There's no denying the many features these lights bring to bear that no other system has done before. The design is excellent with the ease of set-up, transport cases, super economical performance, multiple performance modes, light weight, and overall coolness! My band replaced a tree of 4 par 38 cans with these and the upgrade has been fantastic! Just a huge improvement accross the board! They are plenty bright, exude a super-effective wash since all four cans can now be any color, unlike the old 'one-gel, one color' design, they set up in literally two minutes, are easy to use, light-weight, and everyone in our band just loves them! Rarely have I been so impressed and so satisfied with the 'performance vs. the hype' of a product. But this light system delivers on all its promises.Yes, as others have said here, the build quality could be improved - nothing major, but you know, knucklehead stuff. Ours were missing one of the screws that hold the stand legs together. A trip to the hardware store fixed that, but it was annoying. But other than that, I hafta give these lights two thumbs up and 'green light' anyone who is considering them to go ahead and purchase with confidence. We're gonna buy another set so we can hit both sides of the stage in larger rooms. For smaller rooms, or for duos or singles, one is plenty! So go ahead and buy these. You will not be sorry. There's simply nothing else like them on the market!

I won't buy another one. My business requires my band to play outside a lot and you can't use these outside. From now on, I'll put my money into a more professional digital system that can be used in any environment. Also, the fact that 2 of the 3 units I bought have locked up on white indicates to me that this is going to be a problem for anyone who plans on using these lights more than occasionally. The cases the lights come in offer good protection, but won't last long if you're using them professionally.
I initially bought 2 of these systems for my small stage set up. As everybody says...easy set up and easy to run. But within about 2 months one of the footswitches went out. Lucky I still had the second system footswitch because I couldn't buy another one without buying the whole system. Then, one system locked up on white and I have not been able to get anyone with Chauvet or MF to tell me how to reset it without sending the unit in. So I bought a third system to replace it while I get the locked up system fixed. BUT....then a second unit locked in white mode within just a couple of weeks. Again, no help from Chauvet or MF without sending the unit in. The cost of shipping and repair, along with the down time, make it more cost effective to buy a new system. But who can afford $400 bucks every 3-4 months? So....I went back to using my old standby PAR 38 and PAR 46 sytems. Also, you can't use these systems outside and a great deal of my business occurs outside during the spring and summer months. While set up and transport is easy, it's not worth the cost when you'll have to replace it or repair it in just a few months.
The system is built pretty well, but easily locks up. The footswitches are plastic and break easily if you use them a lot. The case it comes in is adequate, but not roadworthy. Also, Chauvet does not provide an adequate manual to tell you how to reset the units. They want you to send it in for repair. This makes it cost prohibitive to working bands.
At $400 bucks, it is a little pricey if you have to repair or replace it every few months. Don't plan on having it repaired because the shipping costs, repair costs, and down time make it more convenient to just buy another one.

Great lights - lightweight, reliable, tough, bright

Comments about Chauvet DJ 4Bar LED System:

Pick up a set, then you will end up getting your second set. You won't be dissappointed.
I bought my first set of these lights about three years ago, and a second set a few months after that. I have used these lights in 40+ gigs since, and they have been a great addition to both DJing and live performance shows. The sound sensitivity needs to be tweaked to calm them down sometimes, but that is the same for *any* sound sensitive light system. I recently starting running a controller and am using the DMX 512 - a nice feature. I highly recommend to purchase - the case they come with is tough and lightweight - it stores nicely with the rest of the gear and keeps the lights scratch free.
And of course being LED they draw diddly squat for power, so you never have to worry about overloading circuits.
Good quality - no breaks in 40+ gigs, case has even held up nice.
Just add lights! It's always helps the show.

Comments about Chauvet DJ 4Bar LED System:

Nice, easy lights and a good case.Forget about the sound activation adjustment thing. For a sorta regular band, the mic either doesn't pick up and the lights don't change or they go absolutely crazy with a zillion changes per bar of music.(seizure inducing stuff). Needs a dmx controller. Last program on the pedal is usable. Blackout is good.3 gigs in, I'm a little bent about the inability of the lights to actually catch a rock beat. Just sayin'. Still def gonna keep 'em though.

Chauvet 4BAR

Comments about Chauvet DJ 4Bar LED System:

Bought a pair of these units for our band. They replaced 16 PAR-38 cans that we used on tree's. The positives: Simple/very quick to set up, ease of use, carrying case, NO HEAT!!, low electrical draw (bonus points!)and good value for the money. Negatives: construction quality could be better. Where this is plastic, metal would have been better. Tree's are a little flimsy but they do the job. Was hoping for a little more brightness but it works. We usually play on a 24-32' long stage(with a tree on each side) and they do cover the stage in a fairly good wash. However, we do use other lighting(scanners, strobes,lite-bars)in conjunction with these. Overall, the positives out way the negatives by far. Would recommend for a club/bar band. helpful review??

Comments about Chauvet DJ 4Bar LED System:

The only negative to the product is that the manual is not helpful. There is a revised manual online which is much more informative.

Note, if you want to run 2 at once with the "master-slave" configuration run by one footswitch, it's a 3 step process.

      1) make sure both units are set to "auto" with the "d.1" setting. The revised manual can help you do this if you get confused.

      2) make sure the footswitch is in the unit that is the "master" (i.e. has the 3-pin cable in the "out" slot)

      3) turn on both units at the same time. This is important! I use a power-strip with an on-off button.

      4Bar review

      By Timothy Yuettner

      from New England

Comments about Chauvet DJ 4Bar LED System:

The case for the lights is cool but the bag for stand is pretty cheap. I really do like this product but there is room for improvement.
Very cool idea. Fast set up. Simply operation.
The lighting housing is plastic and therefore fragile. The plastic on the stand is fragile too. I found one broken upon delivery. I had three units delivered to me (one to replace the broken stand.) Each one had an issue. I had to take apart two of the light fixtures to address the connection to the back of the circuit board. The connector had fallen out of one and the ground pin had come out of the connector on the other. I was able to fix these issues relatively easily but I shouldn't have had to! Also, the 4Bar doesn't fit in the case with the set screw, that holds the 4bar in place on the stand, in place. Bad design!
I believe it is worth the money, because it is reasonably priced. However, the plastic parts concern me with long-term use. Time will tell.

      Great Design - Cheap Quality

      By Aston

      from Boston

Comments about Chauvet DJ 4Bar LED System:

I just ordered my second set of Chauvet 4-Bars from Musician's Friend. I got two years out of the first set, but quality issues like failing plastic parts, screws falling out, and poor controls made me retire this one and try again. Why would I order ANOTHER after such a lousy report?Because the DESIGN of these lights is AWESOME people! If you are a SINGLE or DUO these lights are the best ever in terms of how great they perform. Trios and quartets should simply buy two sets. They give GREAT coverage, no heat, flexibility, and a good foot controller. Now the negatives: Crappy build quality means you'll be chasing screws, repairing the stand, and never making any sense of the manual which is terrible at best. You can still get great results just slogging through the pre-sets. But programming these things is impossible for the average musician.Still though - as long as they turn ON, you will LOVE the color, coverage, and quality of the LIGHT! It represents a HUGE improvement over bulbs and par cans.I'm gonna put the old set in my lesson room and put the new set on the show. Ideally, I would love to have two sets on every show - not cuz I need the second set, but I just want the luxury of even more lucious LED light! Put up with Chauvet's crappy build-quality and buy these lights for your act and you will NEVER look back! There's simply nothing on the market that comes close to them for the working musician.

      Awesome set of lights

      By James Meder

      from Minnesota

Comments about Chauvet DJ 4Bar LED System:

These 4 Bars are incredible, I was apprehensive on the whole lighting thing as I am new to DJing. I called and spoke with a very knowledgeable associate. He hooked me up with the coolest set up , and saved me tons of money as I had thought I would need several different light options. I was told these 4 Bars were cool, but I had no idea how cool. They kick out tons of light, when needed, can run sound active or thru DMX, I actually bought another set within days of my first gig. I would recommend these to anyone who wants to dj, they would even work great fow a band.

I admit, tech support is minimal. The videos are the most helpful. I have two units, and wanted them to react the same via one foot pedal. The answer is plug in one pedal and plug dmx out of that unit, to dmx in to the second one. Then set them both to dmx. The first one acts as the master and the second as the slave. Both will react the same to the pedal. No one seemed to know that. I figured it out muself.
