I give this mic my highest rating. I have 4 of them that go into the field with me as sound reinforcement for choir. That is a hard duty for a microphone. Many choirs are using the hanging mini AT mics, and they sound better than this CAD, but they'd better at 5 times the price per mic.
My SM81s are used just for recording purposes, and I've figured out how to get a good choir recording with a pair of 81s and a large diaphragm condenser as a solo mic.
But I can't lose those 81s because I ain't made o'money. Plus, in most sound reinforcement applications, the awesome quality of the SM81 is lost in the crowd noise and the PA system. What you need in a live choir mic is DECENT sound quality and a high Gain Before Feedback.
I find with these CADs, I get incredible amounts of gain--have to severely dial back the gain on these compared to the handheld SM57 we use as a solo mic. And it's no slouch in the gain department. As for sound quality, having a single SM57 dynamic in the mix is a good way to gauge SQ because everybody knows what the 57 sounds like. And with all EQ settings at zero, these little CADS are far more open sounding and give a much more 'live' feel than a 57 can do. But they still require some tweaking for best performance. The 57 also needs a lot of 'thinning' in the midbass to achieve a bit more balance with these condensers. The sound is very different and requires compensation for timbre matching. That's not a bad thing, since the slight midbass hump of the 57 is actually a much loved characteristic of that mic, very useful in other applications.
I find that if I have time to adjust the EQ parameters for the midrange of these little cheapies, I can get very, very nice sound out of the house system. But it does require some effort to balance the feedback fight with the sound quality mission. That would be true even with expensive mics of course, but since many of those have a flatter response curve to start with, the job is less involved.
I leave the bass unattenuated because with a choir you need as much bass as you can get. I also find that shockmounts are critical in live applications of this mic--it is just too 'live' to handle any bumps agaist the stand gracefully.
Behaves generally as a small-diaphragm condenser should. This is our second Christmas with this set. They got set up for five performances and about 20 rehearsals this year and they're all still working, so fingers crossed.
Bass rolloff and -10db pad, comes with basic clip.
I'm giving this thing 10 quality stars because of how inexpensive it is. So quality for me with regards to this mic is inextricable from the value proposition.
Where else are you going to find mics at 30 bucks each that can do what this mic can do?

These are not worth the small amount of money they are asking for. When I bought them they were only [$] for the pair, and now they are even more. I, like many others most likely, thought "Wow! I can get a pair of overheads for only [$] dollars!" But I was wrong. These have a lot of noise and are extremely sensitive. On my preamps, I was not even able to use them without clipping, because of the extremely high output of these mics, which is common in a lot of cheap condensers. For your own good, don't buy these mics. The sound quality is terrible and they will not do you any good. You would be much better off saving up the [$] towards a pair of perception 170s if you are looking for a cheap small diaphragm condenser. Yes, they are more expensive, but the difference is worth it. If you want to get decent quality sounds out of a mic, don't get these. You are going to throw away [$] and end up wanting to buy something else in 1 month anyways so you might as well save the money and skip the hassle.

I've used these mics for almost ten years now. Mostly on percussion. Congas and bongos sound great. I've also used them on horns in a big band horn section putting one on each tuxedo stand. At a medium distance, and with others set up similarly, it makes for a good economical way to mike the 13 horns of a big band.

these did exactly what I wanted, pick up the highs of symbols easily, I am very novice and use only two mics for a whole drum set but I think that these mics pick up everything well, even the bass. the best part about them is the price. they work well on acoustic guitar as well.

I was able to mic the front of the stage for a school play cheaply and very effectively. I also used them to mic a school chorus group as well with outstanding results. I have yet to experiment with higher volume levels but I don't forsee any issues.

Used these in a a-b comparison with an Auldio Technica ATM11 and an AKG C1000 recording an acoustic guitar. The Cad did not have as much sparkle as the other two. That is not to say it was all that bad, but since I have a choice I would not use the Cad for Acoustic. Have not had a chance to use for drum overhead, which a lot of people use this mice for. The lack of sparkle might be a good thing for cymbals to keep the high transiants to a minimum. May be good for recording E. guitar amp, or keyboard amp in a live situation. Or maybe sax/horn. Can't go wrong for the price.

the set received good reviews so i bought them and I am NOT disappointed. they're used as overhead mics and do a great job, nice clean sound for cymbals. works well in the large Hotel/Ballroom type setting. our experienced sound guy was impressed.*Phantom power required* as you all know, most all newer mixing consoles have a Phantom power switch.

Used these to mic violins during Christmas concert. Read some bad reviews but took a chance because of price. So glad I did! I was shocked at what they accomplished. Please take into account a users sound system and eq capabilities. These mic's will perform well and you and your budget will be thankful!
