Update on lights

By Amjam 185

Comments about Chauvet LED PAR 38 System:

This is an update on my previous reviewplay". I have re-rated the total package down a little because I believe that for the price, they could have given you better stands;. I made the y-connector using a different stero cable I had around the house, worked perfectly. Now I can make the lights do whatever I want. Like I said, it takes some figuring the system out as it is not just "push and the controllers seem as if they send them out without even checking them. This doesnt say much for quality control at Chauvet. I went so far as to open the controllers up to check the wiring (thinking that they were just wired backwards) didnt help and when I rewired it the way the other one was, did not help! All that being said, lights are VERY cool, don't even get warm to the touch! Very bright!

par 38 lights

Comments about Chauvet LED PAR 38 System:

Lights are very bright and very cool. Stands are somewhat weak and the fasteners did break. I had to replace with a hose clamp. I have not replaced the stands even though I have stated that they are weak, they are holding up and I will use them until they break. I bought two sets and the controllers are really bad. One of them I can not figure out. The other is complicated but it does work (not as easy as you would think). The sound activated mode works great. I purchased the CH DIN 20 linking cable (waste of money). I can get the lights to all turn on but then it only operates one light after that (tried all different combination) and got an electrical engineer friend who couldn't figure it out. Am planning to use stereo Y-connectors (as someone suggested) and see how that works. All that said, the lights are bright and look really nice.

word of caution

Comments about Chauvet LED PAR 38 System:

After much shopping and comparing, I purchased two of these systems, primarily because, being LED, they would run cool, and because they were 'linkable'. The lights themselves work great - very bright, and cool. The linking cable purchased for that purpose does not work. After much discussion and head scratching both with Musician's Friend and by myself, I finally accomplished the 'linking' by building a stereo Y-junction box and converting the 60'long 5-pin DIN linking cable to a 1/4" stereo cable, thereby splitting one of the foot controllers to operate both systems. Worked like a charm.

Ask me a question

Comments about Chauvet LED PAR 38 System:

I got two of these in the summer of 2008, instead of the Elation system which was then priced the same, and overall I have to say I've been fairly happy with them. But I've had two problems: 1. The grommet that secures the power cord came out of one of the cans and I've had to glue it in with some pretty stiff epoxy to keep it in place. You can't see it when the system is in use, but it is a flaw that I know about.2. The 3-way plastic leg mounts and adjustment knobs at the top of the stand legs WILL BREAK. Both of my stands have broken knobs AND leg mounts, and I've had to have a set of mounts machined from black anodized aluminum. In fact, the stands are supposed to extend to nine feet (I notice they've dropped that claim back to seven feet in this listing), but getting them anything over eight feet makes them really wobbly and unstable. When they were the same price as the Elation Par 38 system, the Chauvets were a better value because they came with the bulbs. But at this price, the Elation system has much better stands. Just saying.

Foot Controller is Flaky

By aGreatShow

Comments about Chauvet LED PAR 38 System:

I got this package to light a small theater stage. The cans work very well and give plenty of good quality light. The foot controller never worked right and was un-usable; tapping on it gave completely random results and its 'black-out' feature worked 50% of the time. I ended up buying a powerstrip that had individual on-off switches to control the lights. The stand needs to be properly balanced or it will fall over. If you are just after the lights and timer controller, I'd recommend buying them separately, and passing on the stand and foot controller.
