I purchased a pair of C9s for home use. I have professional recording studio and I wanted a cheap stereo pair for home recording. So far I've used them on an acoustic guitar and upright piano. To get the best results I've placed the mics very close to the source in both cases. Too far away and you start to get more room ambiance and depending on the room acoustics, you may not want that. I am looking for a tighter sound and they sound very good if you close mic the source.

For a Stupid Deal price they sound great for a home recording option.

Comments about CAD C9 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone:

I managed to pick up the CAD C9 pencil condenser mic during a Stupid Deal of the Day. WOW. Even at it's listed price, it does an excellent job for the dough. Great clarity and decent noise floor. No pad or low freq roll off, but I didn't expect that for the money spent. I just ran a quick test and threw the mic on an acoustic guitar. Perfect. I have over 28yrs experience in the industry and LOVE deals like this. Very unexpected, but excellent!

Comments about CAD C9 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone:

I bought this on a whim as a "Stupid Deal of the Day" mainly because I needed a decent mic to record acoustic guitar and possibly some scratch vocals. I I'm using a small, inexpensive setup: M-Audio StudioPro 3 powered monitors, Behringer Xenyx 802 6 channel phantom powered mixer into Cubase LE 5(Windows 7 Version. This mic is very clear sounding with and balanced in my opinion. I like the compact size too. Wish I had bought 2 of them so that I could experiment with ambient stereo fields. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase.

Comments about CAD C9 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone:

Powerful little mic good for acoustic guitars and drums. Smaller than I thought but that turned out to be a good thing. If you have a small PA make sure it has phantom power or you can't use this. Super mic if you by on the Stupid Deal Of The Day. I don't think I would pay retail though.

Right now I have this set up to mike my hi-hat. This will be used for amateur recordings and performances. Gives a nice clear sound. I'm very satisfied with the mike at this point, although I do wish it had come with a windscreen for outside use. Good value in my opinion.

Comments about CAD C9 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone:

Being used as an overhead mic on a small jazz drum kit. Works admirably on the gig to add sparkle to the cymbals and snare. Phantom powered, plenty of pizazz at the board. Works well combined with a shure 57 on the bass drum, though limited bass response would prevent me from using the CAD alone for full range instruments or vocals. Good deal on Stupid Deal of the Day.

I picked this up on one the Stupid Deal offers. I use this mic for live acoustic performances (when there is no sound system) to augment the piezo pickup sound of my guitars. This mic is wide open sonically - I use a Behringer mixer w/ phantom power and I do roll off a bit of the upper treble. I situate the mic over the bridge area on a classical guitar then blend the piezo and mic signals to suit the sound. It works great.

Comments about CAD C9 Cardioid Pencil Condenser Microphone:

Like most on here, I grabbed these as a Deal-Of-The-Day. I have been using a pair of Behringers as my drum overheads but wanted a second pair to put out front of the band for live recording without losing my OHs. I ran a comparison, mounting both the Behringer pair and these in an X/Y over my drums along with a Shure Beta52 on my bass drum. The C9s are a little brighter than the Behringers. I then added a Behringer B2 about 4 ft. in front of my kit (Pearl Reference) and found the brightness of that combined w/ the C9s was a little too bright for my recording. I think when recording I will stick with the Behringers as overheads, the Beta52 on the bass and the B2 in front, but for live I will just use the C9s and use the Behringers out front to record the band. These could also easily be used for acoustic guitar and other acoustic instruments and would provide enough brightness to keep everything clear in the mix. Very handy little mics!
