I noticed some of the negative reviews here and felt the need to add some of my driverack experience to the reviews. First of all - Yes, it does take a little live sound experience, and a bit of learning to maximize the driverack. However, this unit is extremely flexible. Even without the RTA mic the driverack WILL cut feedback automatically, add both a graphic eq AND a parametric eq, plus limiting and compressing to your system - which honestly, even without the auto-eq and leveling is worth the price tag.People complaining about the auto-eq feature making the 'jet plane' sounds can still use the tool (either early enough before the gig where there are less people around or in the garage at home for the 30 seconds it takes). I just got the spec sheets for my speakers freq response and tailored the graphic eq to a nice, even 'flat' setting. Once you have that setting you can do anything you want to the sound with the parametric eq, and then I'm guessing you also have eq on your mixer to add a little more color to taste. The complaints about 'not having my speaker preset' is really nothing since its just a starting suggestion for where to turn your volume knob to, and a limiter setting. A little reading and a couple of hours using this unit and you WILL have a completely new pa system. In Fact, tonight I used it on my new Eon 515xt's and the sound was SO much clearer, less harsh, and more punchy after adding in a driverack.Regardless, do your homework, and when you add in this unit you will never do another gig without it - I know I won't

I have been using a Behringer Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496 processor between our unpowered mixer and powered speakers for several years. Due to a power spike the other day, the Behringer unit became damaged and had to be sent in for repair. In the meantime I needed something to replace it for live sound. From the magazine ads, the DBX DriveRack px sounded tantalizing. Although approximately $100 more than the Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496, I was eager to give it a try.Comparisons between the DBX and Behringer are going to be inevitable in this review as these units have very similar functions. The first thing I noticed was a smaller display with the DriveRack px which seemed unduly cluttered. Whereas the Behringer has a very user-friendly display showing exactly what you want to see via one or two pushes of a button and a spin of the data wheel. The DriveRack px's display seemed cryptic and hard to navigate. In a live performance, making quick changes in the Behringer's graphic EQ is a one-handed breeze; whereas with the DBX, it is cumbersome and non-intuitive. Even when I get up close to the display, it?s hard to tell if certain key parameters had been selected. The Behringer?s graphic EQ display is quickly and easily read from several feet away; and the ?Q? width can quickly be set so that EQ curves can be sculpted with ease. Unless I?m missing something, I didn?t see a ?Q? setting for the DBX - each band must be raised or lowered individually. As far as the RTA goes, out of several venues, the DriveRack was only able to do a acceptable job of setting the EQ in only one of those rooms. In the other environments, although I followed the Wizard's prompts faithfully, the EQ was typically bass-heavy with the lower bands boosted inordinately high. The whole ?preset? thing with existing brands of speakers smacked a bit of marketing hype. If the unit is going to analyze the signal present at the reference mic, does it make any difference if the pink noise is coming from EON10s or Mackie 350s? Also, I couldn?t find a preset for simply setting up a single speaker. The anti-feedback function seemed to work pretty well on the DriveRack px; although, due to the pickup pattern of mics I use (Shure Beta 87A) and careful speaker placement, I rarely have a problem with feedback anyway. I have found the anti-feedback feature of the Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496 to be fast and effective ? you can even see the graphic display dynamically changing as it finds and notches out troublesome frequencies. The DBX?s ?famous? over-easy compression seemed to do a lot of pumping even at conservative settings. (To be fair, I didn?t spend a whole lot of time with this feature.) Again, the display wasn?t as informative as the Behringer?s display for compression. With the Behringer you can actually see and modify the curve which is depicted graphically ? along with the threshold, level, ratio and slope. With the DBX it?s just numbers.Summary: I have been in the audio business for over 40 years as both a musician and studio owner. I?ve always been one to keep abreast of the latest technology, so I?m used to learning new equipment and software. However, I must say that I spent a lot of my time with the DriveRack px perplexed and scratching my head trying to navigate its confusing menus and deciphering its awkwardly-worded manual. From my experience with the two units, I must say that the Behringer Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496 can do everything that the DBX DriveRack px can do only much better; plus it does a whole lot more for a $100 less. The decision should be a no-brainer. In fact I packed up the DriveRack px today and sent it back in exchange for a second, Behringer Ultracurve Pro DEQ2496 for backup.

Comments about dbx DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer:
People say this is hard to use. However, the screen gives you all the directions you need.
I thought the feedback filter wasn't working but the DBX customer support answered every question in detail. The technical support seemed far more advanced than I'm used to experiencing with a business. It turned out that I wasn't using like I should and the equipment was fine.
I'm very happy with my purchase.
Please note that the PX Drive Rack only has presets for mid/high to low end speakers. For example, It has QSC K Searies presets but not QSC KW series. But it does have a custom setting that allows for any speaker to get set up if the preset isn't there.

Comments about dbx DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer:
It's easy to use if you can follow the directions on the screen. If you can figure out a smart phone or remote you can figure out the DR. The only thing I don't like is that the feedback filter doesn't seem to work as well as the one I purchased years ago. I just got my new DR so I'm hoping I'm just doing something wrong. I still love it and wouldn't go without it.

Comments about dbx DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer:
I purchased the JBL 535 powered speaker system a yeay and a half ago, coupled with the drive rack is nothing short of a mirical from heaven. I called DBX on the phone and one of there Techs told about a procedure to use while doing sound check. when it comes up to do the "EQ" portion of the test, move the condensor mic to about a foot from off the floor and point directly at either right or left speaker colums at a 45 degree angle and point it upward and then let the drive rack due it's thing while the "Pink" Noise" is active. this will give you a far better anaylasis of what your system is doing within the enviroment to which the performance. Did this at a gig in the local music hall that seats over 2 thousand, and with the use of all Sennheiser 945 mics (18) total The performance sounded nothing short of a very good studio recording.
Enough said.
Comments about dbx DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer:
Having one of the preset powered speakers might be easier, but even without one, using the custom option, the auto wizard took less than 10 minutes to configure the Leveling, EQ & Feedback Suppression and it never sounded better. Having a compressor/limiter and a PEQ is a big plus. I wouldn't hesitate buying another one for another set up. I have an engineering background and I must say that this was well thought out and constructed. If you're on the road a lot, this is a great tool to have to quickly set up your sound for the price.
Comments about dbx DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer:
I used the Driverack PA with my unpowered systems for years and loved it. Having recently switched to all powered products, the PX was a must-have. I cannot recommend these highly enough.
Comments about dbx DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer:
As a drummer who also has taken on the task of sound guy, I couldn't be happier with this product. It has cut sound check time down to almost nothing. Simple to use once you do it a few times. And tons of features packed into one rack space. I thought our system sounded pretty good until I finally tried out the Driverack. Amazing clarity, tons of headroom and a perfectly eq'd room in seconds. No more ringing the room! Its made my life alot easier and worth every penny.

Comments about dbx DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer:
i,ve been using for over a year and won't set up my rig without it the difference in the output and lowend is amazing. I use this unit with a presonus studiolive mixer, 2 qsc subs and 2 big mackie 3ways.none of these speakers are in the preset list btw. without the prx the rig lacks thump and punch. the prx is not the easiest to set up but once it is it rocks. u don't need the auto eq or all that crap. set all gain stages correctly, season the crossovers to taste and let it rip. this unit is not designed to adjust on the fly. if you can't get this thing to sound good you have to learn how to use it.
Comments about dbx DriveRack PX Powered Speaker Optimizer:
This is a great product & makes the pa sound great. dbx did a fantastic job "even if there are people who cant read the manual and then complain when they cant figure it out", dont blame dbx if your not smart, you should not be running sound anyway. if you have an ounce of brains this product is a no brainer and your pa will sound better than it ever has plus its only one rack space instead of taking up to 6 rack spaces
