The Cerwin Vega CVA-28 is a totally integrated, matched, and optimized active speaker system that provides powerful sound in a small, modular package. The system configuration starts with an innovative, 3-way, dual 8" design. The dual 8" configuration was chosen for optimized directivity and extremely clean, off-axis response. The custom-designed Cerwin-Vega drivers also provide superior power handling, tight bass and refined mid-range. Finally, a compression driver is placed in the center of the top woofer in a concentric configuration. This design provides time-aligned high frequencies for incredible detail and imaging.
Matched to the impressive transducer array of the CVA-28 speaker is a 400-watt integrated 3-way amplifier. With 800 watts peak output, the amplifier includes a dedicated EQ contour switch optimized for high SPL situations. A Sub/No Sub switch allows users to roll off the low end when used with a dedicated subwoofer, eliminating competing frequencies in the system. Connections include microphone, line, and instrument inputs through XLR and quarter-inch connectors.
The active speaker can be mounted or installed in a myriad of ways thanks to integrated fly points, flyware kits, pole mount, and dual- and triple-speaker mount accessories. With or without its ActiveSeries subwoofer partners, the CVA-28 is among the best sounding active full range speakers in its class. Whether it's hip-hop, jazz, bluegrass, or rock-and-roll, it provides the performance, power, and flexibility you just can't find elsewhere. If i had a complaint it would be the gain noice , that may very well be my board . you won't hear it unless you are 3 feet away or less
I have used these weekly for the last 2 years and will buy 2 more this year . I came up through the school of experimentatation various brands and systems over the last 15 years on stage ,largerly doing karaoke shows , weddings and private parties . The progression was peavy ,( spx 15 's ) for about 5 years , they were great , next was yamaha 15's club series , they were richer , next was the move to active speakers which were the Mackie duals , which sounded awesome , but i defected out both within the warranty period and concluded they were not realiable enough for on stage . Then i came to the cva28's . they have never missed a beat . I have a pro audio guy that gives me feedback on the sound and mix at my shows . It is hands down without any question the best speaker i have ever worked with except bose .lot of kick , ample bass without sub in a 50 plus people room , roughly 5000 sq ft ( of course that depends on the room ) .I looked at the jbl prx635 as an upgrade , but what i will do is expand what has brought the crowd for the last 2 years , due to the quality of sound .

I sure there are better , how much do you want to spend ? These do the job extremly well for a good price

It is possible to get fantastic sound sound two full-range 8" drivers. This array takes advantage of well-known principles of acoustics and speaker-dispersion, so it's a great idea.After researching the components and specs, I have determined that I can build a better unit, with better components for less than half of what these go for... and that's buying the speakers at retail!Nice try... but these are WAY over priced!

This is speaker is heavy, but for its size it is freaking amazing! Go compare of these little bad boys to a Mackie, JBL, QSC...no comparison!

I purchased a set of Cerwin Vega CVA-28 active three way speaker as a set of multipurpose speakers that would see duty as FOH for a smooth jazz combo and DJ duties for small to medium venues. Cewin prides themselves as the LOUD speaker company and that is what these are. Infact they sound great, only at medium to ear splitting levels, below noraml PA levels, the mids and highs are over powered by the deep bass. Crank the volume and the effect is amazing, they PUNCH and KICK, just massive very balanced and clean acurate walls of sound. Curiously the sound does not change in different parts of the room, much less directional than one would expect. A pair combined with the 18" sub was more than enough for a rock a room of 300 people. "Hey, no conversing on the dance floor." or at the front tables for that matter. Bottom line, give um some SPL and they out perform everything in their price range, they also weren't bad as a pair of floor monitors which was shocking. Only cons are the chiped paint finish is brittle and flakes off easily from any compound curved surface, and they're plent heavy. Overall very pleased.
