OVERVIEW

Get the most from your L1 system.

The Bose ToneMatch audio engine is designed to enrich the sound of musicians using any L1 system. Its powerful features and tone-shaping tools quickly bring you closer to the true sound of your voice and instruments. This versatile audio engine helps you sound your best in live performances. It expands the input capacity of your L1 system and gives you instant access to a host of proprietary EQ presets, standard effects and processors.

The ToneMatch audio engine puts Bose's largest library of customized presets at your command. These presets instantly adjust your system to match the intended natural sound of popular instruments and microphones. So you reproduce factory-specified tonal balance”precisely and at the touch of a button.

Different presets can be independently assigned to the engine's four channels. For example, select Audix OM5 mic presets for channels 1 and 2, Taylor guitar for channel 3 and Lakland bass for channel 4”all at the same time. Bose engineers continually work with manufacturers to expand the ToneMatch preset library. Updates are available to you free, with easy downloading via the engine's USB port.

Intelligent equalization: zEQ
Fine tune your sound with greater accuracy. Bose intelligent zEQ redefines low, mid and high ranges for each ToneMatch preset. When you need to cut or boost specific frequency ranges for different instruments and mics, zEQ gives you the power.

Suite of effects and dynamics processing
Globally assign one of five different reverbs to each mic/line channel. You can also choose from 3 delay types, ten additional effects, and seven dynamics processors”and assign them independently to each channel.

Custom scenes
Store your customized settings for specific gigs with the "scenes" feature. The T1's engine comes with five predefined Bose scenes and ten you can define. Fast, one-touch scene recall helps you make quick work of repeat setups.

Easy connections
Simply link the engine to an L1 Model II system via the included digital cable”and rev it up. A sleek bracket is also included to attach the engine to the loudspeaker. For easy connection to a Model I system, use an analog cable and a T1 power adapter (optional).

Integrated ToneMatch and audio technologies
Powerful, multichannel ToneMatch audio engine designed for use with L1 Model I and Model II systems. Contains Bose's largest library of ToneMatch instrument and microphone presets, proprietary zEQ and a complete suite of studio-class effects and sound processors.

ToneMatchpresets
Proprietary presets optimize L1 system to match intended natural sound of specific instruments and vocal mics. Presets are organized into quick-access banks and can be independently assigned to each channel. You'll also receive free ongoing updates via USB connection between your computer and the ToneMatch audio engine.

ZEQ
Proprietary zEQ automatically adjusts the range of tone controls to match your voice or instrument, making it easier to fine tune your sound. Conventional mixers may have fixed EQ ranges that don't accurately affect desired frequencies when adjusted. But zEQ appropriately redefines low, mid and high frequency ranges of specified sources.

ParaEQ
Single-band parametric equalizer centers on frequency you specify for each independent channel. Valuable tool for reshaping problematic frequencies in certain venues.

Reverbs
Select from five reverb types: small, medium, large, plate and cavern. Quickly assign global reverb type to desired channels and control individual channel's decay time, brightness and mix level.

Delays
Choose from analog, digital or tape delay. Independently assign different delay settings for desired channels”with control over feedback time and mix level for each channel. For example, you can select tape delay for your vocal on channel 1 and analog delay for your guitar on channel 2.

Modulation effects

Independently assign 10 different modulation effects: three chorus types, two flange types, four phaser types and one vintage tremolo effect. Gives you discrete control over designated parameters for each channel.

Dynamics processing
Apply and adjust dynamic sound processing to independent channels. Choose from three different compression types, plus a limiter, de-esser, kick gate and noise gate.

Scenes
Store, recall and edit performance "scenes"”snapshots of key ToneMatch audio engine settings at any given time. Includes five predefined Bose scenes, five My scenes and five Shared scenes you can give to other L1 owners. Scenes help simplify and reduce setup time when you're using an L1 system repeatedly in different venues.

I play a "solo" gig mostly and have tried every possible PA / mixer / power amp / speaker combination there is in the world. Not until the Bose L1 Mod 2 w/T1 combo came along did I finally realize I had "arrived". My sound, my bookings, and my income have gone WAY up since I moved up the technology curve to this rig. For those on this board who have complained about "blue screen" shut-downs, yes they happen ... IF you don't follow the instructions. One example is leaving the tuner on or running power cables that are not of the highest quality and durability. Bottom line, this little setup is awesome, a bit pricey, but awesome none the less. Get one, read the book, and work with your tone in your garage BEFORE heading out to the gig and you'll be "sold" forever.

Even though I'm extremely interested in the new products that allow you to use an iPad as a mixer and offer hundreds of more features, I'm sticking with the T1. Not out of loyalty, but because it still gives me 99% of everything I actually need and more importantly, use. All Bose needs to do to keep my business is add 2 simple features. Add one more XLR input and upgrade the software so I can save 100 different rooms instead of only 10. There are several other features I wish the T1 had, but those 2 are at the top of my list.

Lastly... the biggest misconception is that you can only use this mixer with a Bose PA. That's NOT TRUE! You can use this mixer with ANY "powered" speakers. I use my T1 with JBL speakers all the time.

At the end of the day, I really do love this little mixer would highly recommend it to anyone.
When I first purchased this 3 years ago, it was light years ahead of the competition. However, because technology is moving so fast, people are releasing new versions of their products every 6 months to a year. Bose hasn't released a new version of this mixer in 4 years. This mixer (in some ways) has become a dinosaur while in other ways remains current. On one hand it has many features other mixers don't. It has the best mic pre-amps I've EVER heard because of the patented "ToneMatch" technology. It's designed to hang on your Mic stand which I believe is the only mixer in the world to do that and I use it that way 100% of the time. It has presets that allow you to save the way you mixed a room. However, it only has 10 rooms you can save which is extremely outdated compared to what's out there now. It's packed with many world class effects so you don't need a rack full of processors. If something happens to your T1 (broken/lost/stolen), Bose has software that allows you to "back up" all your settings and download them to a new T1 within minutes. It has a USB connection for direct recording into your computer, but everyone is doing that now.
I'm very pleased with the quality of the T1. I've done over 1000 shows with it and it still works. It's only failed on me once. I couldn't get any sound to come out of it, but I honestly wasn't that upset because I had already made over a $150,000 return on a $500 investment. Unfortunately, it failed at a gig so I had to drive to the closet Bose store to buy a replacement and started my show over an hour late. Fortunately, Bose was still open. Even though this only happened ONCE, once was to many times. I now take a "back up" to every single gig.
Dollar for dollar, this mixer CAN'T be beat. You get A LOT for $500. Even though there are other products out there with more features, they're also far more expensive. The newest trend are mixers that use an iPad as the interface to control everything. This is truly amazing BUT... you need to buy the interface and you need to buy an iPad. Even if you bought the cheapest iPad available, you'll still be spending over $1500 after you buy the interface.

It's true that there are really great compact mixers you can get for UNDER $500, but they won't have any of features of the T1. More importanly they won't SOUND as good and I promise you'll hear the difference.

Best mixer I own

By joelheck

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

This is one of the best sounding and most convenient mixers to use. I love the presets for all my gear. I mount mine on my Mic stand with the optional bracket. I have been using mine now for over 2 years, with no issues. Some of the early 2007 units had a software glitch, (If you left it in tuner mode, could blue screen)that Bose fixed. I never encountered the problem, but updated the firmware to be safe.

Consider a Backup Mixer if you buy a T1

By Green Gene

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

Great when it works. But I'll never trust it again.
When the T1 works, it is great. It does a lot, has a lot of options, a lot of bells and whistles, and once you work with it and "tune it in", it sounds great with your L1 P.A. system
For most users, from what I gather, the T1 is reliable when used properly. The "blue screen" lockups, etc. that plagued many of the earlier units prior to 2009 seem to have been addressed by Bose. However, if you read the Bose User's Forum, you will still find plenty of reviewers who bemoan a T1's failure during a gig, sometimes requiring a reboot, sometimes losing a complete channel. This appears to be in the minority of cases. But if it happens to you, what difference does it make if you're in the minority? I bought my L1 system, including a T1 in September, 2011. I was only a couple of weeks away from playing out with it, it had never left the house, and I probably only had 6 hours of usage on it. It started making huge popping noises whenever I touched any button or dial, and stopped putting out any audio signal at all. I had to return it to Bose. There are some in the User's Forum who say an owner of a T1 should always bring a backup mixer to every gig "just in case." Many would disagree. Me? When I get my new T1 back from Bose, I will hope for the best. But I will never look at it with pride again, I won't trust it, and I plan to take my still-reliable (but bulky) 30-year old analog Tapco mixer with me to every gig. I think that's ridiculous. I'm not putting down the L1 system, but I do not trust the T1. I think there may be too much going on inside that small unit for it to hold up.
If it works, it's worth the money, and a good value. If it doesn't work, it's useless, and I feel I'll always have to lug around a backup. If Bose really believes in the T1, they should provide a full 5-year warranty on the T1, just as they do the speakers in the L1. That's the only way I'd ever buy a T1 again.

Didn't hold up

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

I bought this to use for live performance, and it froze in a blank 'blue screen' after about 10 months..at an actual gig. I couldn't re-set it in any way. I had to use a repacement mixer to finish out the gig. Bose, to their credit, is sending me a new one, but I'm not sure I can trust it as a primary live mixer anymore. Otherwise, it's full of features and sounds amazing. They need to make it sturdier, or at least have a way to re-start it if it locks up. Mine remained in eternal blank-blue-screen state.

About time Bose

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

Very happy with the unit after the first couple weeks of tuning it in. Expect it to work well with my rig.
I've just resently purchased the T1 for my L1 Mod I system. I've always thought the system should have had the effects on board. I'm getting it tuned in and set for my use. I like the easy set up and on the run adjusts that are available. I will be using this for a solo act: voice, acoustic and electric guitar and back tracks. This will allow me to drop a couple reverbs and compressors from the system. Should really clean things up.......Like the input trim adjustment also, evens things out. Good piece, now we'll see how it holds up to the road. It also works well to take "your sound" with you, just plug into the house PA and your in the groove.....
Nice and compact, looks good hanging from the column. Doesn't feel cheap. Their quality is untouchable.
Not cheap, but it's not a cheap unit. Good quality for the price. And it is Bose after all. One neg: the power source should be included with the unit.

KILLER & EASY TO USE

By ROCK & ROGERS

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

We use this system at all our gigs which require a P.A. in our working acoustic duo. It performs so well that we truly miss it when we do a gig with a house p.a., we use the L1 Model 2 tower with a sub, and the tone match engine is incredible sounding, easy to use, and everyone including ourselves are amazed that this much sound and quality come out of this incredible system. It also works well with a trio, we mike the kick drum and it really thumps, and you can hear everything coming through crystal clear!if you can afford it buy it! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!

So far so good

By sebastian link

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

Overall I am really loving this thing. Mounting it on my mic stand is super handy. I can make adjustments on the fly without having to turn around or anything is wonderful. Compact and quality. I think sometimes you have to take time with the EQ especially thhe parametric to really dial in your ideal sound but it's in there.
I haven't gotten to all it's features but with 3 band eq, reverb, compressor so easily available it does seem to do the job.
The construction seems solid. All the knobs are smooth and the design it very intuitive.
As mine was a used item and I purchased it at a reduced price, I have to say it is a really good value.

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

In the long run this device does a lot in a small unit. Haven't tried the L1 without it. All F/X and processors sound good. Working on each channel is easy, F/X can be muted on each channel.
Each channel has an amazing array of processing features that can be used independantly.
High quality construction. Mount is a liitle loose and can fall off. Safer to set it somewhere else.
Expensive, but replaces a whole rack of F/X gear.

Major Malfunction

By Mudcat

from Nashville

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

I bought one of these recently and it wasn't long before I encountered the blue screen of death. After much investigation, I've discovered that Bose is still knowingly shipping defective units and leaving it up to the buyer to discover the firmware fix AFTER having suffered a failure of the unit. Why aren't the new units including the new firmware? Irresponsible!

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

I purchased mine 6 mos ago and have used it for several gigs. The sound is amazing and the set up a dream!! However, at the price I am appalled this is manufactured in China. So far, knock on wood, I have not encountered the infamous "Blue Screen" lock-up but based on the quality of manufacture I am preparing for one.

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

I've been carting around a rather cumbersome PA system for the last 10 years with floor speakers, pole mounted speakers, spot monitors, large powered mixer and the usual aray of cords, etc. This Bose system is a God send for an aging musician like myself. I absolutely love this system. The sound is incredible and the simplicity is amazing. I'm doing solo and duet gigs at this point in my career and this system is perfect. It would be a little costly to get a whole band set up with these systems but for me I can't imagine ever going back to a traditional PA system. I haven't found anything negative so far.

Great Potential

By Bud

from USA...where else?

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

I test drove this one (quiet) day. I have longed for a system that sounds as great as the Bose system does...and it was attached to the new tower. It took awhile to dial in, and it did have good effects; but it did take time to dial in. (One of the knobs was missing, which I figure was a result of all of the customer traffic) I guess you have to buy the system and work with it before you make a final determination. It is pricey. I have looked for a comparable (less expensive system) to put together, Yamaha head, other outboard effects, and so on, but I really was hoping to get the "all in one" machine. I really think the stereo effect, especially with the articulatored (?) speakers might be the stuff, but you never know. You can't beat the general concept, because the fact of the matter is Bose knows. I may still buy it and give it 45 days...

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

Got this with the Bose L1 Model II. It is amazing what it can do. It has modeling for guitars, mics, bases and a grab bag of effects for each channel. A definite must have when you get the system. My Line 6 POD XT is even in its configured data base. Bose has really done a great job on this unit.

Nightmare on Stage

By Bluzd

from PNW

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

I purchased the L1 system and quickly realized I needed the T1 Tone Engine to get the sound I needed. I found the system alittle cumbersome to program the four channels to exact sound preferences. Once dialed in it worked pretty good. On my third gig using this equipment in the middle of the first set all sound went out. The display on the T1 was still lit, but blank. I had to turn the power off to the unit and power it back up. Problem was it lost all memory in the unit so I lost all the presets for all four channels. Not having time to reprogramm the unit "On Stage", it defaulted to factory presets (Flat, no effects). It sounded like CRAP for the rest of the set. During break I was able to reprogramm it at a fraction of the sound we had originally had it set at. This is the Nightmare you worry could happen on stage, but when it becomes a reality you think your dreaming. You feel like your standing naked on stage. I no longer can feel comfortable using this equipment on stage where everything counts. My equipment MUST DELIVER, this equipment fell short. For the price I expected MUCH MORE. I am within the 45 day guarantee so I am shipping this whole system back tomorrow. Buyer be Ware.

Bad Investment

By Eric's Music

Comments about Bose T1 ToneMatch Audio Engine:

I bought my Bose system on 4/28/2007. In the later part of June 200 I tried to play for a birthday of about 200 people. The T-1 froze to a blank screen. I was in practice: my sequences were good - and no functioning PA head. YOU CAN'T TRUST IT! I also have an older JBL "EON" system. You're money would be better spent on JBL!
