Comments about Bose L1 Model II System with ToneMatch Audio Engine:
This is an addendum to my previous review. I had the opportunity to use the system in live performance the other night. I played at a private holiday party for a local business organization with about 50 people in attendance. The banquet room seating capacity was around 150 with a mixture of carpeting and hardwood flooring. There were a number of large pillars near the middle of the room. I positioned myself in between the pillars but in way that I was visible to all of the tables. The system was about 7-8 feet behind me and not totally visible to all of the tables. In practicing on the system in my finished basement, I have had the Master set at 12 o'clock but I had to turn it down for the performance to 11 o'clock because people said it was too loud. Keep in mind that people wanted to be able to talk to each other while they were eating so I couldn't be too loud and over powering. I thought the system worked great but it was very strange not to have a conventional monitor facing me which I am so used to. I was able to hear my voice and the guitar very well but it was more like I could hear what everyone else was hearing (which is the way it is supposed to work). My voice and the guitar just seemed to fill the room evenly and perfectly and I didn't get the sense that the sound was being produced behind me. It really was quite odd but truly amazing. This is a great system.

Comments about Bose L1 Model II System with ToneMatch Audio Engine:
I received the Bose® L1™ Model II System a little over a week ago which I chose as a replacement for the conventional equipment that I have used for so many years. I was looking for a high quality, versatile, more compact system which was easy to carry, set up and use. I conducted a lot of research prior to my purchase which was well worth the effort. I had also heard very positive comments from people who had already used this system in performance. So far, it has met all of my expectations. For a reference point, I am strictly a vocalist and an acoustic guitar player. I play all styles of music but predominantly popular music from the 20's through the 70's and I perform in many different venues. I use all Martin guitars with the workhorse being my SPJC – 16RE Acoustic Electric. The system is compact (5 pieces) – B1 Base Module, 2 Cylindrical Radiator® loudspeakers, stand and audio engine. Each piece comes with its own very nice quality carrying bag. For the setup, the B1 Base Module fits snugly between the legs of the stand (either side) and the entire system takes up only around a 2.5 x 2.5 foot area. Bose ® recommends (ideally) that the performer be positioned approx. 7-8 feet in front of the system. I recommend purchasing the optional audio engine microphone stand bracket which puts the controls at your fingertips (If you sit on a chair like I do). There is also the option of having the audio engine mounted on the lower loudspeaker. All the pieces appear to be solidly built and of very high quality. Set up time for the system is literally a matter of minutes. The lower loudspeaker fits into the stand and the upper loudspeaker slides into the top of the lower one – no wires to connect as the electrical connection is done automatically; connect the base module to the stand and plug in the stand to a power strip (recommended); connect the audio engine to the stand and turn on the system. The microphones and instruments connect to the audio engine. The audio engine provides numerous sound options for microphones and instruments for each channel as well as globally. There are a number of preset options (Bose Scenes) which allow even the most inexperienced person to set up a particular overall sound for their performance (or a song) with just the touch of a button. You can also save your own scenes for future use. For the seasoned performer, there are numerous options to adjust the sound through Mod, Delay EQ, Reverb, Comp/Gate etc. Additional options include Bose's ToneMatch ™ presets designed for your specific instrument or microphone which can then be further modified using the sound options. The sound from the system is clear and crisp even with the volume turned up. This system is very impressive. I am also sure it will be a topic of conversation with your audience just by the way it looks – and sounds! I highly recommend it.
