Comments about Cakewalk SONAR X1 Essential:
the only reason all of my scores weren't all 10 is because it does not work well without the usb sound card . it will work but not nearly as good, also with the uca222 the latency is a lot better, there's no delay to your sound when you hit a key on your keyboard it goes in and comes out instantly as far as i can tell and there's no lag time. i will say this one more time, if using windows visia or 7 do yourself a favor from the start and get the behringer uca222, after 2 weeks frustration i read about and ordered the 222card and was multi-tracking in 30 minutes.
i give 9 because there is a learning curve to this program and you must learn how to use it, although i'm not a computer genius i can record on it now pretty good but the best thing you can do if using windows vista is buy a 35.00 behringer uca222 u-control sound card because it makes it a lot easier to get your drivers and sound configurated.this thing made using the program much simpler and you'll be dollars ahead if you purchase this soundcard. great sound, for my use also sonar is a fantastic recording program once you learn your way around on it.
records fantastic, what goes in it comes out the same. efx are very easy to call and assign and i don't know how many different ones you can assign to 1 track at a time but i know you can assign at least 3 different efx at a time, possibly more i don't know. the efx are also good quality as far as i can tell. i haven,t gotten in to midi yet but it seems to be very powerful in what you can do with it but i'm more into audio recording and i haven't learned that much about the midi part yet.i have my own sound modules and keyboards.
i think this program is well worth the price if you are into multi-trac recording.i think it will do what most of us home boys want it to do. i'm sure the producer program will do more but it also cost three times as much and i'll just be happy to learn to use this program good. altho i do wish it had surround sound, which the producer series has but maybe i'll add on later. good recording software, i highly recommend it.
