The Crown XLS 5000 power amp delivers 1800 watts per channel in four-ohm stereo mode, and a staggering 5000 watts in four-ohm bridge-mono mode. Housed in a rugged, 3U, all-steel chassis, the highly reliable XLS 5000 is equipped with an efficient forced-air fan to prevent excessive thermal buildup. The front panel sports dual precision-detented rotary level controls, a power switch with accompanying LED, and six additional LEDs indicating signal, clip, and fault for each channel. I owned this amp,"XLS-5000" since July/2010 and must say unlimited power with lots and lots of headroom.
However after setting up amp on 10/15/11 at an outside gig temp was 60 degrees I turned it on with volume pods turned down to zero and continued with the remainder of my set-up including speakers and mixer,etc. After 10-15 mins pop yes I hear a loud pop and see the amp has turned off due to power strip breaker turning off. I did this several times with same result, then assuming it was a weak or bad power strip, I removed the plug from the power strip and pugged directly into the wall outlet. The amp goes into protection mode with the lights blinking and the upper circuit breaker on back of amp turning off. I then disconnected the imputs/outputs and tried again several times by the four occurence the amp started to smoke, end of story. This amp has never run at full power, the pods are only slightly above the Mid-Volume Mark. Considering this amp is quite heavy 62lbs + the case equals=70lbs and build like a TigerTank, I am surprised that this occurred. Possible explanation is that I store my amp outside in the van. Could turning the amp on without a warm-up have caused this? Keep in mind this was an outside gig at 5:00pm with temp 55-60 degrees. The tech-reps at Crown say no problem with storing an amp in the Van.. Here's another senario a year prior a similar senario occured with my CE-2000, except it was an indoor gig in June. After the amp was on for 2-3 mins with imputs/outputs connected the amp started smoking and sparking, end of story.. I then connected my backup amp to same speakers & mixer and performed for a 5 hr wedding with no problems. This amp had been setting in my van for the past two years without being used. Keep in mind it was June/2010 and quite warm. I've been Djing for 18 years and always keep my amps in the van and never had a problem like this before.

Bought this amp (Factory B-stock) back in November of 2008. Never been dissatisfied with it or the performance, but if I had to do it again, I'd probably get 2 Macro-Tech 3600 amps rather than a single 5000watt amp. Don't get me wrong - the headroom this gives you is INCREDIBLE, but having to run it on a NEMA-20 plug and make sure that every venue (I use a portable rig) is wired for 20amps is a bit of a pain. Like I said, though, this amp gives me more headroom than I need with running subs. I run 2 single 18's off it now (B-52 VX18) and it allows them to fill any venue completely. It runs cool, reproduces cleanly, and hasn't given me any trouble yet. I rated it 4.0 on features because with this you sacrifice some of the routing options that you see in the Macro-Tech 5000. Other than that it is simple and pretty flexible. I use a few XLS amps, Crest amps, and some Crown CE series and this amp is by far my favorite. Save yourself some money, too and go for the B-stock but DO NOT buy used from an unauthorized dealer!! Enjoy your volume :)

I hunted for months to find the perfect amp for my subs. The macrotech was out of my price range. And class H or I just won't cut it. I needed raw power. Brute force, on a budget. Very hard to come by. Then crown made this offering. After a call to crown about it's operating class (AB+B btw), I was sure this was the one. I've been running 2 McCauley 6174's since april 08' with this beast. I couldn't be happier. Not one flaw. this amp keeps putting out. It's so much power I could hurt people if I so choose! I love it!
