Good Mics!!! AMAZING VALUE!!!

| Review By: Charlie Gannon | 3 weeks, 4 days ago

Features:

Everything works perfect, except for the xlr connectors on the mics were tight.

Quality:

Use these to record a 5 piece drum set. Sounds perfect with some EQ and effects!

Value:

Super amazed that I got these for $129!! It would still be a steal for double the price. Why not try these out first, rather than spending over $1000 on some other professional mics.

Honest Mics

| Review By: Christine Markesteyn | 1 month, 3 days ago

2 people out of 2 found this review helpful

Features:

The integrated mounts are great, high-quality, and sized and shaped perferctly for the rim of a drum. They are not cheap, and they allow good adjustability. The case is a nice bonus, and the mics themselves are not cheap garbage. The snare mic is supercardioid, while the tom mics are cardioid. The overhead mics can be used for applications other than drums as well. Many features.

Quality:

The are plastic. They used a cheaper material for the housing in order to provide quality components at a low price. They do not feel like they would break, they are even heavier than you might expect for plastic mics. I say "plastic" but its more like a lightweight polymer. The grill for the mics is metal, the clips are plastic and metal.   The quality of the sound is good, but they will not make your drums sound any better than they do in real life. If your toms/kicks sound "ok" than these mics will sound "ok". I call them Honest Mics because they reproduce the sounds of your drums and cymbals honestly, without improving on them. If you're buying budget mics, chances are you have budget drums, mic cables, and a budget mixer too. Keep this in mind when people say these mics don't sound good. I did.  The kick mic is not as bad as people say, and most people sound-replace kicks when recording anyway. I am using it for my floor tom, and I have 2 radio shack karaoke mics in my kicks. They sound horrible, but they produce a signal that I later sound-replace. Works like a dream.  I have been using an SM57 on my snare for years now, its a $100+- mic, and to my delight, the CAD snare mic sounds even better on my snare drum, a brass piccolo. I am going to use it on the top head, and put my Shure snare-side instead!

Value:
$30 per mic. You could spend that on clips alone, and they might not even be as good as these integrated mounts. As far as construction and sound-quality, I think the included overheads are worth the price of the entire package alone. Awesome value on a quality product.
Overall:
I was lucky to buy these before the sale ended, but I would have still purchased them at the regular price. I have had my eye on these mics for over 2 years now, and I am very pleased with them. The overhead mics look kind of cheesy in the pictures, but in person they are tiny, heavy, good-looking overhead mics. The rest of the mics are much smaller than you would think, and the smaller the better. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much smaller they were than I expected. I am happy with this purchase, most MF customers are. Thank you C.A.D.

First let me say that even at 3 times the cost these mics would be a very good deal. Back in the seventies there were no "drum mics" for live performance, basically whatever was left over got used on the drums. So the mics that were usually left over were the "cheap" Shure SM57's. They got the job done and were rugged enough for the road. Bam....a legend was born. Today major mic companies could sell their gear for a lot less but they have the name brand and that comes with a price. This mic package does exactly what the SM57 did back in the 70's and 80's: Good performance and ruggedness at a good price. Thes mics are not toys they are a solidly built product that with a litte care will last you for a while. The sound quality is on par with the brand name products while the cost is about 1/3 to 1/4 as much. Keep your money and get these for your performance rig you won't regret it.

Great mics!

| Review By: James Covington | 2 months, 2 weeks ago

1 people out of 1 found this review helpful

Features:

Excellent sound quality on all 7 mics... its all in your placement, but if you are using good cables and place them properly with a good mixer/recorder, these mics can make your drums and cymbals sound awesome!

Quality:

The mics are very well built and have excellent sound quality.  The clips on the tom/snare mics are fairly solid, just make sure you place them where you aren't gonna hit 'em while playing.  The cymbal mics sound really sweet and have built in switchable high-pass filters.  Make sure you have phantom power for the cymbal mics.  I seen some prior reviews that the bass mic was weak... if its placed just outside the port in your resonance head it picks up very well!

Value:

Excellent value!  My recordings using these mics sound like they were mastered in a professional studio!

Overall:

For the price, these are great mics... pick 'em up you won't regret it!
