Comments about Cakewalk V-Studio 100 Portable Music Studio:
This is the device that got me to move away from stand alone recording units. The thing is great as a scratch pad for rough tracks as the muse hits you. Once it's connected to a computer, it is a fantastic interface for a DAW. The lite version of Sonar that is bundled with the unit is a great starting point for stepping up to Sonar's higher end software. I love this tough little recording brick.

I got this for my home recording rig after frustration with an M-Audio product that just wasn't ready for Win 7 64bit. The VS-100 has no problems with Win7 64 and is a delight to work with. I wanted something very portable with a lot of useful features and this thing does it all: audio interface, audio mixer w/eq, compression and verb, an SD field recorder and it's a control surface. What more could you ask for? Well, I wouldn't mind two more pre's but hey, I am very satisfied with this. Great stuff! Highly recommended!!
Comments about Cakewalk V-Studio 100 Portable Music Studio:
I purchased the V-Studio 100 because I was looking for an audio interface for my new computer. I was originally thinking of just getting a dedicated audio interface that would sit at my desk but then I heard abut the V-Studio 100 and saw that it was way more versatile than anything else in its price range. It's great to be able to record at home but also take it to my practice space and just record to the SD card. And it's also a control surface and mixer which is really an added bonus. I really love this unit and I am glad I purchased it.
Comments about Cakewalk V-Studio 100 Portable Music Studio:
In the past I used Line 6 gear to record music. I own a Pod XT live and a Studio UX2. I also use an Alesis Firewire 12 mixer, but it only works with my XP Computer. It does not work with my vista 64 Machine. my vista laptop does not have firewire. I was looking for something that had USB 2.0 and had the ability to record more than two tracks at a time. I used Sonar 8 Producer Edition. I know they have good customer support. So I decided to try this product. I bought it from musicians friend last week. and I have been running test ever since. This is what I foundFirst the positives. It has better latency than my line 6 and Alesis gear. This is because my line 6 gear is USB 1.0. It also seems to do a better job recording a sound wave at different sample rates. It works on every machine I have with no problems. This is a complete setup that comes with all the software you will need. Sonar VS has a easy to understand interface. It even has some features that are not found in Sonar's Producer Edition. While the V Studio is plugged into the computer it will allow you to record up to 8 tracks that can be routed through 6 different outputs. I have got the best sounding recordings ever using this device. Now for the negitives. I am not that impressed with the stand alone wave recorder. When it is unpluged from the machine you can record onto a SD card. I put an 8 gig card into the reader and tried it. even though you can use all 8 inputs to record a track remotely without a computer. You can only record one mono or one stereo track at a time. I could only get it to let me listen to one previously recorded track while I over dubed. When I imported the tracks on to the computer from the VS100 it switch the VS100 into card reader mode which allowed you to use it as a stand alone card reader. The only problem with that is in that mode it switches off the vs100 as a recording device. I had to study the manual to figure out how to change it back. The learning curve on this thing is kind of high. They could of put together a better manual. Sonar Producer has a lot more features that I wish were included with VS Sonar. I like the vs interface better in VS Sonar.all in all I am getting the highest quality recordings of my life with this thing. Even with the wave recorder the recording quality is high, and the hardware is reliable. That is why I gave a 5.0 on the quality rating
