I received this followspot along with some other stage lighting (2 lighting stage systems) from musicians friend for a very small children's theatre group, and was pleasantly surprised as to the quality of construction. Heeding others advice to carefully not strip the cheap screw, I cautiously opened the bulb compartment, and examined the bulb. I have to say being a professional lighting designer and master electrician, this folowspot does not even hold a candle (no pun intended) to a 2000+ watt xenon Lycian fixture. Of course it must be said that this small, easy to set and use, cheap followspot is less then 1/36 the price of such said unit. One of my only concerns, is the cheap screw I found. Are there more of these hidden where I cant see them?? I certainly haven't replaced any of those.
One word of caution: for any body out there thinking about using these with anything brighter than a par 46, a strongly encourage you to look at a brighter followspot such as an altman comen, 1000q, or lycian clubspot. Don't even dream about using these things with fresnels or ellipsoidal reflector spotlights (ERS). Oh and the little star gobo things, throw them out, there just stupid!

Easily sets up and breaks down in a minute, nice set of manual controls for gels and brightness. Haven't used it with DMX. Lens sliders are a bit basic but do the job as long as you're not trying to actively use them while actually following the talent. Used mostly as a fixed front fill with great results.

This is my second purchase of this same unit. The first one was six or seven years ago, the same unit then was much heavier and solid in feel and weight and did not burn bulbs so quickly. Still works great and function the same. Had to change one component on the circuit board after many hours of use but works perfect after that minor repair.

After owning and using this light for a few years, I decided to purchase another one. Now using two of them on my shows really intensifies the stage productions. Exelent for anything up to 80 ft throws! Chauvet has done their homework on this light. For the price, quality construction, and ease of use, you just can't beat it for the price. I recommend this follow spot for anyone trying to upgrade a stage production. I just recently purchased my third one. I recommend purchasing a quality case and custom foam lining it like I have all three of mine in. Quality lighting is worth protecting!!!

              Satisfied!
When I was looking for a cheap spot light, I have to admit that when I found this one I was a little sceptical. Because usually when something is to good to be true, it is! But when I recieved it and fired this puppy up, I was SHOCKED! The brightness, color, and simplicity of this unity just blew me away. Im a youth pastor and I needed this to light our platform area for a childrens skit and It worked great. The platform was 75ft. to 80ft. away and it still had a crisp color and texture. Dont be thrown by the price, ITS WORTH IT. The reason I gave an 8 on rating was only because when it was sent to me, it didnt have a bulb in it and I had to call and get one sent. At least I got my light and 1 bulb.

I had read the reviews on this spot and was happy with what I had read. When I called Chavuet they answered all my questions on the spot. We have a shoot distance of around 40 feet in our small commuity theatre. This spot hits the back wall and give off an amazing amount of light. I did not use the provided nuts and bolts that came with the spot I instead went to the hardware store and purchased my own. I also went on ebay to divine lighting and bought replacemnt bulbs. This is a great product if you have a small space and dont need to shoot more than 50 feet.

              Good light, a little fragile

Comments about Chauvet Followspot 400G with Stand:

These are a great bang for the buck, IF (that is) you are not transporting them often.
This light was suprising at how good it works. The beam throw is awesome and illumnates well at 50'. The DMX Controls are great and you can dim the bulb as well as change the color. They are a little cheaply made though and work fine in a hard mounted location, transporing them will lead to breakage.
I got two, one was fine out of the box exept for the lens adjust handles. Only one was tapped with threads and I had to use a nut. The other one out of the box was assembled so tight that the screws were all stripped and broken. I had to return that to get another light which works fine.

Why Did I Wait So Long!

Comments about Chauvet Followspot 400G with Stand:

For decades I have been performing concerts for communities, banquets, retirement communities, performing arts, etc. So many times there is no lighting. I thought a spot light would run me over a thousand dollars. I found this Chauvet Followspot 400G with Stand on Musicians Friend website for just over $200.00 .... WOW! ... wish I had found this decades ago. It works perfect for me. I set it up across the room, turn it on, then go jump on the stage and do the show. Works very simple. I did need to buy a new bulb after the first gig, but it was cheap, I think $5.00, and now I am a little more careful not to jar the light in transport.... if that is why it burned out, not sure. It has been working fine with no burned out bulbs for 6 months now. I recommend buying an extra bulb to have on hand.Awesome addition to my show. I think it makes a huge difference for me, and sets me apart and way above the other acts that perform banquets and small concerts.... for such a little investment! William Florian

This is an inexpensive unit that does the job. Great tool for Mardi Gras Balls. Lots of functions you need for a small show. When I received mine the lamp was missing but Musicians Friend compensated for it. I had zero problems finding a replacement lamp for less than 10 bucks. Consider purchasing the stand with casters. I did and it saved me from losing the King & Queens in the crowd during their grand entrance.
