Active 2-way near field professional monitoring loudspeaker.
The Focal Alpha 50 is a versatile studio monitor with quality components and design. It serves beautifully in a variety of capacities, performing just as well with instrumental music as with electronic music. This model comprises a 5" (13cm) woofer/ midrange speaker with a Polyglass cone loaded in a large laminar port associated witha 35W amplifier and a 1" (25mm) aluminum inverted dome tweeter (20W amplifier). Alpha 50 has a frequency response of 45Hz to 22kHz (+/- 3dB).
The Polyglass cone makes for a rigid response that won't be overwhelmed by prominent bass signals such as those present in contemporary electronic dance music, and yet, it inhibits unwanted, messy artifacts sometimes associated with those types of signals. These speakers are very smooth and a joy to listenb to and mix on. Pleasanrness of sound can sometimes have as an adjunct a tendency to bury distortion and harsh, overly present signals, but that is not the case with the Focal Alpha 50. Despite the overall warmth and richness of the speakers, they provide all of the detail, for good or ill, that you need in critical listening.
They are excellent for cinema, podcast EQ and cleanup, and any other imaginable audio application as well as their most common use, instrumental or electronic music. If you are seeking a low-profile pair of high quality monitors, consider the Focal Alpha 50.

Comments about FOCAL Alpha 50 Studio Monitor (Single):
At this price range, nothing else I've ever used even come close to these bad boys! Some people are skeptical about buying 5 in monitors, but let me tell you, these things have amazing bass response for 5s!!! The overall response is very clean and flat, which is exactly what I was looking for in monitors for my home studio. If you are using a smaller room with little/no treatment, I'd advise against buying any monitors larger than these 5s, because as I said, the bass response is perfectly suited for this scenario.
Some people believe in "breaking-in" new monitors, but even right out of the box (paired with great cables and a great interface), these things sounded magical. I'll agree that a monitor's response improves over-time and use, and I've had them for almost a year now, I still think they're just perfect. The aluminum dome tweeters are very sleek looking, and result in a very clear top-end that'll reveal any frequency build-up in your mixes. The dust-cap of the woofer is very hard and durable, which is nice because you don't have to worry about clients or anyone pushing them in -.-
Saved the best quality for last: REFERENCING! Every single one of the mixes I've done on these things (around 25-30 since I got them) has translated amazingly across all mediums. This saves time & money on revisions for clients that listen to the mixes on their early gen iphone and terrible car speakers.
