Okay

Features:

They are durable and the overheads can sound good if placed right. The kick drum mic lacks punch, so be sure to eq. The tom/snare mics aren't terrible, but they have bad off-axis rejection and pick up a lot of bleed in from the other elements on your kit (like excessive hi-hat sounds when your trying to mic your snare) and also seem a little too bright. If you can afford it, I recommend an Audix d6 kick mic, Shure sm57's for toms/snare and MXL 993 overheads. Unless you just need mics to get by for now I do not suggest buying these for serious recordings.

Quality:

Durable.

Value:

Cheap for 7 mics.

Overall:

They are okay. Overheads are the best part if used right.

Acceptable Mics, beware large immovable clips and use the correct cables

Premium 7-piece Drum Mic Pack.  SKU 271264

The mics, themselves, are fine but, admittedly, I had zero expectations and I don't know much about mics to begin with so probably anything would be fine, to me.

I DO have some warnings, though:

The clips (for the snare and toms) are rather large and don't have a pivot.  So, I feel like the mics get in the way of my playing.  They're not in the way, really.  They just FEEL like they are in the way because I can't pivot the clip and the mic is too far "inside" the circumference of the drum.  The mic HOLDERS, themselves, have a slight pivot but the CLIPS do not.  I just feel like I should be able to move the mics "back - out of the way" a little.  I don't understand why they didn't allow the clip, itself, to pivot.  Hopefully, I'll get used to it.

HOWEVER, for the snare, I just couldn't deal with it.  So, I bought a small-footprint boom stand to hold the snare mic, rather than clipping the mic to the snare.  Again, I just felt like the mic was in my way (too far inside the circumference of the rim) ... I mean, I can just imagine doing a fill and smacking the mic with my stick.  Wouldn't that be great?  Even the psychological aspect, I just couldn't deal with the mic being so far "inside" of the snare rim.  So, again, I decided to by a boom stand for the snare mic.

Also, take note that the KICK mic and the TWO cymbal mics require PHANTOM power, meaning that they need XLR cables.  The Musician's Friend rep sold the wrong cables to me for my mixer (which has both XLR and quarter-inch inputs).  Quarter-inch cables DO NOT work for the kick and cymbal mics.  Quarter-inch are fine for the other four mics (snare and toms) but XLR are required for the cymbal and kick mics.  So the discount that MF extended to me is being wiped out by my having to pay for shipping to return the wrong cables that THEY sold to me.  Admittedly, they're doing an even exchange even though the new (correct) cables are more expensive but, still ... if the MF rep had known what he was doing in the first place, I would've saved a few bucks.  Now, I guess I'm just breaking even between the discount and the shipping costs.  Well, maybe my review will save my fellow drummers some money.

So I've been playing drums for like 7 years or so and about 2 or 3 years ago I purchased a gretsch catalina ash set, it sounds great, I recommend that set to anyone who wants a good set for a low price.. I also bought a matching 16" floor tom... with that being said, I wanted a good pair of mics that wouldn't run my wallet dry; my brother is a music major and has 3 years of recording and mixing classes under his belt so I asked him what he'd use; I don't have a lot dollars to mic a 7 piece set with the mics he'd use. So what I did was I bought this 7 pac, and the 4 pac together. So I had the 2 overhead condensers, 5 mics for my toms, a top and bottom snare mic, and 2 mics for my kick drum... my band and I recorded through a tascam us-1641 interface on to logic pro on my bro's laptop... and what do you know these mics are great, my brother, who as I previously mention was a music major, even said that he was really impressed with these mics... with his knowledge of mixing and whatnot, we put together some pretty nice drum tracks for our songs, I would definitely recommend these mics to any drummer with a low budget, they're just good mics, I've only had them for a month or two so I can't say how long they will last without problems, but so far so good.

I bought these about 6 months ago along with a bunch of other products to build a studio. They have so far preformed great. Sound quality is very good and while I know there is better, you'll never find those ones anywhere near this price. Set them up, record something, and adjust to make them sound how you want and never touch them again. Buy these you won't regret it.

I'll start with the positives. The snare/tom mics are surprisingly good. The overheads are not terrible, but the problem is, the gain is so high that even when the gain on my board and volume are barely on, the cymbals are on top of the mix. So place them high. The kick is ok for what you pay but has no punch. The set is good though and is a great value
