If you are a small band or a home musician that wants some control over a small lighting set up to make you feel like a rockstar in your playroom, then the Obey 10 probably has the flexability you need.
You can program a number of scenes to avoid messing with dimmers everytime the tempo changes.
I would not want to take this on the road with me as the build quality is dodgy. The channel and effect sliders feel cheap and fragile and the buttons dont have a reassuring clunk when pressed making you feel this thing can fall off a table or truck and still perform.
The lack of a master dimmer is also a glaring oversight. The blackout feature will bring down the lights when needed but if you want to dim the entire scene you better have fingers that can work in harmony.

Bought one of these as we wanted to change our existing unit for a rack mounted one and boy did I make a mistake!
Chauvet's designers should be awarded the prize for the worst design conceivable. The unit works perfectly, does what it says on the box as they say but it is NOT suitable for rack mounting.
To start with the holes for rack mounting are not in the standard places, requiring a 1/2 U space above and below the unit meaning it actually sits in the middle of a three U space. Why? Well this is to do with the configuration of the connectors.
It is difficult to imagine who came up with the idea of putting the DMX connector and the power connector, not to mention the power switch ON THE TOP of the unit! Mount it in a rack and the connections stick out above the unit preventing you getting to them or putting it at the top of a rack or having anything in the space above it. This has to be the worst imaginable design, rendering it useless for the purpose for which it is allegedly designed, rack mounting.
What's worse is that when I looked at the manual before purchasing it it showed what it called the rear panel, with the connections. Whoever wrote the manual must have had it sitting on the desk in front of them with the controls at the top to be able to call the top panel (when mounted in a rack) the rear.
Buy it if you really want it, it's certainly easy to use, but don't even consider it if you are thinking of putting it into a rack.
Does what it claims to and is easy to program, rack mounting not an option though despite what they claim, see my overall opinion.
Seems well enough built if you exclude the idiotic design of the case and connections, see later.
Qould be good value for money if it could actually be fitted into a standard rack.

Comments about Chauvet Obey 10 DMX Lighting Controller:
Just got 4 Venue Thin Par 64 lights and this Obey 10 DMX controller. First experience with these....so it took a little bit to get them going but now that I have figured it out WOW the possibilities are infinite. Has 6 chases that you set up and then can control them in Auto Mode by adjusting the Speed controller - or in Sound Mode with changes by the beat of the music. 6 Chases * but each chase can have from 1 to 999 steps !!
Pros
- Easy to set up
- WORKS GREAT
Cons
- 6 Months Life Span
Best Uses

Comments about Chauvet Obey 10 DMX Lighting Controller:
This unit has way to many features for what I wanted. The manual is little or no help unless you are a lighting tech! Probably a good controller for a regular, working lighting tech.

It's fast and easy to use and understand for live controling of dmx lighting even with complex moving head lights with 14 channels

Comments about Chauvet Obey 10 DMX Lighting Controller:
this is an all around great product, the second I got it I plugged it in, hooked it up to a dimmer pack and it worked amazingly. it is very easy to use, it has all the features I wanted, (dimming, programing, ect.). I use it as my main board/controller. I will always stick with the obey 10 and/or obey Series, overall great controller.
Comments about Chauvet Obey 10 DMX Lighting Controller:
1. Manual makes hooking it up very easy, but I have a mild understanding of dipswitches;2. The manual does not include a couple valuable pieces of information, such as the programmable chases are "toggle" switches, which turn on and off. You are then able to sequence multiple chases, but it does not thoroughly explain that;3. The machine works exactly as one would predict. You program it like drawing cell animation. Everything for one "Frame" (scene) then hit enter, and do the next scene. 4. Probably took about 2-4 hours of just playing to get it perfect.5. Truly, for the price it is a great investment, especially since you can rack mount it or table top.We find it perfect for Bar/Concert hall gigs and run it with our Chauvet LEDRain 38's.
Comments about Chauvet Obey 10 DMX Lighting Controller:
That's what it'll cost you in the end.Worked great for 3 months, had it an a rack the whole time, then one day just started flickering and refused to work correctly anymore.Gonna try DMX software for my laptop instead now.
Comments about Chauvet Obey 10 DMX Lighting Controller:
The buttons are not very responsive and sometimes double click when you only meant to hit it once. The sliders are also impossible to hit certain values directly. The manuals are difficult to understand and don't cover all of the features. The microphone is so insensitive it almost doesn't work, and the rack mounting holes don't really line up properly.I'd advise against this, and if they are using most of the same parts with their other controllers then I wouldn't be surprised if they functioned the same as well.It IS cheap, though.
