I purchased two units a few years ago when Crown introduce this line of amplifiers. Purchased two more recently. I DJ and run a midsize PA for local events. The Xs1200 offer more power and weigh less than the Mackie 1400i's I used previously. I use various JBL cabs from subs to monitors. They all work perfect with plenty headroom to spare. The amps paired with Mpro418 subs are knockouts. The last two Xs1200s purchased run at 15A, which is preferred vs 20A when the amps were introduced...I guess Crown got the message. The bang for the price is well worth it.
I was impressed with the Crown XS1200 to drive monitors. The daisy-chaining thru's on the back are a very nice touch, which makes wiring a rack easier. The 4 monitors we were using; all with the standard 12inch cones had a nice open, full sound but lacked a little punch. Probably due to the very low damping factor these amps have. It would be nice to see Crown increase this factor back upto the 1000+ range, similar to the old MA series. But all in all, a nice amp for the money.
I have had this amp for 2 years now and it is still running strong. It has a good amount of power and is right in the middle as far as weight goes (between an XTI and Peavey CS). There were 2 negatives off the bat but they were very small. One is that is very long and didn't fit into a normal skb type rack case. I had to get one special made. Might work ok in a long 18" amp case. The other is that the power cord needs an adapter cord to be plugged into a normal 3-prong outlet, so don't forget that cord. Other than that no complaints.
