Comments about Electro-Voice SB122 12" 400W Passive Subwoofer:
Just bought one of these from MF to use as kick drum monitor along with a Yamaha S115V. I bascially mix my drums and run one direct line to an EV Q66 amp bridged into this sub using the sub's 160hz internal x-over the another to the board which powers my Yamaha S115V stage monitor mix. Let me tell you, at 35lbs there is nothing made that can touch this sub. It is power hungry and would suggest an amp of at least 600 watts to power it (Q66 amp is a match made in heaven coupled with ND868 kick drum mic) I have used this setup twice now, once in a small to med size club and once in a larger venue and both times I had people asking me where the 2 18 cabinets were..I pointed to the SB122 and said one of these baby! The SB121 EV produced a few years back pales in comparison to this jewel. Now the bass player wants to tap into my onstage mix and use this sub as well. Looks like I will buy another one and run them in parallel at 1700 watts. For a drummer this is the best possible kick drum monitoring setup made. I tried the Bass Shaker thing and it was ok but this sub is the shin dizzle. Reproduces my 24" kick drum perfectly and mates well with the EV ND868 mic. If you are a drummer this is not to be passed up!

I was SO impressed, I bought two of them and sold my 18" subs.

How much easier could it be? 35 pounds each,,carry one in each hand and sling them around with ease. Pole mounts on top for the smaller mains or stand alone as your subs. 400 watts RMS won't fill an arena but will do fine for the smaller to med size gigs with a LOT less wear and tear on your back. They'd also do well as a compact bas rig setup. 2 on each side of a band should thump just fine. Crossed over a little high for me (160hz) but if you have an external x-over, set them up for around 100hz or so.

I own four of these that I drive with a Crown XTI4000. I was working outdoors at a fair ground a ocuple of years ago and people kept coming up to me asking where teh array of 18" subs was. They couldn't believe that four of these little subs were cranking out that much bass. I also love that you can easily carry one in each hand.
Comments about Electro-Voice SB122 12" 400W Passive Subwoofer:
Every working band would love to have massive earth shaking bass cabs. But after a years of hauling around a pair of old-school 2x18 cabs and running them on 25% volume, we downsized and couldn't be happier. For just about any local venue a set of these adds plenty of kick and clean bass. I also use them for acoustic shows and it makes all the difference in the world. For the band we bi-amp them with a set of SX-500+ EV mains, but have recently started just using a set of 15" EV Eliminator Monitors for mains instead, saving the big speakers and subs for outdoor/large venue shows. It sounds small, but we are a loud rock band, (probably too loud sometimes) and for your average club or bar show this setup gives us plenty of volume and headroom. We use a QSC PLX 3402 (900+ watts/channel at 4 ohms)with one side for mains with the 100hz high pass filter on so most of the the bass and kick aren't going through the mains keeping them crystal clear for vox, and the other channel for the subs with full range... using the built in crossovers in the SB122s. Very simple to move and set up and it sounds great. And the best part is it all easily fits in the back of my Pathfinder, with room for a Marshall half-stack and guitars to spare. And when the show's over you can easily grab a SB122 like a carry-on bag in each hand and walk out the door. You can't go wrong with EV. If you like mid-rangy mud in lead-lined cabinets get JBL.. (Peavey with a price tag if you ask me.) Otherwise, go electro. You won't regret it.
