8 in/6 out FireWire interface featuring 2 high-quality, award-winning Focusrite preamps.

The Focusrite Saffire PRO 14 is an 8 in/6 out FireWire audio interface designed for the modern home studio. Two award-winning preamps inheriting the Focusrite legacy dating back to the days of Mr. Rupert Neve provide Focusrite's legendary sonic performance. Digital and analog I/O combine with Focusrite's established MixControl software to deliver seamless integration, excellent routing flexibility, and rock-solid driver stability.

Along with the 2 high-quality mic preamps, 2 additional analog inputs, 4 analog outputs, S/PDIF, and MIDI open the door to true multitrack recording. Two Hi-Z instrument inputs let you plug straight in without the need to buy additional DI boxes, and two virtual Loopback inputs are also available for routing digital audio between software applications-ideal for capturing online audio.

Included with the PRO 14 is Saffire MixControl, an 18 x 6 DSP mixer. Offering a level of flexibility that is unparalleled at this price point, MixControl software enables you to create six separate mixes without latency. Route any combination of input signals and sequencer outputs to any of Saffire PRO 14's outputs. Intuitive one-click configurations help you track, monitor and mix as quickly as possible.

Focusrite's established Xcite+ bundle is also included. The bundle features Ableton Live Lite (for all your production, performance and compositional needs), Novation's Bass Station soft synth and over 1 gig of royalty-free samples from Loopmasters.

With Saffire PRO 14, sonic integrity is never compromised. The two Focusrite preamps ensure low noise and distortion, whilst quality digital conversion and JetPLL jitter elimination technology ensure pristine quality as your audio flows between the analogue and digital domains. Combined with the very latest in FireWire interfacing technology, excellent routing flexibility and rock-solid driver stability, the Saffire PRO 14 is the heart of the modern home studio.

Focusrite's popular Saffire Firewire interfaces are fully compatible with Thunderbolt ports on Mac computers. All you need to connect the two is a FireWire 400-800 cable (included with all new Saffire interfaces later this year) and the Thunderbolt to FireWire 800 adapter (not included). Simply plug this into the Thunderbolt port on your computer and connect the FireWire interface - it's as simple as that. Saffire interfaces are 100% compatible with Thunderbolt using this adaptor.

All Saffire FireWire and Thunderbolt-compatible interfaces now come bundled with Focusrite's Midnight plug-in suite for free upon registration. The Midnight plug-in suite models two of the most iconic Focusrite modules of all time - the ISA110 equaliser and ISA130 compressor - and gives them elegant, functional on-screen front panels for easy control.

Note: Includes the Focusrite Red 2 and Red 3 Plug-In Suite (AAX/AU/VST) upon registration of interface. Accurately modeled on the classic Red 2 EQ and Red 3 Compressor, the Red plug-ins let you exploit the sound of the hardware originals, conveniently from within Pro Tools (10 and above) and other audio software.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Audio interface:

My new Focusrite Saffire 14 emits a constant high-pitched whine. When I reported the problem to Musician's Friend I was told that I had to contact Focusrite. When I contacted Focusrite I was told that I had to contact Musician's Friend. When I, again, contacted Musician's Friend I was asked to file a report with them so that they could "investigate" the issue. It has now been several months and I have heard nothing from Musician's Friend. And my new Focusrite Saffire 14 is still emitting a high-pitched whine and is useless.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Audio interface:

I use a Windows 7 PC with a quad processor. I got this because I didn't want to occupy another USB port on my PC, so the firewire was the selling point. I had been using the Tascam US-800, but the preamps supposedly aren't' as good and it has its issues. I don't need multiple inputs in my home studio. Everything installed very easily with the Pro-14. The problem was that during recording/playing in my DAW, or during just listening to audio with VLC or WMP, there would be an intermittent fuzzy/static sound that would occur every few seconds. This sound also wound up on my recordings. I did some research and couldn't find much, except a couple of people describing a similar sound that was caused by the firewire port being "overloaded". I emailed Focusrite, and after 24 hours, they had not replied so I called. I spoke to someone who acted like they had never heard of this problem before. He emailed me two diagnostic apps and asked me to run them and get back to him. One to check if my firewire port was was. And another to check my system latency. I sent the results of these tests back to them with some additional info that they had requested. I waited 48 hours and received no response. I tried to call but could only get voicemail. So, after three full days of getting absolutely nothing accomplished through Focusrite, I returned the item. After that customer support experience, I will never buy another Focusrite product again. I just ordered the Roland UA-55 which is connected via USB. Figure I'd better stay away from firewire. Hope that works out better for me.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Audio interface:

I got this interface thinking that I could use my new MacBook Pro to its full capacity due to FireWire and brand new equipment, etc.

Turns out this product has the exact same problems that other reviewers have mentioned: drop-outs, unreliable connection, and an excrutiating white noise coming through the monitors.
The noise is LITERALLY the sound of the driver processing data, and changes pitch when buffer sizes are reduced or lengthened.

I would wait for Focusrite to respond to my inquiries, or to see if they release some driver fixes, but I'm not even willing to take that gamble that they will do that in the time I have to return the product.

    Good starter interface

Comments about Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Audio interface:

Overall this device keeps me intrested in the Focusrite name. Now that i know what i know about recording and what i need, the Pro 40 and Liquid Saffire 56 look very intresting to me. I will point out I am using a Macbook Pro with 10.6.8. Haven't had any "driver" related nightmares. I also am using Logic Express as the DAW. I see these are compatible with the standard Pro Tools 9 and i feel like if Apple is going to screw its "pro" apps like they did with Final Cut, i may switch to pro tools. I specifically chose focusrite because i've heard less problems than with the M-Audio and M-Box solutions.
I think for the price its a very good high quality inteface. Haven't really had any problems with the device itself. Its got a good enough amount of I/O for recording solo projects and demo material. I wish it had another firewire port for daisy chaining.
Device is made out a sturdy construction, little plastic used.
Good value for name and features.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Audio interface:

Had a horrible time with this box, first of all, I have a new computer system with core i7 2600k so there was no issue on my end. I hooked this box up and had trouble with just playing a song back through ableton live 8, the sound would cut in and out, also had horrible sounds comming through my monitors when nothing was playing... seemed to be excessive so I did a little research and read that sometimes you have to use the firewire legacy driver built into windows, so that did take care of that problem, exept the horrible noise comming from the box when nothing was being played. Then the midi in on the box just stopped receiving signal period... totally dead. Maybe I had a defective unit... I was excited about comming to the focusrite brand, seemed like a good name in the music business. I was updating from a yamaha GO46 which is no longer made or supported, I wanted something compatible with windows 7, and to have problems with the windows driver right out of the box disappointed me. Maybe you will have better luck, Sound was great during recording and playback. with my core i7 i was able to put the buffer at 64samples and only have 5.31 ms of latency with no drop out or problems whatsoever. Just my 2 cents, returned unit, going to try the M-Audio profire 610 hopefully with better luck.
This looked like the box for me, had the firewire interface, as many ins and outs as i needed, plus midi....
Built well, all metal box, knobs felt nice and tight
Seems to be priced about right.

    Saffire PRO 14

Comments about Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Audio interface:

I'm pretty happy with this interface. I chose it over the 24, because, well, they both only have two preamps, so what am I really paying the extra money for, the LEDs? Now, I think I should have paid the extra money just for the LEDs. Anyway. Its not really an '8-in, 6-out' interface as it is described. It has two mic/instrument inputs, two line inputs, and a digital optical (stereo?) input, I have no idea what it is useful for but maybe I will learn. The other two 'inputs' are virtual. They don't really exist as inputs on the device. But they are useful for bouncing audio from one program to another. The included software and loops are actually pretty expansive. The softsynth didn't excite me but the MixControl software is great, you have a lot more control over routing audio than with other similar priced usb interfaces I've used. There are no controls for monitoring (other than volume and headphone volume) on the unit, it is controlled through the saffire mixcontrol program, which I should add, has been only useful and not CPU hungry or gotten in the way of my work, it does exactly what it is supposed to do.I've been using an outboard preamp instead of the focusrite pres, I can't even comment on them yet.

Comments about Focusrite Saffire Pro 14 Audio interface:

The Sapphire Pro Audio Interface solved a few of my input/output latency issues. Make sure to go here and read:

This article helped me buy the correct firewire PCI-e card. Once I installed that, everything was working beautifully. Having a connection for USB 3.0 or eSATA would be nice as transfer rates are very high.

I have found zero latency which was not the case for several other similar products I own.

I will absolutely recommend the Sapphire PRO 14.

I was unable to determine a method to connect a firewire to a Laptop with windows 7 so I sent the item back for a refund and purchased another model that has a USB connectivity feature. I cannot comment on it's function as I never even plugged it in.
