This is my first "professional" lighting system, though I have foot-lighting I sometimes use to back-wash a stage. As a jazz musician I have less need for full-featured lighting, but I needed a professional looking system for a high-end engagement. The Chauvet Par 38 System provides the features I need. Since I don't require fancy chase features, the 16 pre-programmed audio activated feature is more than adequate. The "full on"/ "black=out" foot pedal allows me to control the lights from my stage position. The cans and stand look great and including the gels is a major convenience.Documentation is poor, and since this was my first system of this type, I found I wasted a lot of time in my first set-up. I discovered that the stand's top section had to be almost fully extended before the second section cotter pins could be used. It also took me a while to figure out the toggle sequence between full on and chase from the footswitch. Indeed, the footswitch appears to be the only way to bring the lights full on. I found that mounting the controller after the can placement works wellI recommend this system for those who need basic lighting that looks professional.

After reading the reviews I knew the purchase was going to be a gamble. Out of the box the light sockets were loose and the controller did not work. I tightened all the hardware, took a look inside the controller and found wiring not soldered. Works now. So.....I bought another set knowing what to look for. Next set all hardware loose, and top T bracket welds were broken. Two cans were bent up in shipping. Again fixed them myself. Linked them together and they work like they are suppose to. Overall, a good buy if you realize you will be tuning them up yourself or sending back bad parts. Build a travel box they will not last unprotected.

Second set

Well, my band just bought our second set and we couldn't be happier with what we got for the money spent. We also bought the linking cable to run between two light trees. With the the linking cable, one click of a single foot switch and the whole stage goes dark for a dramatic effect. This is a sweet frickin deal for anyone looking to not spend a bundle on a lighting system. Get your's today!

Nice basic setup

By Jeff-Out of the fire band

from Council Bluffs, Ia

I added this lighting setup as an addition to our show. we were so impressed, I purchased 4 more cans. I'm running 8 off the controller now. the look of the cans is very professional. For the band that does not have a full time light man, this is the way to go.

Get what you pay for

You get quite a bit for the price, however the stand is on the cheap side and the light controller could do a better job of keeping the beat. The foot pedal is a great idea. The lights themselves are good quality, and they actually come with gells.Compared to the American DJ equivalent, the Chauvet lights are better, the footswitch is nice, gells are included, and the stand is about the same. However the light controller on the ADJ version is by far a higher quality product.

You get what you pay for.

By Anonymous

This light set absolutely fell apart under heavey gigging. The cheap stand actually gave out and fell on our guitar player when he was playing. We have since thrown the stand away and hang it from hooks in the ceiling where ever we play. The flash feature goes way to fast, even when it is all the way down, and the floor pedal wire got ripped up and has had to be repaired within the first week. Light bar is nice for hanging, the rest is junk....

Overflow 2008

Just got these in and set them up last night. I was very impressed. I was not expecting what I got. For the money I can't think of a better deal. I am waiting on the linking cable, but the foot switch works perfect also. I suggest this product for anyone who is needing a light show and is on a budget or just needs a kit to ad to a lightshow they already have.

double

By ViohR_xjk

As a DJ for about 3 years Ive been learning what to buy and what not to buy. I recently started doing sound for a country singer and bought these lights for small gigs. I was very impressed. I run the lights for 4 to 5 hours straight they stay cool and give me no problems. The light stand could be better but seems to hold them ok and the controller works great. It's supposed to have 16 different patterns but there all about the same you wont notice much of a difference. Overall for the money Well worth buying...

What the buzz??

By Grimmy

This light set looks great on paper, but when I plugged it in, it caused a crazy loud hum that made it completely worthless to me. It's there to enhance the band, but if it's ruining the sound, then what good is it?I'd rather play in complete darkness with no hum.

Great Deal for Price

By TINMAN (BASS)

I got the lights in and unpacked them. I set them up in about 15 minutes. I set them up in my front room by the stereo, I turned them on and they work great just with the stereo, Can't wait till we use them at a gig. My buddy bought a pair also and for the price we think we got a good deal. They will add alot to our performances.

More thorough instructions need to be in the manual for the System, as well as instructions nice and complete on how to pack this unit into the travel bag for it, there were no instructions at all in the travel bag, none! Quality wise, it appears to be a good unit. We'll be using it in Las Vegas and Laughlin, NV and possibly in Alaska this summer with our band the Golden State Dixieland Ramblers, the first Dixieland Band at the Original Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif.

Great starting point!

By The Illinois Cowboy

from Princeville, IL

This is a really good product right out of the box. The whole package came pretty well packed, and once assembled, everything worked really well. Figuring out that with the switch, you can flip back and forth between chase and wash modes, and the blackout resets it. The stand is pretty heavy for an inexpensive product, and the whole package is pretty well balanced, and expands as a linkable system. Can't wait to take this out to some gigs and put it to the test.

Will buy another set

By Open Range

For the price, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was surprised at what I got for how little it cost! Went togather rather easily. Chauvet could spend a little more on instructions, but give yourself a couple of minutes, and it all comes togather. A couple of small glitches, but not enough to prevent buying another set. One, make sure to carefully inspect each bulb. They will come installed, but remove them! I had one that the threaded base was so corroded, that it seperated from the bulb. I had more 150 w lamps, so no big deal. The mounting bolts for the light cans came furnished with an allen wrench. Only problem, the bolts take a standard screwdriver. Also, the bolt and wingnut's are somewhat cumbersome, especially if your hands are cold!! I am going to look for a C-clamp of some sort to mount the cans to the cross bar. The foot controller is a great idea, and works well. The cans will take some extra care when hauling, but so should any electronic piece of equipment. I tend to be pretty fussy about hauling and handling. So, if you are particular about your gear anyway, they will do fine. So, go ahead, give them a try.

Can't Be Beat For The Money

What can I say? A sweet setup for the price. Stand is a little light weight, and Gel frames kind of cheap, but you will not find a better value on a light system

Everything I expected

It just delivers everything it advertises. For a very attractive price you get simplicity without sacrificing function. If you have to transport it, you'll need a gig bag that will cost half as much as the light package, or more depending on the style you choose. Too bad they don't offer one with the purchase.

I bought this light set about 3 years ago and they work great for what you pay. I use them in a practice room and do not travel with them, so a setup like this is perfect for my application.

Rah!

This machine literally caught on fire. The fuse bursted and the lightbulb popped and shot a piece of glass at my Fifth baby George. Previously my guitar wall hanger snapped and the guitar fell on him. He has not had much luck lately. Now he has 8 bruises on his head, a masculant scar, and his chin is shriveled. Rah!

This is my first purchase for lighting for my band/dj services. They are really simple to use. And DON'T GET HOT! I thought that they would be very hard to handle when breaking down, but they always seem cool to the touch. Great Value for the money!

getting another

My band looks to me to pick out our gear & we needed lights. I've ALWAYS had a "you get what you pay for" kinda mindset my whole life & when I saw this I wasn't sure what to think of it because of the low price. But I figured if we get them and they're junk we can send them back or find some high school kids willing to buy them. When the package came I put them together and was really surprised at how well they worked. Sure they were a little flimsy, but we've taken care of them and have had no problems. In fact, we are going to get another set and the linking cable.
