The precision power and clear, pure reproduction needed for pro-level productions.

Fostex employs the latest cone material technology to obtain extremely pure music reproduction with the PM-2 MKII Active near field studio monitors. Biamplification provides 120W to the 8-3/4" LF drivers and 120W to the extremely responsive 1" soft dome HF tweeters with independent gain control. With the MKII upgrades, the tweeters are now a one-piece assembly with a redesigned damper to eliminate interference for clearer high-frequency response, and the cabinets sport a high-gloss piano black finish on their front. The compact cabinets are specially designed to eliminate unwanted resonance and incorporate a long bass port for deep and accurate low-frequency response.

The carefully tuned enclosures and circuitry produce great full range performance with exceptional neutrality even at high SPLs. The LF driver cones are made from cut-and-milled aromatic polyamide fibers that are simultaneously resin-impregnated to achieve high rigidity and optimum damping. The cones also have an olefin film thermally adhered to their surface to control frequency response and to ensure long-term reliability. Resin-impregnated cellulose dust caps cover voice coils made of high-purity copper wire for achieve extremely low distortion. Each soft dome tweeter uses UFLC (Poly Urethane Film Laminated Cloth) technology for lightweight and quality performance. Each amplifier is precisely calibrated to match the performance capability of its driver.

        Superb Monitors

Comments about Fostex PM-2 MKII 8" Active Nearfield Studio Monitors - Pair:

This is the second pair of these I have purchased for my SSL-4040G equipped studio. Really outstanding monitors and untouchable sound quality for the price. Getting better soundstage, detail resolution, and flatter response will cost you a LOT more money. The only monitors I have heard below $1500 that sound better than these are the DynAudio BM6A's and they are more than three times the price. Many people are not aware of Fostex's reputation as a speaker driver manufacturer. They have been an oem supplier to many high-end speaker brands since the 70's and their experience shows with these monitors.

        Solid monitor - quite satisfied

Comments about Fostex PM-2 MKII 8" Active Nearfield Studio Monitors - Pair:

Sounds like to guy who had these in the review below got a badly shipped pair or something, as the pair I have hasn't broken, nor did it show up with any construction issues... These monitors sounds really good and for the money there really isn't a better monitor that I've heard (and I've shopped). Fostex may not be a super high end name, but the bi amped design and flat sound really let me know what I've recorded.

Comments about Fostex PM-2 MKII 8" Active Nearfield Studio Monitors - Pair:

Ok.. so I have had REALLY bad luck with these. But this is a review section and the purpose is an honest review so here goes.I purchased two of these...1. Because of the price.2. I had Fostex gear in the 80s3. Because I read that 8" monitors are way better than 5" monitors. One right out of the box had a blown speaker (or what I assume is a blow speaker do to speaker rattle) and the other lasted about 1 week before the tweeter just vanished (stopped alltogether).1 failure is hard to deal with, two is unacceptable. And then I remembered my 8 track cheap tape recorder that I purchased in the 80s. It was all I could afford at the time. Did the job poorly, but it was all I could afford....Now I can afford a little more - and these got replaced with Mackies. P.S. - I love my Mackie monitors... I will never by Fostex again. That was too much.
