On a scale on 1-10. I give the Denon a 7. Don't get me wrong, its a nice tool. My first major complaint is its parameter knob. it is used for too many things. It can get a little risky when you are in a hurry. You also can accidently hit the very same parameter knob if you are back cueing or mixing via the vinyl main/alpha modes. In addittion the numorous features are contolled by the same parameter button. Again it can get complicated when you are mixing on the fly. As far as quailty, my 1/4 inch panel connecters seems to have an electrical short in it with only 3 weeks of light use. The connectors never fit tightly to the female receptors, which could fall out with any light to medium movement. Moreover for all its worth the belt driven platter is ok! but for all of its great features and elaborate price Denon could have given us a direct drive platter. Maybe they plan to make the change in their next model. I also beg them to simplfy it a little more by not use the same buttons for so many functions and just add a direct drive platter system. We(DJ's) know how belts eventually give out possibly at the wrong time!

Very Unreliable. Constant media problems and software issues. A lot of disc errors displayed even with the most cleanest disc available. Bpm counter doesn't work properly, it's like having an extra thumb hanging off the side of your hand. It's useless. Same goes for the Auto cue function. It was supposed to cue up at the beginning of track finding the music. Sometimes tracks get scrambled into its memory and it starts to play the tracks on its own. Loading time is slow and updates helped the lag on it's hot starts a little. Play and cue buttons periodically get stuck in their functioning position. I totally regret paying this much for these players, due to most importantly their UNRELIABILITY. This model was not thoroughly tested, nor DJ approved.

    For the serious CD DJ

    By DJ Otento

Comments about Denon DN-S5000 Tabletop DJ CD Player:

This is way superior to the CDJ MKII's. Tons of features and many of the effects serve a doube purpose when combined with matrix mixing found on denon mixers (miror mix for example can be employed as an echo or a beat juggle effect). Amazing sampler, can play a samply and the main track simultaneously. Not as durable as the Pioneers in my opion but in every other way this is the top CD deck. The only reason it is not used in every club is that Pioneer has become the industry standard interface. I see denon decks way more than any other brand at raves in my area. They allow so much artistic expression to be integrated into your set, it brings CD DJing on par with turntables.

Take care of it, and it will take care of you.

Comments about Denon DN-S5000 Tabletop DJ CD Player:

Very impressive. Takes A LOT of getting used too. So many features. Most buttons have multiple functions. Though, in time, with a lot of practice, this player can prove to be one of the best in the market. I recommend that the owner of this product, babies it. It is a belt drive. Its unlikely to give you issues, but much abuse can hurt the belt.

Everything denon put on it is just so great and I love how you can get diffent slipmats and faceplates. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

    Best all around DJ decks

    By louis-Bftam

    from Pitt PA

Comments about Denon DN-S5000 Tabletop DJ CD Player:

These are the best CD decks out there. Much more features for the money than any of pioneers offerings. The interface will take some time to get used to but once you become proficient the creative possibilities are amazing. The scratch platter is not as good as the 3500's but the firmware for this model is much more mature. Alpha track is a cool feature but more or less crippled in its funtionality due to lack of a seperate pitch fader and no way to display both tracks BPM's simultaneously. The second outputs are however great because they also do double duty by outputing the sampler audio. I am disapointed in denons choice of RCA digital outs, I would have prefered spdif or preferable the option of both. These decks really shine when you pair them with a 4 chanel mixer. Dont think you need a top end 12 inch battle style 4 ch though, in most respects a 19 inch rack style mixer is a better for these decks.

    Best Quality for your Money!

    By DJ Teddy

Comments about Denon DN-S5000 Tabletop DJ CD Player:

I own two DN S5000. They rocks!! First They're cheaper than the CDJ 1000 and you can do much more. It Play mp3, alpha track (play a different track from the same cd), scratch mode and cd mode, Hot start, hot disc (that lets you take the cd out and still play it for 35 sec). The scratch sounds with very good quality. Denon is a reliable brand, I also own a DN 4000. And the best thing, you can also customize them. Make you own Slipmat like real turntables. Big up to DENON and keep making products like these.

It's an ok player at best. Lots of flaws, and you will need 2 to mix all night. Definitely not worth the price.

Is it really worth the price?

    By Dj Eddie

    from Richmond, Virginia

Comments about Denon DN-S5000 Tabletop DJ CD Player:

I recently purchased 2 DN-S5000 for my studio. I have read lots of reviews and seen lots of DJ's spin with these bad boys. My personal experience with them is that perhaps they are really not worth the investment, and here are my reasons: 1. I own a pair of Numark Axis 9 which have the same cd scratch as the Denon, and both have a very tight response, take away the active platter from the Denon and you have an Axis 9. The axis 9 has all of the features of the Denon except alpha track, and if you don't need that feature (which is really the only thing that makes it tick) then don't bother spending over 700 on the DN-S5000. In a nutshell, the DN-S5000 is a turntablist dream for CD's, but for the average DJ Joe, is either a flashy addition to his/her gear and not really worth the expense.

    EXCELLENT...except the belt.

    By Gene Jone

Comments about Denon DN-S5000 Tabletop DJ CD Player:

This product rocks! I've been true to vinyl for 7 years, but moved over to CDs in the last 3 because of this Denon. It's so awesome because it reads MP3s...150 tracks on one disc - Woohooo! A bit more expensive than the newer models, but worth the $$. DENON, has done a great job with this. The belt drive sucks, though. I've only used Technics Direct Drives in the past, so I'm not used to this. Platter is small and needs more pushing to get the down beat going (using the play button is better on tight mixes). If you're coming from direct drive, be patient, you'll get there.Oh, this unit is upgradable with software and hardware. A Denon rep told me, soon you may be able to swap out the CD drive to a DVD drive and play DVD-Audio or MP3s on DVD-R/RW. WHOA! 4.7Gig of MP3s. Now I'll be taking three discs to gigs and dupes of each for a total of... 6 discs.

Don't bother with any other CD deck out there. I've been at this for over 18 years. Trust me when I say these things rock. Just make sure if you test them in a store, that they have the latest software in them.
