Fostex employed the latest cone material technology to obtain extremely pure music reproduction in their PM0.5 Powered Monitor Pair.
The attractive biamped cab provides 40W to the 5" LF driver and 30W to the extremely responsive .75" soft-dome tweeter. The Fostex PM.05 Cone is made of resin-impregnated aromatic polyamide fibers for high rigidity and optimum damping. Thermally adhered Olefin film controls frequency response and adds durability. Low distortion comes from high-purity copper wire in the coil. 40Hz to 22kHz frequency response. Perfect for home studios.

I have owned these about a year and a half. Sound quility is Great! I use them in my home studio. If not for having to replace a dome tweeter two months ago, I would have rated them a 10. Not sure why, but the dome tweeter was working fine one day, and not at all the next. Even with that, it didn't cost much to replace it ordering it direct from Fostex. Overall, for the price, or any price, I would replace them if I had to. No disappointment here, even with the failed tweeter.
I bought a pair of these today and was blown away by the quality for the price. I can't imagine anyone would have regrets about buying these, and if you have the extra cash, you can always go for the larger PM-1's, which are even better! I bought 0.5's because I needed something that I could take to different studios with me and (for the money) you just can't go wrong! Excellent!
Super clean, smooth, accurate, detailed and just a joy to work with. You can spend days comparing and listening but unless you want to spend $800+ you wont find anything to blow these away. They are at the top of thier field. Nice safe investment that will not dissapoint you or lie to you in the mix. What you hear is what you will get in the finshed work.
I've had minefor two years now, and have found the mids and upper detail to be reliably good. Also the stereo field is well represented and pretty articulate. Pretty true to the end result of a mix, I think. I'm not sure about the bass response- you have to watch that- but there's always something to comp for!A high note is that I don't get 'fatigued' from sitting with them for an extended period- they are pleasant to listen to. I don't know if this is a good thing! It might be that a 'ruder' presentation of what's going on could mean a closer focus on some details, but I seem to be getting regularly good results with these, so I'm happy.You won't find them at the top of the popular magazine reviews- but I suspect that magazines have their higher-end regular clients to promote. Also Fostex is not known for hyped advertising. They just make good gear and will sell it to you. Alright by me.I'd recommend these, as far as my experience will allow, to any small project studio on a budget.
Perfect monitors for 'near field' monitoring and desktop applications. If you're a dance/techno producer, you'll probably need BIGGER BASS, but for rock bands, acoustic, solo work, PERFECT choice, very clear, transparent, and mix-friendly. LOVE EM!!!
I have owned mine now for 2 years and must say I am very pleased. I have to agree that big low freq's are not tolerated very well, but if you pair them up with a sub you will be pleased. Very good product for the money!
Very good value for the money: distinct placement, natural response. But watch out for heavy low frequencies.
I bought these as a "shot in the dark" after I auditioned several monitors at a local store and also listened extensively to my friend's M-Audio BX8s (which was nice but bigger than what I could accomodate). When I got them I was pleasantly surpised that they did have a decent amount of bass for how small they are. However, one thing I have noticed is that the bass response is somewhat hyped - the response goes about 3dB up in the 100-200Hz range (which is pretty obvious from both listening and looking at the charts). The bass response just doesn't seem very "tight" - it has a lot of presence but it's difficult to make any sense of. However, compared to the other speakers in this price range and form factor - having somewhat hyped bass is much better than having no bass (In my opinion).
I own a pair of these powered monitors and they currently serve as the basis for reproducing mid/high frequency musical spectrum. I do admit they are a little shy in the bass department, but let's be reasonable about our expectations of the size drivers these are. I like the way they clearly express the subtle details of music. I run them along with a sub and the sound is wonderful. Terrific speakers at an amazing price, in my estimation.The signal processors I have are none other than Behringer (ultrafex, super x, dsp1024p), Peavey cel 2a, ART 351, dbx (200, 3bx, 1bx-ds, 224x(for recording), will be adding SNR-1), carver (c-9, c-1, m1.0t), soundtech ps800.
I went to a local retailer to listen to several powered monitors, ready to spend $800 (USD) on a pair. The definition of the PM0.5s is better than some costing twice as much. How could I not buy them right away? Maybe not enough power for a larger studio, but excellent for my project studio. Extremely pleased with this purchase.
