OVERVIEW

Proven design brilliance combined with a new high-efficiency amplifier.

The Event TR6 Tuned Reference 6 Active Monitors are perfect for the small sound studio. 6.5" mineral-filled polypropylene cone LF drivers with 1-1/2" voice coils and damped rubber surrounds, 1" ferrofluid-cooled natural silk-dome tweeters, and 2.6kHz active 4th-order crossovers provide peerless monitoring accuracy for amazingly low outlay. 106dB output is way higher than speakers with comparable wattage, 80W biamplified—50W low frequency and 30W high frequency. Tuned to provide flat frequency response for a true sonic reference when mixing.

First, the Event TR6 studio monitors sound terrific.

However, If you are a pro, your studio monitors should be ruthlessly accurate, reveal every flaw, and make a bad recording sound even worse (so you can fix it!)

So; the TR6 monitors are not ideal for mixing because they sound "too good," they add sweetness to the mix; which your customers may not hear.

However, once the mix is done, I love to listen back to the mix on the my TR6 monitors. They will make a bad mix or a lossy mp3 sound better (which I don't want for mixing); but once you have done the best you can do with a mix; or to listen to already-recorded music; the TR6's will make it sound wonderful.

If you can get your hands on a working pair at a reasonable price, highly recommended. They are relatively small and light for good audio monitors (but too big for most desktops). They don't have a lot of adjustments (one assumes you adjust on your mixing console.) These older TR6 monitors are not to be confused with the newer models.

Note that there is a fairly sharp cut-off in the bass from the 6.5" woofer; bass sounds excellent (clean and balanced) down to about 50 hz; below that, the bass is just gone. So, the TR6's are fine for mixing most audio sources; but you'll want to use larger monitors for mixing "thus spake zarathustra."

These monitors sound good, but after a little less than a year, I had both of them in for warranty service due to bad capacitors (according to them) - this caused lots of distortion and loss of volume. They replaced the amp circuit in both of them. Now, 1 year later, one of the monitors has died in the same fashion.I'll have to try to fix this myself because I can't afford to buy a new amp from them and have it die after one year.

      For the price...

Excellent sounding monitors. Clean and almost flat, but you will get a little coloration. Not too strong of a bass signal, but accurate especially when used with a sub.

      Great entry level

      By bit-head

      from Atlanta

Bought these for a small project studio. One in the box was DOA (but this was the fault of the retailer). Excellent bass response, slight coloration above 6k. Good response on bass frequency. Initially got low level hiss. Rememdied by using premium TRS cable, heavily shielded power cables (SUN microsystems cables work beautifully!)and adding a power iso/conditioner unit. No more hiss! Great for home/small studio, but don't quite measure up in larger, professionally treated studio. Again, great for the beginner or amateur.

      Very good value!

      By Devastation

      from Calgary, Alberta, Canada

I have ownd a pair of TR6's for several years. I have done many projects with them and never had any problems. They are not as clear as some Tannoys that I have used (but who has $20,000 to fork over for monitors in a home studio!!??!). But if you need a good reference monitor for a decent price these will do the job. I have not had any problems with them and never blown them up so I don't know about service. The TR6's get used for around 12 hours a day for the last 3 years.

I am a Music Arranger and I have a small set-up were I do Most of my sequencing, arrangements, Mixes and all I can Say is Awesome Monitors, just a Little Coloration. Almost Flat and good Low Ends (for the size). I've heard more expensive monitors that don't sond as clean as the TR-6. Great Value and good for even professional use.

These monitors are awesome! I was looking into a roland pair, and thanks to some advice from some helpful guitar center employees, I bought these ones instead. They are being used in a small project studio, and exceed all expectations. The sound is unbelievable! Definitely would be suggested by me!

      Bad tweeters

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

I've owned two pair of these monitors. The first pair lasted a day before one of the tweeters started making a buzzing/hissing noise. I excahnged that pair for another and after about a month one of the tweeters on the new pair had the same problem. When they worked, they sounded great, but the build quality is not good.

      Not really tuned

      By paradice

      from Colorado

These monitors have always made a low-end noise even at low levels. Sounds like air turbulance in the enclosure, the ports are not tuned at all! DO NOT BUY if you are looking for a true reference monitor

      Sounds better on paper...

      By erolson

      from Arlington, VA

I based my decision to buy the TR-6s on the rave reviews of the TR-5s and the TR-6s specs. Unfortunately, reality did not meet my expectations. Maybe it is my environment, may it is just a bad pair, but I had to return these. The microphonics are just horrible. Even in a room without a computer or any obvious sources of RF interference in sight, these speakers hummed and buzzed. Needless to say, they were a big disappointment.
