I bought the DR-DRM4 mic set because I was tired of the old mix and match mic setup I've used for 30 years. Digital Reference was a new name to me, but I was willing to risk a hundred dollars. It was quite a surprise to open the box and find that rim-mounts for the smaller mics were included. They don't emphasize this in the advertising, but they should. The mount just clicks onto a rim and you screw the mic onto it- simple and secure. I tried them on my 5-piece custom-built KC Drumworks set, and on my 4-piece 1964 Ludwig set. The mics are much better than expected; but since I already have a kick mic that has become my signature sound, I dedicated the DR kick mic to floor toms. They are fine for playing out, but require careful EQ and gating to record with them. For any drummer with a hundred bucks burning a hole in the pocket, this is what to spend it on.

These mics are ok for just getting your feet wet. However I'd spen the same $$ and get Nady they have a much better frequency response. I had these mics for about 5 weeks then the cheap clips they came with started busting left and right just randomly. Save up for better mics, or get nady make sure to do some research!!!

Amazing-ness

I bought these mics thinking they would sound like drums through vocal mics. I confirmed my thought when I used them to record my drums in a friend garage.I soon realized the horrible acoustics of the garage. When I got my drums back into my room the mics worked perfectly. The bass drum mic certainly has a punch two it.

Clips break!

These mics are durable and sound great. But I have BROKEN 7 of the mic clips! They arecheap and WILL NOT last. I have been playing 32 years and my kit has only been moved 4 times since I bought them. You can be as gentle as you want... the clips are going to break!

Good Mics...Low Price

I bought these mics so we could record a Demo and I was THOROUGHLY impressed! Most drum mics are cardioid condensers so I was skeptical when I found out they were dynamic, but they worked great! If you're looking for a semi-decent mic for a REAL low price, Stick with these...They're good for home studio recording and small projects. Just make sure you use XLR cables all the time....we learned the hard way.

Broken clips and massive bleed

By ProducerGuyyy

from Texas

See all my reviews

I was looking for a bargain, and i found the dr-drm4 mic kit! these mics are great for toms, if you can rig up some way to reduce the bleed you get out of them. Any cymbal besides a closed high hat will often bleed in almost as loud as the drum your recording, no matter which way you point the mics. The Snare and Bass need alot of EQ (or Drumagog) to make them sound good. No matter how careful you are, THE CLIPS BREAK. Buy new ones with this kit. I wasn't surprised by all this, considering how much you pay for the mics. They are cheap and if your looking for decent quality for a low price, go with the dr-drm4 mic kit.

I Think They're Great Tom Mics

By Joe-.MVgR

from Oregon

I bought this pack 2 1/2 years ago, and they're fabulous for the price. Agreed about the clips though, I use d-vice clamps , and they are fairly good. As far as configurations, I use an SM57 on the snare, the 3 DR tom mics for toms, and as someone else noted, the kick mic is good for floor tom, but you may want a d112 for kick. Anyways, if I could only say 1 thing about these mics "replace the clips with something decent (and make sure their tightened as to prevent low rumbles), and you've got nice mics for achieving that great drum sound...

I love these mics......

By Michael Harvey II

I bought the four pack and I love them. I used them on a Tama Drum set in my studio and the toms came out beautiful and warm and the bass drum had just enough punch to it so, for the money these mics are the best buy. You should buy them before everyone else realizes that these mics are great and then they try to raise the price of these mics.

Pretty Good

By Dylan S.

from Undisclosed

See all my reviews

I'm not going to say that these mics are the worst I've ever used, but they're definitely not the best. They sound good live and fairly well in recording. I havent broken a mic clip yet but I'm waiting, they seem flimsy. Tom mics are good for toms, but not wonderful for snare, kind of muddy. BUT! for the price of these babies there something that any amateur engineer could use. They were my first ones but I have moved up to 57's and an audix d6 on kick and sennheiser tom mics. Overall, great cheap mics.
