Comments about CAD CM217 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
Not my "go to" for anything really, but certainly wouldn't be afraid to use it for any number of things like acoustic guitar, bass cab (tried it, it works), classic string instruments, or percussion.
Being so tiny and still having a pad and roll off switch is impressive.
Very small, a little bigger than a pinky finger. Decently rugged I suppose. I've had absolutly no problems with 6 of them. Sound quality is much better than one might expect. Ironicly as drum overheads I really don't like them, the high end is rather harsh and doesnt eq very well. I love them as an overhead for congas and bongos and such. Just a few weeks ago I stuck one of these on a stand in front of an acoustic guitar with vocal and the single mic was outstanding. Excellent blend of voice and instrument. The voice was clear, the guitar was smooth and rich. It was really just an experiment since I already had a direct guitar signal and vocal mic for the house. I recorded the cad mic straight to my laptop and listened to it later. I prefered the mic to the direct record feed from the board.
That's cheap for something that works as a great utility mic.

I bought these to mic my fr 48 steel fender resonater, as i sway an rock while i play i had tonal difference as i went . I am completely surprised by the clarity and 0 self noise i mounted one in several places lower f hole , far lower cone and 2nd from back lower cone ,settling for the fhole pointing backto bridge . Like this i can still get treble but can adjust bass proximity by tilitng mic down to 1 in of the body and angled towards the treble strings. I love the size and with the bass roll of and pad on feedback is minimal the tone is great how can you beat this two for one price i dont know. Only problem was one had some paint in the groove for the cable lock makes it hard to get out .AS fr 48s are the by far heaviest steel res. on the market and the most toneful once you fix the bridge the minimal weght gain is nice.Yes i will probabley buy 2 more . As a after thuoght i mounted one inside the res. and it handled it with grace, the sound was so throaty it cut on clarity but with sev, mounting position attempts i think it may be equal to a surface mount.

I got two of these with CAD's drum mic package. Jury's still out on that (I'm finding these CADs and all Chinese mics dont have a lot of dynamic response and some funky charactaristics that can be a surprise if you grew up with Shures, EV(s), and Sennheisers...you get what you pay for). Anyway, I never used these as the kit intended as overheads (I used Nady condensers instead) so I keep these as extras for around the studio or in my road bag for when I get inspired at home. The pad makes them good for acoustic guitar and hand percussion such as tambourines, sleigh bells, and small diameter congas and bongos (used these guys for recording all of these instruments in a quiet room with pretty good results). What these suck at is any thing with a lot of punch, like as someone else has said, toms. Using these as a cymbal mike I found a horrible "boom" happen whenever I went to my 14" and floor tom while recording...sounded like a cannon had gone off even with the pad on. Truly a WTF moment. If you get these with the CAD drum mic kit they may be an ok deal, but on their own I'd say buy the Nady condenser 2 pack instead if you need overheads or cots-effective condensers in general and you'd be better off.
Comments about CAD CM217 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
NOT for loud sources! There is also two-for-one package on MF for the same price. Might as well go with that option.I was hoping to use these as tom mics, but they couldn't handle the loud low end, even with the pads engaged. I tried them as overheads and it was still too loud for the mics, although in some live applications you might not care about a little clipping.Where these mics do shine is as ambiance (audience) mics. Small, inconspicuous, and with high end detail and bass roll-off switching. Since they were overloaded so easily, I kept the pads engaged. If you're recording sermons, audience mics are crucial, feed them to the tape, but not to the monitors or house, they'll feed back.
Comments about CAD CM217 Small Diaphragm Condenser Microphone:
I bought a pair to mic instruments. It's been a challenge to have a good, permanent, portable way to amplify my upright bass. I've had good piezos, used an SM57 on a stand, so on. This little jewel mounts on a stand bracket that I clamped to the tailpiece with a little gooseneck, and it's perfect. Clean, able to take the punch, limited feedback. I'd recommend you try it out. Can't beat it for the price.
