OVERVIEW

Lightweight enclosure with top quality EV components.

The Sx250 reflects all of the chief design considerations that initially inspired the Sx systems: flexibility, portability, and high acoustic output.

The Sx250 is constructed with 18mm plywood finished in a sprayed on polyurethane finish that resists nicks and dings, is naturally weather resistant and can be easily painted. Sx250s components are protected by a 16-gauge steel grille with cloth backing for a polished, professional look.

The Sx250 uses components that have toured the world in EV concert systems including the D2010A 1.25-inch diameter pure titanium compression driver and the DL15BFH 15-inch cast frame woofer. The Sx250 uses a constant directivity horn with EVs patented TimePathTM phase plug for wide dispersion, yet with better control and projection than 90 degree horns.

The Sx250 also has EVs Ring-Mode Decoupling (RMDTM) technology for pure, clean vocals and detailed mids over a wide range of SPLs. The Sx250s sound is very accurate with full-range fidelity that has high intelligibility for either voice or music reproduction.

    Comments about Electro-Voice SX250 2-Way Full-range 15" Passive Speaker:

Bought 11 of these. Installed (2) at a local theater which seats 150. The other (9) I bought to use as mains and monitors with a (5) pc band. While I haven't had a chance to use them with the band yet; I have used them at (3) events at the theater and I have no complaints. Crisp clear vocals, overheads and guitars but, it lacks a little life on the low end. A Sub is a must with these. Paired with a QSC PLX 3602. Just for kicks I A/B'd them with the Yorkville U15s I have. As far as the typical listening audience I really wouldn't have a problem setting up the EVs over the Yorkvilles because of the weight difference. Of course for the typical bar setting I can use the Yorkvilles without a sub if I get lazy. These EVs need subs to make up some low end.

I picked up a pair for smaller mains and floor monitor use. High output for the size and clean, smooth sound. Solid box. Great EV product!

        Comments about Electro-Voice SX250 2-Way Full-range 15" Passive Speaker:

I saw the Electro-Voice SX250 used as Floor Monitors by a Professional Sound Company at an outdoor Music Festival in 2014. I worked the stage crew for the festival. The SX250 sounded very clear and were very solid. I was looking for a compact 15" Floor Monitor for my own use and I ordered 3 of these from Musicians Friend. These sound very clear and are great for all around use. The Vocals were cutting and clear. I compared these side-by-side to the older JBL MRX515 and MRX512M (which I own) and these were much clearer for the Vocals. For the price of a new SX250 they are a far better choice over a used JBL MRX515 or MRX512M Speakers.

          Comments about Electro-Voice SX250 2-Way Full-range 15" Passive Speaker:

I purchased 5 of these for monitors 10+ years ago. They work great. I just purchased 5 more but the weight of the new speakers is higher than my previous 5. But the power also went up from 250 W continuous to 350 W continuous. Even the low wattage, these speakers get extremely loud. The one issue I've had is the tweeters have protection circuitry that is silver plated. When it tarnishes, the horn stops working so I have to pull the crossover out once a year to clean the protection element off.

              Comments about Electro-Voice SX250 2-Way Full-range 15" Passive Speaker:

I used these for mains (with small subs) for five days on the second stage of a major indie music festival. Many compliments on their sound. They are loud and clear - handled everything with no issues. The acts ranged from solo acoustic guitar to full bands. These are configured more as a monitor - and I'm sure they would be great at that - but with one handle on the end, they are cumbersome to get up on stands. EV quality - well made. Yes, they are officially 'discontinued', so the price is great!!
