-DSP bass signal output. Accepts 1/4" TRS phone cable. Use to connect PackLite amplifier with up to two additional bass modules. Can also be used to connect powered subwoofer or additional amplification system.

Digital data out:

Send digital mix of channels 1 and 2 to external recording gear at 48KHz sample rate.

Digital data in:

Update product software and ToneMatch presets via this digital input connector.

R1 remote input:

Seven-pin connection works with R1 remote control.

B1 Bass Module

The Bose B1 Bass Module works seamlessly with the L1 Model I PA System to deliver the low-frequency impact you want through 2 high-output, high-excursion 6-1/2" drivers. It produces deep, strong bass for keyboards, kick drum, bass guitar, and other instruments that play in the baritone/bass range. We are a three (sometimes 4) piece acoustic band consisting of guitar, keyboard, bass and percussion. We cover a variety of styles, from rock and country to jazz and blues. We describe our style as sexy eclectic acoustic electric, and its always a hit with the more sophisticated adult audiences. Because of the Bose, we are self-contained, traveling with our own sound system and taking up a relatively small space. We run 4 vocal mics and a cajon mic through a Proel mixer, along with the keyboard and acoustic guitars (run through a Zoom A2.1u DI/tuner/effects pedal). We could probably run the bass guitar through the Bose as well, but we choose to amp that separately. We've used the Bose indoors and out, in a wide variety of venues, and we love it. It's perfect for our clean, pure sound. We don't use any effects on vocals, and only some simple ones on the guitar for some songs. I've listened to the keyboard and lead vocal doing a song or two while I walk down the street or across the park or to the far end of the bar, and all I hear are good, clean, clear sounds.
We haul this thing around every weekend, use it for rehearsals and even loan it out occassionally and we never have to worry about it. It's well-built, rugged and solid. High quality, as you would expect from Bose.
Every week we say 'worth every penny we paid for it' and it paid for itself by allowing us to get gigs we might not have otherwise been able to play. And it makes us sound good.

I have been a working Blues musician for over 30 years. I have read alot about the Bose system for awhile now. I play guitar and sing in a Blues Duo. Guitar & Harmonica. Two vocals and Stompboard. I tried the L1 w/bass module without the T1 tone engine. I found that immediately I needed the tone engine for reverb. The sound seems very good and I am happy with that. I found the system to be much more bulky and ackward for travel. We are very careful with our equipment, but the soft cases are not very protective against dents, etc. The input layout of the system is not well thought out in my opinon. XLR's for just two of four inputs??? It seems that Bose designed with consumer electronics in mind, not the working musician. The cost of the equipment is way too high. After hearing the system without tone engine, I had to purchase an additional tone engine and additional power supply as it requires external power supply to operate w/model 1, to get sound I need on stage. I feel this should have been included. As for durability time will tell as there seems to be definate weak spots. Again, system seems to be designed for the home consumer and maybe not the working musician.

None Better

By Thom-2_1O.

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I have owned this unit for about a year. I do 12 gigs a month at a minimum.Set up and tear down is a piece of cake. The sound quality is first rate. Don't expect it to cover up bad vocals or music, what you put in is what comes out. I have played rooms with a few people up to a few hundred with no coverage problems. I am a solo act with backing tracks. I have never had a feedback problem. I have used JBL and Yamaha, Bose is by far the best.

overpriced

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

the speakers sound awefull the more you turn them up and they clip frequently but there is no indicator. the highs are muddy and the bass unit only works for high bass. they engineered the sound to echo in any room and make it sound different but it ruins it. there is also a built in eq made to "improve" the sound for the speaker but it actually makes it worse. the 3 band eq remote allows very little adjustments.

Good Sound

By J Cain

from San Diego, California

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I play piano and put bass/drum background tracks and vocals through the Bose. Overall sound quality is really great. I know it seems crazy, but sound is so pure you don't need reverb for vocals. The bass is really fat and solid. On-stage placement of the Bose takes some experimentation. Had to get over my preconceived notions of traditional speaker/amp sound systems. The system sounds consistently good in every room. Sets up and tears down quicker than traditional speaker/p.a. head. For best results use the T1 tone match unit.

excellent

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I have been doing one and two piece acoustic acts with this system plus a T1 tonematch for over two years and I can say with complete confidence that if you are in the market, the only thing better is the Bose L1 model 2.There is no comparison in sound. Is it overpriced? Absolutely. Bose can get away with that because there L1 systems are the best thing out there for small acts. This system will make you a better musician. You'll hear details that you've never heard before. For the first time you'll be forced to pay attention to and improve upon the slighest details in your playing and singing because for the first time you'll actually be able to hear them.People who know nothing about sound will comment on how good it sounds. The volume it achieves with crystal clear sound is almost unbelieveable. I finished a happy hour bar gig one night and the dj was late and the bar was crowded so the owner asked me to throw my iPod on until he got there. This gave me my first oppurtunity to really crank it up and see what it could do. I only got up 3/4 of the way on the master volume before it was painfully loud and still crystal clear.Features doesn't get a perfect 5 because it is kind of heavy and awkward to transport. But that is the only aspect of the features that is not excellent.Value doesn't get a perfect 5 bc it is overpriced. If you have the money do not hesitate to purchase this system. If you have a little more money, get the model II. Same sound quality but more portable.

Bose L1 different sound

By Shumas

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I have these Bose L1 's 3 "pipes" & 10 subs, & using like PA system . Very good sound, frequency response, sound projection spread ( until 180 angle ), & less echoes in bad acoustic halls. This is best my purchase, when I was happy, that I spend big money for good equipment. 100% of satisfaction.

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I've used the L1 for the past year, and after having owned various conventional systems for the past 20 years, it's like a breath of fresh air. Everywhere I play I get a great response from the audience. I can hear myself like never before, without the need of cumbersome monitors or a sound person. Easy set-up and break down...I easily transport the L1, two guitars, and a couple of gig bags in my compact car. The only drawback with the L1 is that there are no onboard effects. I use a Lexicon effects processor, sounds fantastic. I've done about 70-80 gigs with the L1, with no technical problems, great consistent sound..well worth the money. If you're a singer/songwriter, you can't go wrong with the L1.

Expected More From Bose

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I had bought the Fishman SA220, but was not satisfied with the sound. I had a suspicion that the Bose L1 would simply blow the Fishman away, since many years ago in my rock era I had a Bose 802's and a 502 subwoofer system that was just incredible. So, I sent back the Fishman and ordered the L1 Model 1. First thing I noticed was how big and heavy it is. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but I was surprised at the size of the power base. However, the subwoofer is not all that big or heavy (compared to the old 502). After setting it up for a test (less than 5 minutes), I determined that the sound quality was indeed superior to Fishman, but still didn't have the "wow" factor of the 802 system. I realize that the 802's are about 3 times the cost and used huge globs of power, but I just expected more than what I heard from the L1. Anyway, I used it last night on a little job to provide backround music at a dinner party. Just about at the end of the evening we heard a pop and the system went dead. The power light was off but the fuse was still good. Apparently the power module blew. Musicians Friend is taking care of the return already, but gee, I just expect more than that from Bose.In hindsight now, I'd probably have been better off keeping the Fishman considering the price ($999), and all the features the Fishman has that the Bose doesn't. The Fishman does not have the sound of the Bose, but still it is not bad.PROS: Excellent sound quality / Quick and easy setupCONS: No crossover adjustment between the sub and upper speakers / No effects / No AUX outputs / A wee bit on the heavy side / In my case, defective product design, since mine blew up.

Ask me a question

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

The contemporary christian praise team I play with have been using 2 of these as a house PA/monitor system for a couple of years now.We recently added 2 extra bass modules for a total of 4 (2 per side). We run the ten piece group through a mixer and use the L1s in a standard way except one unit is placed behind the group as a sort of combination monitor/main. These units deliver a huge upside. smooth, clear sound with volume to spare. Even sound distribution. Very easy to set up and tear down. With the extra bass modules it handles bass guitarand low synth sounds very nicely and with 6 micsset up in front of it, it rarely feeds back. I'd love to have a pair for my classic rock band, but here's the downside, they are way too expensive. The sound is great but not that much better than a standard name brand PA system costing 1/2 to 2/3 as much. It's hard to justify the money outlay simply for the ease of set up & portability. These speakers are great if you can get someone to buy them for you....

Ask me a question

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I honestly feel that once this technology catches on, you are going to see these types of designs replacing conventional speakers. I have two of these that I run as my main speakers from my mixer. The fact that I need no monitors and the band hears what the audience hears should be enough to convince you to invest in this technology. It's like everyone is listening to a huge stereo sound system, without sound reflecting and bouncing around from 12 different speakers. It's a bit expensive now, but you will be amazed how it makes your band sound!

Great idea but short on features

By PeachEater

from Atlanta

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

Had the chance to use this system for a while. Nice but for the price it comes with very little features. Not enough XLR inputs, no built in reverb and I can't remember it having phantom power for condenser mics. Not enough EQ control and only 3-4 presets for mic models. Not sure if it reaches it's own hype but it's a cool solution and not really easier to travel with than two good powered speakers and a rack cased mixer. Add the right professional working musician features and I think you'll have something I'd like much better.

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I have heard a local acoustic guitar soloist play through this system in a large arboretum like setting. The sound is amazing. I was most impressed by the fact that the sound was distributed at such a even volume over such a large area. He didn't play at a loud volume but the music sounded the same whether you stood five feet from him of 50 feet away. The gig was at a christmas art fair so there were hundreds of people milling around and talking but the music was audible throughout the venue at at a even volume no matter how far or close you stood to the sound system.

Bose BLOWS Away The Competition

By Dave the Drummer

from Sauk Rapids, MN

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I have been with our band for nearly 10 years. About 4 years ago we tired of having to constantly carry tons of equipment, blow our ears out with in-ear monitors, and constantly strive to get 'that sound' only to end the evening with ringing ears and short tempers. When it came time to invest in a new sound system we decided to dump ALL of the other equipment (Amps, PA's and Monitors) and go with BOSE!! What a life (and ear) saver! We are a 3 piece band and we each purchased a Bose L1. As a drummer I need a bit more punch, as well as did our bass player, so we bought 3 extra subs for our units. Our guitar player only needed one...so we invested! 5 years later we are still using BOSE and would NEVER go back to anything else. No matter how large or small the gig..indoors or outdoors..BOSE delivers. We can finally hear what our audience hears, and the only additional audio purchase we made was an inexpensive mixer to add a bit of tone to the BOSE. I recently added an Alesis DM5 Drum Module along with mesh heads for my Gretsch Drum Kit..AND WE HAVE MUSIC!!! The BOSE system is our Main, Monitor, AND Amp! We have enough sound to fill any venue, and the best thing is that set up and tear down has been cut by 3/4 time!! We wouldn't have anything else!

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I have used my L1 for well over 400 shows and I won't travel without it. The venues love it because it doesn't blow out people's ears and it has a small foot print. I love because it sounds great and there is reduced liability since it all sits behind me. There is nothing to tip over or trip over.

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I've played in rock/metal bands for about 17 years. I currently sing lead and play bass in my own rock trio. We use two of these for our gigs. They always sound great. For really large gigs we can always run line outs to FOH. However, for every gig we've played so far, up to a few hundred people, the L1's are all we needed. I run my bass, and vocals and e drums to one and the guitarist has one. The people who say the sound is thin or the system doesn't sound good, havn't set them up right. You can definately use these for rock clubs.

Good system

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Bose L1 Model 1 Single System/Single Bass Package:

I have owned this system for over a year. I bought it used, with one sub. This is the best system I have ever used and I have been playing in a band for 8 years. You really need to have 2 subs for outdoor gigs. 1 sub usually works fine for indoor gigs. Also in order to get the maximum use out of this system you need the Tonematch mixer. I used a mackie mixer for awhile and the tonematch blows it out of the water with all settings and EQ's you can use. If you are planning on using this for a band you might want to buy one for everyone in the band, because 1 cannot keep up with a full live band. I have tried to use it just for vocals and I don't think it is loud enough. But for me the solo guitar loop show it is perfect and portable. People constantly look at it and are amazed by the sound!!
