Boasting many of the same features as their big brother, the Studio Precision 8s, these high-end monitors utilize a 6.5", mineral-impregnated polypropylene cone low-frequency driver. The neodymium magnet gives the driver exceptionally low distortion characteristics, makes it stronger, and provides a greater level of output efficiency than a traditional woofer. The LF driver is paired with a 1" soft dome, high-frequency radiator that expands the stereo soundstage compared to previous models. The HF driver also has a neodymium magnet and produces a broad, flat radiation pattern that doesn't require corrective equalization. This results in a large sweet spot, so the mix position can be very personal, or shared with a larger group.
The dual, large-diameter, linear-flow bass ports make for a deeper and more accurate low frequency response than similar-sized systems.
The powerful amplifier delivers 280W per speaker(200W LF driver/80W HF driver). The custom-designed circuitry features low-noise semiconductors and audio-grade film capacitors for enhanced dynamic range as well as lower noise and distortion. The unit also includes continuously variable low- and high-frequency trim controls, a continuously variable input sensitivity control, and a switchable 80Hz high pass filter. Balanced XLR and 1/4" inputs are provided for easy connection.

I A/B precision 6 and the 8 and the 8's were wonderful, but too powerful for close reference monitoring. I would buy the 8's as mid field monitors thats where they seems to shine. The precision 6's were just what the doctor ordered for close monitoring. The mixes I've gottin on this monitors have been amazingly accurate. The powerful amps have enough head room and clarity to mix any kind of music from subtle to hi energy electric or rock. You can't go wrong with these monitors.
Alright, I just got back from trying a ton of powered monitors. The list of those tried: Alesis Monitor 1 MKIIs, Mackie 824s and 624s, Event SP8s, SP6s, TR8s, TR6s, Fostex PM1s and PM0.5s, KRK Rockit 5s, 6s and 8s and V8s, M-Audio BX8s, and a bunch of Samsons. My thoughts on the SP6s: out of the group, these were very good. The bass was tight and clear (but not good for very low frequencies - you need an 8" to get that), and the highs were great - clear, crisp, but not wearing. Only thing I noticed was that a vocal didn't sound quite natural - there was some coloration that I didn't like in the upper range of a male voice. My suggestion? Go up to the SP8s. For a litle more, you get amazing bass (even low), great clarity, and very natural vocals. This was my favorite speaker for the day.
I just recently tried a pair of the 8" and it has no joke made the BIGGEST difference in the quality of my mixes than any other aspect of my studio. I HIGHLY reccomend these to anyone wanting their mixes to sound great rather than just ok.
I've mixed an album with them in a world class studio and they translate fine!
