I use it with my Sony Vaio notebook for all-purpose recording tasks with CoolEdit Pro. It's dead-quiet, has superb audio quality, and works every time, just the way it should. There are no level controls on this thing, so you'll need a mixer for easy control. The build quality feels a bit on the cheezy side, but it's inexpensive! Unless you're planning on seriously abusing this thing, it should be ok. And it sounds terrific. There is some latency if you monitor through the audio outs on the Edirol. You can take care of that by monitoring through the headphone jack on the notebook. Bingo... No latency.I did have to download a driver for it, though. A great and dirt cheap way to get good quality audio in and out of your notebook. I dig it.

This could be a great product since the sound quality it outputs is cool. The problem is that the manufacturer mistakenly (and unwaveringly) believes that drivers for this device exist on the Windows installation disk, which they of course do not. This necessitated the purchase of a separate generic "USB audio device" driver, effectively doubling the cost of the purchase for this particular gadget.

All I can say is, Wow!. It solves the hard drive/pressure sensitive mouse laptop problem. Sound quality is primo. I can record, play, and hear nothing but music. Fabulous. When you run a music business off of a hard drive. it is absolutely necessary.

Didn't Work For Me

This seemed like a great product but:Latency was over 20ms, headphone output was low and severely distorted at "higher" volume levels and there was bleed thru between channels. I returned it.

The product does the job, I've been using it for about 5-6 months and have not had a problem. It's straight forward and easy to use.

A Cheap but Adequate Solution

By perchik1

from Lexington, MA

I bought this product several months ago when I needed a replacement for my M-Audio interface. The first thing that you obviously need to realize (which I didn't) is that it only has RCA I/O, so if your instrument or other input isn't using RCA cables, you need to buy an adapter or it won't be much help. I run 1/4" cables from my keyboard into a small M-Audio mixer, and RCA cables from that into this product, which then plugs into my computer. It's a somewhat convoluted setup but it gets the job done. The sound is fine, for the price. If you have the right setup to be able to use it and you don't need crystal clean background, this is a fine product to buy.

Not Good

By Anonymous

Had this for about a week, and then returned it. I gave it a 5 because I was not sure whether the device was causing a terrible buzz/bleeping noise, or if it was the mixer/microphones. I checked and Edirol came out with a newer model of this, so I wouldn't recommend buying this one anyways even if you have top of the line mixers and mics.

Simply works

By That Tuba Guy

from Pittsburg, KS

I bought initially to import audio from record and tapes into my computer to make CDs. Now I use it to record live music. I simply go from my mixer directly through this into my recording software (cakewalk). It works great. I get much better quality then when I used a stand alone multi-track recorder. This is not a product with a ton of features.. Just a simple device to get sound into your computer. At this simple task it is great.

The best

By Al Pal

If you want a way to get your band's music into a computer, this product is for you. My band purchased it not to long ago and we simply plugged and played. The RCA outs on your mixer run directly into it and into your computers USB port and into your recording software. SWEEEET!

Not Bad

By Steve Chavez

from Westlake Village, CA

My main thing is simply having something that would allow me to do some basic recording and mixing on the road. This device is small and durable. I'm in the mac side of the spectrum and edirol has been great for our platform. (Unlike m-audio with its poor drivers on os x) I was able to simply plug it in and use it. I wish I could say the same for my MobilePreUSB...
