picked up a pair of these alp 5 monitors and boy i had the krk 5s before these events blew them out of the water. These Event's have a pretty decent low end, not as much as the krk's but the mids and highs destroyed the krk's by a mile. MY suggestion is a set of these with a sub for a small to mid size room would be the hook up. Great for mixing these speakers, great playback of music. You would be suprise what ur missing when you dont have a pair of these. Im telling you i have had alot of speakers like m audio, samson resolvs and tweeter version, krk, and these come out on top of quality. There the way to go.
I find the Event ALP5's have a very narrow sweet spot. If you waiver from it, the high end disappears. I'm on my second pair, as the first pair buzzed. My second pair buzzes, but not as loud. Yes, I've made sure it's not my cables, as they buzz even without cables inserted. They are plugged into an expensive AC line conditioner as well. They still buzz. The overall sound is pretty good, as long as you sit in the sweet spot.
I got to play with these monitors in a local music store. my first thought was "five inch, little lossy in the low freqs." which is probably what everyone will think until they FEEL these little speakers. The ported speaker cabs really pound out the low tunes which is good, because even the bx5a and the behringer truths don't thump has hard as these events. The highs are sweet, not to shrill, not to dull. Just enough to keep the cymbals singin right. The disc I was using had a bunch of rnb on it, the midrange guitars and other instruments sounded just as they should, and all came through really well. The sales rep wasn't concerned that I had them cranked either.
