    Your own virtual drum studio!

The new Fxpansion BFD Premium Acoustic Drum Module Plug-In DVD software gives you your own virtual drum studio, with complete control of 7 real drumkits plus additional hats, snares, and cymbals. Every drum is recorded from 11 different mics positioned around the kit and room so you can mix your drums by blending the mic sources just like in a real studio. BFD's high quality drum sample library has an unparalleled degree of realism. For each type of drum type in each kit, there are a number of different styles of hits. Each of these is sampled at up to 46 velocity layers, resulting in drum parts of superior detail and expressiveness.

BFD was recorded in the drum room at a top Californian recording studio by professional engineer Steve Duda (NIN, Pitchshifter, A Perfect Circle) using over $50,000 worth of microphones from Neumann, Sennheiser, AKG, and others. The drums used range from the 1920s to 2002, and include both classics and rarities.

Not only useful as a sound source for your own drum programming, BFD also incorporates a comprehensive library of ready-to-use MIDI grooves with different styles, feels, and time signatures. The library features both programmed grooves and MIDI recordings of real drummers, including top UK session drummer Chris Dagley (Jamiroquai, Lalo Schifrin, Ella Fitzgerald, Eric Clapton, Chaka Khan).

The advanced, integrated Groove Librarian allows you to drag and drop the included grooves or import your own MIDI grooves. You can then trigger them in realtime from a keyboard or let the BFD freestyle with the auto-shuffle and auto-fill features.

BFD's humanization functions inject that elusive "soul" into your drum parts. The integrated swing controls make it easy to tighten or relax the vibe as much as required. On top of this, the sound of the groove can be further humanized through the controlled randomization of velocity and timing.

BFD is perfectly suited to rock, jazz, funk, country, hip-hop, blues, drum-n-bass. In fact, anything that may require a real drum kit, from auto-accompaniment, traditional songwriting and recording, to newer techniques such as creating original drum breaks.
    PC/Mac OSX
Note: Software comes on a DVD requiring an appropriate drive.

At first when I got home and put BFD on my computer I seriously thought i wasted my money. I was planning on using BFD to write beats like I already was using guitar pro 4 and another drum machine I had on my comp. To my surprise this software seemed like it was set up for MIDI controller use. Honesty I am not that great of a drummer let alone trying to lay down beats with a controller :(. Today is a different day and I found the BFD grooves(premade beats). Doesn't sound like much? Your wrong. Just browsing though I found all the beats I was going to use the software to create. Even though the beats are premade you can use any of the 7 kits to play them along with the extra snares, bass drums, and cymbals etc they throw. OMG, I feel so much better about buy this after figuring out that this is something I can use. It does take some time to figure out What is going on but is worth it when you do.

Originally, I planned on getting Artist Drums. The features in BFD, such as mic placement, really intrigued me. The demo samples sounded great, and the overall rating was promising so at the last minute I got this instead. The Good. The variety of kits is great. It is extremely easy to create, mix-and-match, and save custom kits or modify all aspects of existing kits. The Bad.The quality of the samples is good... but somewhat sterile. I primarily play drums via MIDI 'live' with as little programming as possible. Through ReWire and ProTools LE, there is a very noticable amount of latency. It's nearly impossible to get a good groove. It works reasonably well for point-and-click programming, but not live. The Ugly.I have several other drum sample kits. BFD was by far the most expensive... and by far the least used.Admittedly, I like bigger-than-life drums, which may have tainted my opinion somewhat. These would mix well into non-offensive soft rock or country, if that's your thang.

    Do Not Buy this product!

    By kc-_JR1i

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT if you don't have hundreds of hours to dedicate to tweaking. Not a single good kick, mapping is terrible. The sounds sound real but they sound like raggedy Old drums. They have a nice mpeg/website to look at but no one anywhere can give a practicle demo. Yet another product I had to buy to find out if it would work or not.

    The best I've heard/used

    By Chris-_aZ81

    from Southern California

BFD and its libraries are the best/most real software drums I have used. I like DKFH, but the sounds are pre-EQ'd and compressed so they sound good, but I don't like my drums pre done - I like to fit them to the track myself. I've recorded numerous drummers in Southern California at various studios and BFD brings that quality and flexibility to my computer - which is insane! Highly recommended.

    Amazing Sounds, RAM intensive

    By Kawititnow

    from Oklahoma City, OK

This program exceeded my expectations, but be sure that your computer has more than enough RAM. I have 1GB and I'm gonna have to upgrade to get more RAM. The only thing that I wish it had was more of a cymbal selection, the ones that come with it aren't bad, just wish there were more.

Buy Drumkit From Hell Superior instead

    By YeahimSTEVE

    from Orange County, CA

Do not buy this product. The only reason that anybody thinks this product is any good is because they haven't used Drumkit From Hell Superior. At first I liked this product, until I realized how impossible it is to trigger properly from an electronic drumkit. If you are going to play with your fingers on a keyboard, then maybe.. but for the same price, you can get Drumkit From Hell Superior or Custom and Vintage made by toontrack... Again, if you are a drummer, TRUST ME and do not buy this.. Go for the good stuff instead. Custom and Vintage is good, but I'd go with Drumkit From Hell Superior as my first choice.

    Got Memory!

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

You are going to need 2gb of ram minimum to use BFD to its fullist. Certain kits use more ram than others. If you plan on using other VSTi's or DXi's and you only have 1gb of ram, forget about it. I had one kit eating up 700mb's of ram in SX3 with no other VSTi's running. It sounds good, but if you don't have the resources your stuck. Get 4gb of ram and you will be set.
