SONAR has given audio production a serious boost with Version 5. The full 64-bit processing power (supported on Windows XP x64 Edition) of its pristine new audio engine sets new standards for digital mixing and boasts ground-breaking advances in utilization of RAM and native processing power. The double-precision, floating-point engine also delivers significant dynamic range improvements and also operates seamlessly with full operability on 32-bit computers.
With SONAR 5 you will have all the instruments, effects, and creative tools needed to make your music. Its fast, streamlined user interface makes it the perfect solution for composing, recording, editing, mixing, and remixing music productions; and for providing voice over, score, sound design and post audio for film, TV, video, commercials, and games.
You can record and edit unlimited tracks of audio and MIDI using up to 31 audio and 8 MIDI effects on input and sounds from responsive virtual instruments. You'll get synths powered by Roland sounds, virtual vintage-style analog synths, powerful groove samplers, and more. SONAR lets you loop/record live audio and MIDI to track layers, then assemble the perfect take using enhanced composition tools.
You can also quickly create backing tracks and remixes with MIDI groove clips and ACID-format loops with per slice control of pitch, gain, and pan. When you're ready for something new you can expand your sounds and effects with native support for VST, DirectX, and ReWire. You can use any Windows-compatible WDM or ASIO audio interface and get hands-on control with MIDI devices and control surfaces.
Flexible mixing capabilities deliver 30+ surround formats, effects, on-the-fly busing, vector envelopes, customizable pan laws, configurable meter ballistics, and more. You can configure SONAR the way you like with custom layouts, color schemes, even use keystrokes from other audio applications. I've got Protools and Cubase but Sonar 5 Pro has them beat, Hands Down. The Convolution Reverb is great and the V-Vocal is awesome. You'll find Sonar much more user friendly than Cubase. You also get more bang for the buck here with the extra plugins. I would really think about this before you buy Cubase. You just can't go wrong.
I have been a Sonar user since v. 2 and I think 5 is by far the best value for the features included! I have friends who bought a competing product (that starts with an N :) and paid twice as much, and they're amazed at what sonar does. 64 bit audio engine works on my 32 bit machine and sounds pristine. Anyways, it has always been a very stable and professional program IMO. Definitely worth every cent.
I have sometimes used SONAR in the past for specific things. I used Cubase to sequence with because the VST was easier. I used ProTools for audio recording and mixing down tracks. I have been using this non stop since I got it. It?s better that version 4 and VST is seamless. I have been amazed what all this will now do. I haven?t used ProTools since I got it except once and then I quickly went back to SONAR. This is easy to use and stable. This is now the total package that everyone has been striving for. I had been waiting for ProTools 8 to arrive but now I don?t even think I care. I am in love. I could give you many more reasons for buying this if I had the time. I have been a Cakewalk customer for several years. I started with Home Studio and upgraded my way to SONAR producer over a couple of years. Cakewalk treats their customers well upgrades are always affordable and if you don?t have the money you don?t need to start at the top. Tech support is great too. Value wise you will not top this. It does everything! (Even OMF with out costly add-ons!) If you are new to this, I would rather put my money here, plus it works with all your interfaces and it can even do it simultaneously unlike other software I won?t name but it produced by Digidesign. This is not a paid endorsement? lol. I don?t think I have ever written a review on here before. I am over satisfied customer that is really blown away!
I have both Pro-Tools and Sonar 5 Pro.What makes Sonar a step ahead is that it's 64Bit and comes with loads more plugins. It's the first Company to put out 64Bit (not that you can hear the difference) but for the money you can't beat this. I had some tiny issues with Sonar 5.0 but when 5.01 came out, WoW, this thing ROCKS. I had to give this a 10 because Cakewalk really has their act together. Their support is excellent so I guess that's why their products are excellent too.
